So I just got back from seeing Batman v Superman and the best way I can describe the movie was interesting... if that makes any sense.  For sure it's not the best comic book movie of all time, but neither is it the worst like say *cough cough* Batman and Robin   .   What I can say is that the movie did overhype on the whole aspect of Batman v Superman, but is it a bad thing?  I believe that's subjective depending on the time of person you are and one thing I can say is it has more of an adult vibe then most superhero movies.  As for Actors go  Ben Afleck as Bruce Wayne was amazing and the same thing can be said for Henry Cavill as Clark Kent and Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman.  Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luther I'm pretty iffy on I've fully wrapped my mind around what I thought of him.  Amy Adams as Lois Lane was good and the actress who was Clark's mother did a good job as well.  

 

 

I will do a more indepth review about Batman v Superman tomorrow on my channel.

Continuing the discussion about Batman V Superman.

Let's start with probably what people wanted and want to know the most. In the fight between Batman and Superman, who wins?

Well some of you might already know or probably figured it out by yourselves from the first announcement they made about the movie at Comic-Con 2013 if I'm not mistaken the year; who was going to be the winner of the fight.

For those of you that haven't figured it out, the one who won the fight between those two is Batman.

 

I personally liked the fight but the ending of it and the outcome left a sour taste for me. Also some of the things prior to the fight. The movie wants to make you believe that Lex was the mastermind behind the fight, that he was the one that setup all of it, pushing Batman and Superman to fight. But that wasn't really what it was shown. Maybe it's in the extended cut but not the theatrical one.

If Batman didn't want to destroy Superman; then Lex's master plan wouldn't failed because everything just happens by luck and Lex just gets want he wants.

 

I said I didn't like the end and outcome of the fight, I'll talk about them but first the fight itself. Batman uses a kryptonite gas grenade to weaken Superman. The kryptonite came from Lex that got it from the government and Batman stole it from him. What would've happen to Lex's plan to kill Clark (yes he knows who he is) if Batman didn't steal the kryptonite?

That gas soon starts to lose its effect and Superman gets his powers back, plays with Batman for a while. Then Batman uses another grenade which from my perspective it only worked because of luck. Batman teaches Superman what it means to be a man.

And here's the part that I didn't like. Batman made a kryptonite spear to kill Superman. Yes, kill him. Remember the whole "No guns, no killing." part? Well you can forget about that, actually you can forget about that for both of them. Both showed that they have no problem killing people.

 

This was the part where to me it would've been better to have Batman putting Superman in check. A small reminder that even though he's incredibly powerful, that he isn't invincible. But no. Batman was going to kill him. Now what stops Batman from killing him?

Here's a part that annoyed me. Superman agreed to fight Batman because Lex kidnapped his mother, Martha Kent.

The reason Batman didn't kill Superman is because of Martha. Because their mother's name is the same. And when Batman heard about Martha, he had a flashback to his mother. And he stopped and promised Clark that Martha won't die today.

That scene from the last trailer where Batman comes jumping from beneath the floor and beating the crap out of those bad guys, that's the scene when he saves Martha Kent. Which brings me to what he told her. He told her "I'm a friend of your son."

And I'm like is this a joke? You were about to kill him and now all of sudden he's your friend.

 

Another thing that I didn't like because it made no sense. After the fight is over Lois grabs the spear and throws it in the water. Later on when Doomsday arrives Batman understands that the spear will kill it. Lois doesn't know this, she's in Gotham while Batman is in Metropolis trying to make Doomsday to follow him. All of a sudden Lois decides to go back and get the spear without any knowledge whatsoever. How does she know the spear will work on Doomsday? No answer unless it's the extended cut.

Does she have a link to Batman's brain? Who knows.

 

Anyway she gets trapped and Superman has to save her again. He saves her goes back down in the water to grab the kryptonite spear has a little "I love you" moment with Lois and decides to do something that I found stupid. He takes the spear and runs towards Doomsday which by the way is a creation between Zod and Lex's blood. Now instead of throwing the spear he sacrifices himself in that fight. Yeah Superman dies by Doomsday hands. Or lack of hand since Wonder Woman cut his arm off.

As I've already said I'm not a comic book fan, I never got the opportunity to read any of them. But from what I understand Superman also sacrificed himself in the comics. Don't know.

My problem is why didn't he throw the spear? And now that he's dead (don't worry at the end he comes back in a way), the tension is gone. Because when Darkseid comes, the tension of Superman dieing is gone. I mean what can they do now? Kill him again? Then bring him back again? Who cares anymore?

 

Let's talk about the Flash, Cyborg and fish man. This is yet another thing that I didn't like. The setup for the next movie is a small and brief moment in form of an e-mail from Batman to Wonder Woman. In which we're presented to videos from Flash in a store saving the day, fish man in his ocean looking at the camera and Cyborg experimenting. Oh boy.

 

I'm going to stop here because my head hurts. The good parts, you asks. Well if you want to see a bad-ass Batman then it will be a good movie for you. Just don't expect anything more.

Yeah, those flaws really stood out to me too and it only seems to reinforce the idea that DC didn't really have a very long and thought out plan for the DCCU like Marvel did for the MCU as much as simply trying to rush to play catch-up, and that only makes me worry more when I think about possible changes that may happen along the way in one form another (actors/actresses leaving/getting changed for some reason, stories getting changed, and so on). Marvel has shown to be able to roll with, and even take advantage of changes that occurred (Edward Norton leaving and being replaced by Mark Ruffalo, getting the rights back to Spider-Man and incorporating him, and his reboots, into the MCU and such) and I wouldn't be surprised if they had at least SOME preparations in place for such eventualities, but if it happens with the DCCU here? I dunno...

Of course, the movie hardly bombs because of the flaws as there's plenty of awesome stuff in it too, which is why so many people are at least scratching their heads over such a hyped up movie, so I guess, on average, the movie was "okay".

Though, one issue I read about in early reviews and saw in the movie itself that I didn't especially like being...

The fact that there is no deeper philosophical fight between Clark and Bruce like most of their conflicts tend to entail. Both of them want justice and to help the people but merely have completely different views on how to achieve it; Superman believing more in the goodness of humanity and such while Batman being more about force and fear, with both of them having been shown to work in their respective cities and other places. It's much like how Steve Rogers and Tony Stark have opposing views on how the Avengers should be handled, but still want the same thing in the end. Here, the conflict between Clark and Bruce is pretty much just fan-service with no deeper meaning or understanding reached between Clark and Bruce outside of the whole "zomg! Our mothers' names match!" It really cheapens the fight, especially when you couple it being set up by Lex rather than them simply coming to a temporary impasse in their ideologies.

...so I'd still generally recommend it to people, but if you really want a more "true" version, then I'd stick with the DCAU stuff: Batman: The Animated series, Superman: The Animated series, the Superman/Batman: World's Strongest animated movie, Batman Beyond, and then the Justice League and Justice League Unlimited cartoons.

Watched it today!!!! I enjoyed it. It was a good movie but too much was going on to set up Justice League and well like others here I found the reason for Bats and Supes' mutual understanding underwhelming and not very impressive -___-. But as a movie it was good but not as good as it was hyped up to be as usual

It was way too long, and unnecessarily so. Personally, I feel like it could have been chopped by a good 30/40 mins minimum and still have an almost identical story. 

Long movies are fine if they can manage to keep the audience engaged, but when I tell you me and my friends (all big fans of the characters) were getting impatient and a bit grumpy, I'm not kidding. 

 

I swear it felt like it took an 90 mins to get the story moving along. The entire storyline with Lois being Superman's heart could have been told in a few sentences. We did not need to see it take up so much screen time, we all know how he feels about Lois! come on SNYDER ! CUT CUT CUT FOR THE SAKE OF ALL THINGS LOVELY, CUT AND EDIT!

 

I also did not care for this take on batman. I know he's suppose to be older and a lot more jaded after twenty years of crime fighting, but I wasnt all that agreeable with his reasoning for wanting to get rid of Superman. 

 

Also it was not without those wtf moments. Like someone already said, how did Lois and Batman know that Doomsday was of Kryptonian origin? 

 

The best part of this movie was Wonder Woman. I admit to being one of the people on the no list about Gadot, but seeing Wonder Woman in live action on the big screen being the bad*** she is, brought literal tears to my eyes. 

 

She only got like 10 mins total of screen time though so..

4/10. I'm not saying dont see it. I think any fan should go see it. I will say to set the bar low.

Like they said in the cinemassacre review :They should have made two movie , One B v S and the other Dawn of justice. It felt overload and it really appear to playing the catch up game.

DC rushing things is sad. I think the biggest difference is that they knew going in they had nothing to lose. What I meant by that is that this movie is an event that fan wanted for like 15-20 years. Everyone on the street know who Batman and Superman are. The movie was guaranteed 95% to make huge money, regardless of the quality. The biggest disappointment is if your a Superman fan that doesn't really like Batman.

Okay I didn't like Man of Steel. The problem for me was that Superman seems to care more about his own motivation to stop Zod instead of humanity. When he snap Zod's neck, I was kind of SHOCK. I mean it's not like a kill offscreen or something. He murdered him with his bare hand in front of some people. After reading some internet post, I was kind of reminded that it might have been to show that he ended his own racer, making himself the alst son of Krypton and by that point, decide not to kill.

The thing is 5 minutes in BvS. He kill a terrorist (which throw that out of the window). When Lois has the gun pointed on her. If it wasn't Lois, would he even show up there? She is his world after all he said. My problem with this movie is that it didn't show Sup's caring that much for humanity. I know they wanted to make him more serious but why dark and brooding Sup. I mean are all DCCU be with that tone? Heroes like Flash, Green Lantern and for godsake Shazam. Back to superman, My main concern is that they tried so much to make him a god above the human that he didn't seems to value the same being he's suppose to save. Where the hope in this movie Superman is suppose to carry. And DAMN DID HE GET THE BEATING OF HIS LIFE IN THE END? On thing that bother me is Lex orchastrated the whole thing. Manipulate a new Superman. Okay. But a pass 20 years Batman?? Isn't he the smartest person in DC? Should he knew that he played Lex's hand. The major disappointment for me, is the weak conflict, in a week where I came out of DD Season 2. Anyone who read DD storyline about Punisher (episode 3 was the best XD). You see conviction, the point of both guys and why though they both kind of right, why they can't come to an agreement.

 

Considering the hype and that this movie is the foundation of the Justice League, this is bad. The 50/50 split eff is worst for this one. Man of steel had that too. Normally, you check what went wrong and you adjust. They didn't listen to the feedback ( I don't know if it's DC or Snyder to blame here) and continue on. What was good? Everything Batman related ( Batman, Alfred, The cave, the Batmobile XD) Still fail Superman though, which is kind of an important character in justice league, if my memory serve me right. Color won't kill the movie. (At least for sup.) Snyder said he wanted to continue to make movie like Nolan. Thing is, he is not the guy and that tone doesn't work with every DC heroes,

Honestly, that's what me and my brother thought as well. It should have been two movies. It almost felt like three to me, but still, it felt too cramped up. I probably guilty pleasure like it due to Batman but I wish I like it in general. Batman carried the movie to make it acceptable because there are many things that I felt something was off. Oh well...

well my month wasn't completely ruined, i did enjoy the heck out of daredevil season 2 lol. honestly, batman is really the only thing dc/wb got going for them anyway, and too much of batman is why i'm not gaga about him anymore. just watch dc/wb give their future movies dark tones. let the nolan nostalgia die already!

Nolan did a right balance, but apparently, WB/DC/Snyder want it dark as hell. Like I like them and all, but Nolan movies got me smiling when it's necessarily needs a cool down. Here, you're not allowed to have fun. I'm not asking for them to be a Marvel movie, but know the balance.

My thoughts after watching the movie:

As I thought, it was a mixed bag. The pacing was all over the pace, many scenes felt rushed. The Kent scene at the snowy mountains could be an awesome moment of contemplation for Clark's character, but it happens so suddenly and without build up that it loses half of it's effect. Many scenes were just 10 seconds of pure exposition and then "CUT!". It's so thoughtless and poorly done... Don't get me started on the whole "death of Superman" segment of the movie. That was an utterly wasted plotline with no meaning (considering the very last frame of the movie) that should have been saved for the justice league sequels. Doomsday was garbage. He looked terrible. It was a lame CGI fest that couldn't do justice to his character. And was obviously shoehorned to give the movie a final boss for the heroes to beat. Louis character was reduced to a damsel in distress with no other relevance but to get super into trouble. 

 

And ohohoho, the worst thing of the movie was Lex for sure. What a terrible character that feels like a smug middle finger to the real thing. He is not Luthor, not in the slightest. He is a Joker, or a riddler. Why he is so eccentric? And childish? Half of the time he is a spoiled brat that throws a temper when things don't go his way. Ughh!!!!

 

Well, now that I vented, let me point out the positives. Batman for damn sure. He was a cool badass till the very end. My favourite thing is that he finally threw out that stupid no killing policy that only holds him back and makes him weak. Hell yeah! Use some lethal force on those criminal scum b-man! 

 

The action was well done, I liked the Batman vs Superman fight, the Batman action scenes in general were awesome, and wonder woman was pretty cool too. I still don't like Gadot as WW, she is not meneacing in any way, and those scenes with her in a dress clearly show how out of shape she is for the character. They need a buff woman for the amazon warrior!

 

All in all, this movie had more bad then good, but at the same time still managed to bring some occasional enjoyment.

 

And in the end, Batmna vs Superman earns from me a 4/10

 

A movie that screams wasted potential and could have been genuinelly amazing if it was directed by someone with more talent
