It's not just about this arc... Sakura compared with the other main chars has always been lacking action in the previous Arcs, except Sasori one where she really kicked ass.

Every other character got a shining moment at this war arc(the important ones anyway).
If Sakura is indeed the main heroine, Kishi says she is, then I believe she needs to get her development this arc.
I honestly can't call Sakura a heroine if she doesn't have any major developments when ALL THE OTHERS HAVE IT.

I don't know, to me Neji's death doesn't increase the likelihood of others dying. He definitely is a character with little collateral damage. His storyline was resolved, meaning he'd achieved what he meant to achieve, and he's not romantically linked to anyone. So his death is sad, carries weight and meaning, but is not debilatizing for the hero. With that in mind, Rock Lee could be another one of the rookies who could go down, as opposed to TenTen or Shino who don't have much of a storyline to speak of. So their death would carry much weight for the audience (or Naruto).

I'm not as sad as I think I could be or should be. Part of it is the massive cynicism built up over the course of the manga for all the near death/resurrection of character particularly, rookies, that I can't eliminate the possibility this is not permanent.

1. Earlier in the Chapter Obito reveals he can use Edo Tensei and given that he is a very obvious set up for Death Equals Redemption, I wouldn't put that past him to use that as he dies. I don't think Kishimoto is so lazy or brazen to use the same trick twice to dodge the consequences of war, but I didn't think he'd pull that the first time either. So I'd agree, that as of right now this proves nothing.

I think aside from Shikamaru, Hinata and Team 7 most of the rookies stories have been completed and anyone of them could serve as emotional cannon fodder. I actually believed Hinata's story was complete at the time of her confession and that a direct resolution was uncessary because her ultimate aim had never been a relationship with Naruto (though I'm sure she wants it). I still think that could have been and I admit if it were me I would have had her survive that, but with 573 and that other chapter (whose name escapes) he's tweaked it a bit and we'll get some kind of resolution to it either directly or by obvious implication.

2. All we get for confirmation of Shikaku and Inochi's deaths' is a dinkey looking explosion (I know it's big, but dinky on paper) in the distance with people commenting on how they are dead? We don't see squat. That and my massive cynicism about character deaths mean that I would not be terribly surprised (I kind of expect it to some degree) to see the Konoha characters turnout to be alive. He certaintly left space for that and for just letting them die. I will give him that: he is good at writting scenes that give him that kind of wiggle room.

QUOTE
And as everyone has said, I don't see this as NH at all. But if there is to be shipping tension in the future, then this definitely drives up Hinata's panel time and makes her more relevant to the larger story. But yeah, this was overall a Hyuga moment. So it's completely expected that Hinata would be there.

If anything, this chapter seems like NH fanfic fodder! New NH stories in 3...2....

Given the vague, and sometimes really broad, notion of moment, I'd call it one. As far as romance, it's like many of Hinata's recent appearances in that it tread no new ground and establishes nothing we didn't already know. Their relationship doesn't change and nothing new is added. This is like her confession without the romantic elements of well...her confession. If Naruto didn't already know Hinata was willing to die for him....then I don't what else to say. For a panel Neji looked ready to shift to a romantic angle, but really all that happens is he reiterates a point made long ago (Hinata is willing to die for him, and that she is ready to protect him) and then moves into much broader.

If I were a NH fan, I'd be happy for the panel time and well...I can't say I'd call it development because what she did here she has done before and Neji steals her thunder in the end (although if he didn't she would be dead...sooo). I suppose I can say imagine if that was Sakura...it still wouldn't be romantic or represent progress in the relationship unless he followed it up different than he did here, but I think the fandom would be thrilled nonetheless.

I don't think he'd kill off Rock Lee, especially since he's got his own manga.

I don't see it as that either. I'm just frustrated at how much more time Hinata is getting; all Sakura got was a single panel where she had to be saved by Kakashi...

Also...if Obito brought Rin back to life, wouldn't he be around 30 and she'd still be 12? *shudders*

tongue.gif I've always thought the same thing, which is why he probably decided not to betray Madara and just have Nagato resurrect her. I mean, he said it himself that he never trusted Madara so why didn't he just ever do that? Because he would feel kind of pedobear cause his training took forever. In Infinite Tsukuyomi she can be whatever age he wants.

QUOTE (tricksie @ Dec 18 2012, 08:03 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
So...Madara said he needed a living body.... Who do you think is going to get the honor of being the juubi's jinchuriki?

Naruto. Maybe Obito will die sacrificing himself once he's turned into a hero again? Too cliche, too obvious, or too Kishi (just right)?

Sakuta didn't even dodge the mokuton by herself, Kakashi had to protect her. It made her look useless, and worse- meanwhile, someone died.

Honestly, I feel like she is trashing her hard times... I mean, what about that part with dodging abilities.
She should do that by her own, yet, Kakashi's there to do it.
Really now, I am starting to get disappointed with Kishi when it comes to her character...
Probably my expectations are too high... sad.gif

this's not true... You can clearly see that Sakura dodge the mokuton by herself as says the ballon SFX near her right shoulder...Also because he's behind Kakashi (maybe she was healing still him).

Hinata: I'm so sad over Neji's death… Naruto, I need consolation. Let's make out, right now, in the middle of battle. Let our shouts of joy mingle with the weeping of the dying Alliance ninjas. Just push Neji over, and his bloodied body will become our bed of bliss.

Obito: Naruto, didn't you say that you wouldn't let your friends… EEYAGH! Get a room! Curse this Sharingan, I can't stop seeing what you two are doing!

(Neji: Would you two please get off? The wound is mortal, but I'm not dead yet.)

Same here. Also, last week she was being hit by a rock. I thought medics have good dodging abilities. And it makes me think, how the hell is she going to have a big fight if she can't do the basics such as dodging a rock or a mokuton? It's not like her abilities can grow in one or two days. If she doesn't have the skills right now, it's most likely that she still won't have the skills during this arc. Especially, since this arc is focusing on a day to day basis of the battlefield.

Everything's falling apart in this manga. I can't be bothered with it anymore. I can't handle it.

I'm not even worried about pairing hints or anything. I just don't care for that anymore. If NH happens, fine. If NS happens excellent but at this rate, nothing could cheer me up. I'm truly down guys.

It's time for me to let this stuff go and move on with my life.

Good luck everyone, I hope our pairing comes true but at this rate, I don't think I can stick around for this... sad.gif

Exactly. All that development in the first part of Shippuden is trashed away... Back then she did it with Chiyo's help, now Kakashi's.
It hurts to see Kishi doing this with my fav. character, to be honest...

It looked like she was hit by a rock, but it was just the blast that hit her. Mistranslation and whatnot. Also, she did dodge the wood...thing. There was a little 'dodge' thing above her head.

It seems like she jumped into Kakashi's arm.

For the people saying that Sakura's time to shine is going to come later because she's a main character, and it's the time of side characters, well.....
Naruto is the main character, he's shining.
Sasuke is the main character, he had his time to shine(Kabuto fight)
Kakashi is the main character, he had his time to shine(Vs. Obito)

Sakura is the main character who still hadn't had her time to shine during this war.
And she is still left with healing....

So I'd like to know where you all get that confidence.

I would like to know where people keep thinking that Hinata gets all the "shine" moments when really this is the first major shine moment since the Pein Arc.

Sakura has shined on several more occasions than Hinata has. A lot of times in Part 1. She has shined in the beginning of Shippudden. She has shined with the Sasori fight. She has shined with the Sakura confession and that lasted for a few chapters. (Hey, if Hinata's confession where she just gets knocked out by Pein so easily is Hinata "shining" then I am going to count Sakura's "failed" confession too.)

And Sakura has had her time to shine during the war albeit brief with her punching the Zetsu clone. I thought that was pretty shining and a lot more awesome than Hinata's scene of being a damsel in distress again.

Even the anime made it awesome:

Also, I never said anything about Sakura being the main character or her professional role in the manga. I said that there is a time and place for everything and that Sakura's time to really shine is at a moment where it is most needed. The best time for her to "shine" would be with the Sasuke vs Naruto fight.

The war...I see it being the time when the side characters get the focus and most of the attention. Notice how Kakashi's development disappeared for long periods of time and we got that moment with Obito and then Kakashi fell back behind the curtain.

This is the first time Neji got attention in a long while. So I think he deserves it, but the problem is, as I mentioned waaaay back in chapter 602-603, if you want these characters to gain that development, then you are going to have to shift the focus. You will have to take the camera away from the main cast to give these characters a chance and that's how it has to work.

So like I said, Kishi is getting all this stuff out of the way and letting the other cast to have one last dance in the limelight.
