I had forgotten the hand holding. However, one thing I think Kishimoto is very good at is crafting scenes that leave him multiple avenues to go with. Hinata's expression of that goal earlier certainly seemed romantic both as to hand holding and standing by his side. Now that others are wanting to stand by his side, to me, it makes her expression less unique and her achieving that significantly less proof of some kind of romantic accomplish (as to the pairing as a whole, rather that just Hinata's personal view) that it would have been.
Maybe, but I think this chapter confirms that Hinata
hasn't reached her goal to be by Naruto's side.
Remember, Sakura also said she will fight with Naruto back in part 1.
I'd agree that doesn't kill it. If nothing else just because others want it, doesn't mean she has something else in mind when she says it, but in this chapter at least, Kishimoto doesn't offer anything that indicates whether that is the case or not. Then again, my standard for that is very high. Basically the end of the manga or confirmation of something else that elminates it would be what it takes for me.
Well, the fact that all she could think about was Naruto after Shikamaru came back from the dead pretty much says it for me. =\
