Islanders have top pick... don't see them picking Hedman... so Tavares in a Islanders uniform... hrm.

Craig MacTavish fired...

Yay.

I'm hoping for some more changes (in the line-up) in the off-season... but this is still good news.

Tambellini also doesn't look so much like a puppet GM anymore! This is probably the best part of everything... the way he acted in his press conference... it really felt like some change was going to come to the Oilers.

EDIT: Jeez... I've been tuning in live for press conferences lately... and man... before every one of them, the reporters are always making fun of the Oilers.
EDIT 2: *facepalm* Waited half an hour for a press conference listening to the reporters' useless chat... then when it's time... the sound disappears...

And the Canucks grab a 1-0 series lead! biggrin.gif

St. Louis put on a hell of a fight though, will be expecting more of the same on Friday.

From what I watched last night (I couldn't watch everything since I was... suppose to be studying for my final today (I should be studying right now actually)).

Canucks vs Blues
Luongo made some big saves. I just don't see the Blues being able to beat Luongo consistently to take this series.

Penguins vs Flyers
Flyers were totally outplayed. If this type of play continues on then the Penguins could quickly advance to the second round.

Canes vs Devils
Devils mostly dominated the Hurricanes. It may be an easy road to the second round for the Devils.

Capitals vs Rangers
King Henrik stood on his head for that first period, while Theodore completely sucked at the other end. If Theodore can start making some solid saves then Capitals should be able to take this.

The Blues/Canucks game came on and I watched about halfway through before succumbing to sleep. I surprised my wife - she didn't even know I watched Hockey. (I don't normally, but how often do I get to watch the Canucks on the East Coast?)

Brilliant job by Luongo as always. Once the 'Nucks made that sick 5-on-3 penalty kill, you could feel that the game was about over! Still gonna be a tight series, no blowouts either way.

I was flat out pissed that we lost last night! GOD DAMN YOU LUONGO! We need to win game 2 in Vancouver and then have some home cooking back in St. Louis.

Wow, Osgood surprised me tonight and pulled out a spectacular performance against the BJs. Mason played well as well, but no chance for him on the second or third goal.

Chicago and Calgary was really exciting, with lots of back and forth action. Expecting a suspension on Cammalleri though.

SJ and Anaheim was a tough, hard fought game. Was expecting more out of the SJ PP, but it's looked a little disorganized so far.

Montreal and Boston was feisty, and everything that I expected. That Kostopoulos attempted elbow was just filthy though. Solid performance from Thomas and the rest of the Bs.

King Henrik steps up again. He didn't have to do as much as the first game though because frustration set into the Capitals and the Ranger forwards did a good job of taking advantage.

Varlamov was in net for the Caps... and he did pretty good... the only goal allowed was on a 2 on 1.

Capitals need to regain their composure if they want to have any chance of winning at least 1 game... a lot of their passes and shots were so bad that I almost switched the channel. Green, Ovechkin, and Semin are also trying too hard to either do it by themselves or make the perfect play.
Pretty bored.

I usually forget (like most people) that Osgood has 3 Stanley Cup rings (2 where he was the starter) & is T10 in wins. Why did I ever doubt the Red Wings? I'm so foolish.

Right now, they are the team to beat. They are the closest ones to Mr. Stanley right now and it's going to take a big upset to take it away from them.

On another note, I have tripled my bankroll since the playoffs started. I love playoff hockey.
Pretty bored.

Heh... last game... Montreal fans booed the American national anthem (and then went on to boo their own players). Today, they're booing Carey Price... and he pulls a Patrick Roy (threw his hands up to the rafters after making a simple save and getting sarcastic claps from the crowd). Nice.

Happy I was able to get my Bruins bet in at the last minute.

King Henrik is back at it again and is stoning the Capitals right now. 1 period to go, but he has been great.

That weak goal that Varlamov gave up cost the Capitals... that's a shame. Capitals hit a good amount of posts too.

Avery... just... wow...

There's nothing like betting on a game to make it all that much more exciting.

I put a huge bet on Detroit -0.5 (regulation only) and -1.5...

3-1 in the 1st... I figured it was over... Detroit has this... I win. Columbus ties it up... okay... that's fine.

5-3... nice! There we go, I knew the Wings could do it!

Columbus ties it up. 3rd period.

Here's where I start to get nervous.

One and a half to go... wow... I just lost a lot of money didn't I? Columbus takes a too many men on the ice penalty!

46.6 seconds left and Franzen puts it in!

Sadly, they didn't get the empty-netter... so I didn't win the Detroit -1.5 bet... but I still made a small profit.

That was great.
Pretty bored.

Have I ever said that I love playoff hockey?

I'm up more than 5 times my original bankroll in the playoffs now... would have been more if I had had the guts to pull the trigger on the Hawks-Ducks parlay today (assuming Ducks can keep their lead through the 3rd).

Hoping I can continue this on through the 2nd round.
Pretty bored.

Devils game was heart-breaking for fans. What an insane ending.

Both game 7's were pretty wild at the end.

Round 2

Detroit Red Wings vs Anaheim Ducks
I have had time to reflect... and I still don't know. Brain tells me to go with Wings in 5. Gut tells me Ducks in 7. Usually I go with my gut.

Vancouver Canucks vs Chicago Blackhawks
Going against all my instinct and going with the Nucks here. Canucks in 6.

Boston Bruins vs Carolina Hurricanes
I would have rather seen a Boston vs Pittsburgh series since I think I could call that one better. Boston in 6.

Washington Capitals vs Pittsburgh Penguins
Okay, wtf did the Hockey Gods do here? Someone had to have scripted this. Penguins in 5. I don't see the rookie Varlamov being able to keep the Caps in this one.
Btw... I think the Brashear suspension was stupid. Should have been only 2 games. Campbell is an idiot that doesn't know what he's doing.

For my Round 2 Picks, I'm gonna go with the Wings in 5, Hawks in 6 or 7, Bruins in 4, maybe 5, and the Caps in a close series of seven games.

Any doubt I had about the kid Varlamov has disappeared. He's been great. He's stopping game-changing goals and giving his team every opportunity to win.

Fleury has been really good at his end as well.

Ovechkin & Crosby... they've been excellent. Every time either of their line steps onto the ice... there seems to be chances at the net. Both got hat-tricks... in the same game!

The reason why the Capitals are leading the series 2-0 is because the rest of the Capitals team is playing better than the rest of the Penguins team. Pittsburgh needs Malkin to wake up because he hasn't really been doing anything.
Pretty bored.

When Ovechkin got his hat-trick and the crowd starting throwing their hats Crosby was complaining to the refs.

Then when Crosby got a hat-trick we only get to see one hat... sad.gif

I'll go with Caps in 5.

I'm sorry... have to vent a little here.

Stupid referee in the Det-Ana game today. I forget his name already.

2-1 Anaheim, about a minute to go... puck is loose in the crease and Detroit is able to poke it into the net... BUT THE WHISTLE WENT. WTF.

Are you kidding me?

Usually I don't jump all over a ref like this when they make bad calls because it's understandable that they make mistakes sometimes... but this was terrible. The puck was NOWHERE CLOSE to being covered and OBVIOUSLY loose in the crease... but he blows the quick whistle. He needs to get his eyes checked because I don't see how a professional referee in the NHL playoffs loses sight of that. I've seen a lot of quick whistles come when the puck is loose, but it's usually easy to see why the referee might have lost sight of the puck. This puck was loose, it was obviously loose, and there was no reason for the quick whistle.

He better not be at the top of the list of referees for the next couple rounds of the playoffs.

EDIT: Not to mention that the puck was across the line BEFORE the whistle went anyways. They really should make these kinds of plays reveiw-able. The Wings, who totally out-worked & out-played the Ducks, just got royally screwed over.
