I agree with the films but that's abit extracting for the books isn't it?

A bit but  not that much. Im currently rereading the series and im at the chamber of secrets. So far there has been at  least one refference to Ginny in every chapter.

Oh looks like I need to read the books for a third time.

So what does one actually do on Pottermore?

On Wikipedia it says Pottermore is a website focusing on the unknown parts of the Harry Potter series and re-telling the story in an interactive way

Has a lot of legit points. (Not your fault Bonnie, it was the script.)

Great article. Enjoyed the movies and overlooked all the screwy characterizations — basically it reaffirmed my belief that the book is always better than the movie.

Of course they are. The movies (generaly book adaptations) were never made to expand the universe. They are made to introduce the story to a lazier audience, and to visualize our favorite story.

Personaly I think its like Manga vs Anime. We all love the manga and know the anime`s faults, but hey,,, We just have to watch the big battles animated :D

Yeah I thought like that as well Harry was James, Hermione was Lily & for me I thought Ron was Sirius. The films did to me make HxG came out of Nowhere. Though the books gives more hints, though I wonder if there could of been more. Then again I didn't really care much for who ended up with who in Harry Potter, unlike with Naruto here.

Strange I always thought Harry was more like Lily, I used to argue that Harry was more like his mother because everytime we heard about James he never sounded like Harry.

I'd read the books before I watched the movies, and after the train ride to Hogwarts finished I had concluded that Harry and Ginny would end up together and Hermione and Ron would also end up together, even though all Ginny had done up until that point was wish Harry good luck on goin through the barrier and running after the train because she didn't want to be left behind, but I found it oddly strange how much detail JKR put into that little tidbit, and considering it was all in Harry's perspective it was him who was for some reason noticing this little girl who wasn't even going to Hogwarts with him, and the way Ron and Hermione got off on the wrong foot just screamed your typical opposites attract romance...I'd also guessed quite quickly Tonks would end up with Remus though I have no idea why that was, the only pairing I got wrong was Luna and Nevile not ending up together.

I always found Harry and Hermiones shipping disturbing, for me ever since the end of the first book, they were brother and sister, more so than even Ginny and Ron, I didn't see any romantic relationship between them at all.

Did anyone else compare Harry and Naruto allot early on? I used to see soo many similarities between the two. Two orphans, growing up unloved, being compared to their father (though I used to argue they were probably more like their mother, which turned out to be the case in both cases.) having a heavy burden on their shoulder, both short for their age when younger, and looked allot like their father etc?

Of course they are. The movies (generaly book adaptations) were never made to expand the universe. They are made to introduce the story to a lazier audience, and to visualize our favorite story.

Personaly I think its like Manga vs Anime. We all love the manga and know the anime`s faults, but hey,,, We just have to watch the big battles animated :D

I've had the Manga Vs Anime argument plenty of times, and it's not as clear cut as the Movies vs Books argument, where content is always cut to fit into movies, content is not usually cut in anime, infact it can often make certain scenes make more sense, this was specially the case in battle mangas where seeing the scene animated makes the scenes make more sense. I'm personally of the belief that you need to read the manga and watch the Anime (as long as it's faithful to the manga) to get the complete picture, sometimes the manga will capture a moment that will help understand a scene better, where sometimes by giving the bubbles voices the anime will give you a better understand of what the charactor is feeling at a particular moment, they both compliment each other very well, as long as they are done well.

Apparently.  But it completely contradicts everything she said before.

Then again, she changed her mind mid-stream with a very important plot point, and screwed up a lot of people's expectation because the change wasn't set up and didn't make sense.

The more she talks, the more I wonder why she talks. :ermm:

Harry and Hermione till the bitter end, man. Never liked Ginny. And Bonnie (or should I say her script?) definitely didn't do anything to make me feel otherwise. Ron? Liked him when it came to his bromance with Harry. Hated him when he'd be a jerk to Hermione (thought he was a major douche in book 6). I'd like to be a hipster and say I got into the books before the films, but my memory's a little blurry. I know Dan and Emma's chemistry definitely had a part in me shipping HxHr, but even before that, they just felt good together. The shipper feels got to me around the time the 3rd and 4th films came out, that's when I started viewing them as a calm and cool kind of couple. Thought HxHr was totally gonna be endgame, but...stuff happens. Still believe the resolution of those pairings was the only mistake Rowling ever made. And I'm just gonna go ahead and say it; don't like the RxHr fanbase. I do not like that group. Now, certain individuals within that group, I actually like, but..... as a whole (and now I'm really pushing it), the feeling that I get when I think of NH......is similar to the feeling that I get when I think of RxHr.

Meh, at this point I think she's just trolling. But I gotta give her credit for making the Harry/Ginny ship canon not because they were cute and all that. But because it served the plot or otherwise, the plot would've been screwed. I'm pretty pragmatic when it comes to pairings, if it serves a plot purpose, then I ship it.

Makes me wonder why the movies got me confused at certain point. I don't know but I remember by books/movies, I didn't care for romance mainly because it wasn't on the right focus. I always like for those who is focused the most as well as sided with the most should be together. Yes, you can work other way around, but it seems like your investment isn't worth it if the two isn't the same status level. Like here, it pretty much happened in a couple of movies or books, rather than throughout the whole. It's like playing RPG game, and only the protagonist gets love from some side character that only lasted an hour out of 35+ of gameplay.

But of course, that's just me.

It's interesting to see that Rowling's viewpoint has changed 20 years after she was in the drafting stages of the novel. I can see how it would, being pragmatic about it. But she doesn't say she'd go back and rewrite the whole book to pair HH in the book, just the Ron and Hermione wouldn't be well-suited to each other in a long-term marriage, as life partners. That's how I read it. That they'd eventually need marriage counseling. And yeah, I'd agree with that. :)

It's brave on JKR's part to speak about it, instead of choosing to just let it go and not make waves with her fandom. It shows that writers/artists/creatives never really finish working on projects they love. They are still reimagining, snipping loose strings, mentally rewriting or repainting their creations years later.

edit:

JKR says: "I think there are fans out there who know that too and who wonder whether Ron would have really been able to make her happy."

Reading it again, it's also interesting that JKR doesn't mention about rewriting the book, or what would make Ron or Harry happy, just that from Hermione' pov, that making the marriage work would have been a harder leap for her.

But, eh, the books/HP story was never about romance, but about friendships and Harry's overcoming his past to succeed in his goals. The romance was a de facto part of all that, but not the driving engine. And this is a book read by the 10-14yo bracket to begin with. If it had more realistic romance, the whole tone would change and it's starting point would hit more of a YA audience.

It doesn't change anything for me. I think the development in both the books and movies were fine. But yeah, in real life, after 20 years of marriage, Hermione and Ron might have to work harder than most to keep their partnership going strong, simply because they are inherently such different people. Personality-wise, Harrry and Hermione are closer together in that regard. (Although that doesn't guarantee them a happy RL marriage either.)
