Her flashbacks are the closest thing to being pairing related in my eyes, and it's still difficult for me to consider them pairing related because of the seriousness of the situation. I'm a little crushed, to be honest. I was hoping to see her feelings resolved in this chapter, but I guess I was expecting too much too soon.

 

I highly doubt Kishimoto would've ended the great pairing war in this chapter, especially with Naruto in a comatose state.

 

Yeah, she was only doing mouth-to-mouth CPR to save his life -- but why would the author write that in given that she was pumping his heart, which would have been the most extreme thing imaginable?

 

I completely understand the sentiment that this isn't a simple, clear cut, love-dovey romance moment, but I am surprisingly optimistic that this will be brought up again in the future.

LOL! It wasn't quite what I had in mind. Kishimoto is taking the Sakura's-hold-on-Naruto's-heart thing way to literally.

Just like chapter 662, I can't believe that Sakura and Karin did what they just did in this chapter. Sakura attempting to do anything to save Naruto's life was probably the most romantic thing I've ever seen her do for Naruto. Again I sound like a broken record, but so far my theory on this being the volume's focus is correct.

Dear lord, this chapter...

 

Sakura, freaking medic of the year. It's takes a badass to do what she did and keep calm while doing so.

 

Karin suddenly gets a badass upgrade with the Uzumaki chains, although you have to wonder where were those before.

 

The CPR to me is just that, CPR. But I do like how she reflects on Naruto's dream to become Hokage. A nice callback to the chunin exams.

 

Madara... he's become way too broken. Right now he's like one of those video game bosses that makes you rage quit because he keeps beating you every time.

 

Also, "a suspicious shadow approaches Sasuke"? Riiiiiiiiiight, because that's totally not Karin.

 

So true. I mean god even if they resurrect them both, how do you stop this guy. I mean what keep him from stealing Naruto other half of the Kyubi and stab Sasuke again. I mean this guy is like a freaking god. To stop his plan they need to pull a Picolo for the good of mankind lol:P.

Unless he doesn't care about the pairing war, which I think he doesn't.

I also understand your optimism, though I more cautious. Only to avoid being possibly disappointed later.

It's going to take some time for this chapter to settle in my head.  Several things I don't understand, but will perhaps be more clear after a reread.

 

My medical kink was fired up with this chapter.  When I realized Sakura was out of chakra and could do nothing beyond real world, I thought, "The only thing left is cardiac massage."  Then I clicked the next page and she cut into his side.  I was literally yelling at my laptop, "CARDIAC MASSAGE, SAKURA!  DO IT!  DO IT!!  DO IT!!!!!!!!" 

 

And SHE DID.  Wow.  Great job, girl.  Way to hold it together and do what had to be done.  Sakura rules.  She absolutely RULES.  You guys were crying for her to be a heroine....  

 

Kishimoto is going somewhere with the mouth-to-mouth, too.  Count on it.

 

P.S.  If you see this Nate River, I thought of you when Suigetsu helped Karin.  Several panels of your favorite Team Not Seven.

Well it can be Orochimaru, Jugo or Suigetsu, they were all barefoot. I'm betting for Kabuto tho.

Some people are complaining how Zetsu was taken out by Team Orochimaru, but they only slowed him down, not stopped him.

 

I have a bit of that feeling as well, but did you know in real life, mouth-to-mouth CPR is actually not very effective in adults? The way it's suppose to be done is to simply push on the ribs.

Push on the ribs? If you mean chest compressions (on the sternum, not the ribs), that is already covered by Sakura doing direct cardiac massage. We can suppose that medical ninjas can increase the oxygen content of their breath, in which case her artificial respiration would be more effective than in real life.

 

As someone who had to do CPR on an overweight drowning victim reeking of alcohol and bad breath, it is certainly not romantic. 

 

But it does show Sakura's determination and strength in a crisis, which helps make her a worthy partner to Naruto (when NS does become cannon).

You're not the only one. It might be medically practical to try and return circulation to Naruto's vessels (CPR is generally performed with the intention of temporarily restoring blood flow and oxygenation to prevent brain damage) but this isn't exactly a conventional CR since it's his chakra that's stopped circulating and not his blood. And I'm pretty certain that it was stated in an earlier chapter that a jinchuuriki is deprived of all their chakra when the bijuu is extracted. Although Sakura performing a chakra transference and then forcing it to flow throughout his body might have counteracted that deficiency. 

 

Either way, there's a certain sense of mortification that comes with someone literally and intimately holding your heart like that. Even with Sakura, it's disturbing to see her grasping Naruto's internal organs. It's a level of vulnerability and closeness which by usual standards would be outrageous.

Hopefully Naruto won't be disheartened to find out Sakura's lips were on his and he didn't get to enjoy it.  

 

I still can't get over what Sakura-chan did.  Open chest heart massage.  It's such a last ditch, scary-ass thing to do.  And she was so cool about it, keeping herself going by remembering his dream.  Great stuff.

 

The thing I like about the heart massage (besides the badassery) is that it's so... personal.  Between literally holding Naruto's heart in her hands, and her lips on his lips, it's an amazingly personal moment -- whether it's romantic or not.  It's an incredible bond.
