You're so awesome! Thx for giving the manga a try! Just wait and see how the foodgasms are slowly but surely replaced by some wild imaginary trips/battles (b/c after a while just naked people gets kind of repetitive)- and the artwork is absolutely gorgeous!

All aboard the Soma train.

So now I can comment on the ranking. Note: Don't read if you are not up-to-date.

1) Soma - I really like him, especially that "skip". Thanks to the art, it really made him look developed.
2) Erina - Her nice side is delight and this next arc is going to have her more around. It's funny because it's only 120 chapters so it's like we have time to explore a lot. If fans still interested, then the mangaka is good to go with her.
3) Takumi - I really like him, so good for him to be top 3. He has honor by winning back Mezzaluna by his own hands and I respect that. His brotherhood is pretty good as well. Also, he's fun to see when he get mocked. My favorite scene recently got animated, so I can't stop laughing how epic it was supposed to be.
4) Megumi - Charming and funny when things seem too serious, especially that page that trang posted earlier. Don't have to explain myself.
5) Ayato - Thanks to the tournament and especially last arc, she got into 5th. But I would say I do like her, especially that she is now really nice to Soma. No character stay the same as they would say.
6) Alice - She just fun to watch and she's pretty much the Nakiri of having normal life out of her and Erina. But I just like how childish she can be but really smart as how her family branch are. Btw, did you know now who's the maker of those pamphlet with cute pictures? Lol.
7) Shinomiya - The last arc helped but I do like him. He's amusing and surprisingly nice of him to do all of this.
8) Hayama - I like his backstory and skills he has. It really makes him worthy of Elite Ten. Plus I did get a vibe of Oikawa when he was ready for the main event. Yes, I just made a reference.
9) Nikumi - Amusing to watch and helpful when it comes to meat aspects. I would like more of her but it seems like the latest arc may do that.
10) Isshiki - he's more hidden when you think about it because we don't know how great his cook is, but we get the idea that he's more of a genius especially small tidbits here and there in the past. Plus he understands Soma perfectly well in his potential. This arc may be the time to show his character. Expect him to rise in the next poll.

The reason why I thought you might like this manga is b/c you like sports mangas so much... Figured out you might like highschool-focused mangas in general a lot XD

Anyways, I'll tell you my thoughts about this manga

The setting is the almost utopian-like Totsuki Culinary Academy for middle school & high school students who aim to become Top-rate chefs. Since it's regarded as the most prestigious school in Japan, the graduation rate is about 1% at the end of the third year in high school. And here's the question: What does the school board do to minimize the number of students until only 1% is left out of 1000 students in the beginning? The answer is simple: Ruthless tests in form of physically-straining camps, cooking competitions with difficult and diverse themes, internships in high-class restaurants etc. It's all about eliminating the meak, meager ones, and separating them from the best of the best. Sometimes the trials were rather shockingly hard. A LOT is demanded from the students. Just take a look at how many are left as of right now:

 

• Chapter 4 - Approximately 1000 students at the start of the first year
• Chapter 14 - 980 students at the start of the Tōtsuki Friendship and Rapport Training Camp
• Chapter 33 - 628 students at the end of the Tōtsuki Friendship and Rapport Training Camp
• Chapter 116 - 504 students at the start of the Stagiaire
• Chapter 117 - 294 students at the end of the Stagiaire

Enter Soma Yukihira... Hahaha, he's totally looked down upon by the others b/c his home was running a simple "plebeian" restaurant . So one of the best things about this manga is when he continuously proves others to not underestimate him: I can't get enough of it XD He's not necessarily "talented" as stated by his father, but what sets him apart from others is that he takes in new techniques like a sponge and stays calm even in the most dire moments. Kind of clichee-sounding, but Souma is a rather serious MC if you ask me.

The rest of the cast is also great. Soma's dormmates in the Polar Star Dormitory are all hilarious and amazing in their own way with their own quirky traits. Btw, the two other female leads are the shy, but innocent-hearted Megumi Tadokoro, and the conceited Erina Nakiri. Megumi is just... adorable. She's the closest to Soma in my eyes, and has evolved a lot as of lately. There's still this frantic and easily intimidated side of her, but I love it. Erina is the one that lacks character development as of right now, and thinks very lowly of Soma (I still ship her with Soma, but that's another story). She's a Tsundere character done right though XD

In general, each character has a certain forte aka strength that one concentrates their culinary skills on and as a result the dishes revolve around that specialty.

Oh, the food... Just talking about it makes me drool. So creative... The last time I've read a cooking manga was Kitchen Princess... That brings back good memories. Anyways, I wouldn't mind to trade with one of those judges.

Remember how I talked about the gorgeous art? It kind of gets not appreciated enough in the beginning b/c of the foodgasm scenes by some I feel... And I don't blame them. But as time goes on, the foodgasms evolved... and became more bizarre (or funny, take it as you want).

Of course, the naked scenes will never disappear, but, meh, you get used to it (the anime is another thing, lol).

So yeah, very entertaining. That entire school system peaked my interest from the start. Can't wait for next week >_<

I love Doujima's reaction because it's never something really connects his design rather anything Sailor Moon/slice of life based of school girls reactions. It's hilarious.

That's it: I'm officially sold on the SomaxErina ship. Made myself clear in the OTP thread. Remember, I only watch the anime, and a read few chapters of the manga with a few spoilers here and there, so I apologize if I offended anyone with my explanation due to my lack of knowledge: http://www.narusaku....=14917&p=835788

I'm really looking forward to catching up on this manga. But the fanservice in episode 1 almost made me drop it I've missed the kind of manga that is nothing supernatural or actionorientated but simply meant for entertainment and character development. I love the food challenges, and especially love it when my characters I cheer on show their opponents how it's done . Very intense sometimes (and by now, I'm just laughing my ass of at the foodgasms; I can't take them seriously anymore).

And btw... seeing the dishes in real is pure eyegasm for me:
