Will Sasuke end up being redeemed in some way- most likely, but I don't think it will be back in the village with no punishment. Considering what Kishimoto is doing with Sasuke I think two endings are most likely

a- Naruto finally gets through to Sasuke. Sasuke and Naruto take down Madara together, Sasuke sacrificing his life to save Naruto and the world

b-ditto, but both Naruto and Sasuke live. Sasuke refuses to live in the village and becomes a wanderer working toward his own redemption. He does acknowledge the Team 7 bond to both Naruto and Sakura, and basically acts in similar capacity as Jiaraiya- spying for Naruto (as Hokage). He doesn't feel any loyality to Konoha, but does to Naruto, who never gave up caring about him.

I would be pissed if Sasuke even got one tiny piece of redemption. Does anyone actually think that Sasuke deserves to be redeemed after all the crimes he committed? I'm just saying that it would be stupid for Kishi to give him redemption whether he dies or not in my opinion. I believe that it would make more sense if Sasuke died and Naruto failed to save him from the darkness. This is the only goal that Naruto has that I want to see him fail at because it would teach him a lesson that even he can't change and save everyone if a person is unwilling to change or be saved. It's completely idiotic to even want to save someone who is an utterly unlikable emo douche bag. I'm sorry but I just can't see redemption for Sasuke as a plausible outcome. Maybe if Kishimoto actually did a good job at portraying Sasuke as a likable character with redeeming qualities that readers could sympathize with instead of a generic whiny a**hole who can't let go of the past then maybe I could have seen his redemption as a possibility. Unfortunately that is not the case hear.

i really think sasuke is insane right now. meaning hes not thinking at all. he was truly never evil, but once madara told him the truth he fell apart. i think sasuke needs a good talking to.....and the person that can do the favors is zombie itachi >

It's not clear yet whether Sasuke is acting out of his own free will. Don't forget that Karin has pointed out a NEW, dark, cold aura from Sasuke which was not there before (and he was not so psycho then).
If you are taking the one tail influence for forgiving Gaara to attempt to kill Sakura, Naruto and Sasuke (no, he was NOT given orders to kill these three - he went after Sasuke on his own blood lusted moment), then the same argument would be applied to Sasuke.
As I say - Kishi has not push Sasuke over the non-return limit YET. Does not mean that he will not do it, though. Lets see what Sasuke's next move will be when he make appearance during the war.
Don't get me wrong, I'm no fan of Sasuke, but I'm a HUGE fan of Team 7 and of bonds and I side with Naruto here of not giving up on a friend who is in need (even though the crazy guy himself is not aware of it).

Right it's not clear yet, however Kishimoto writes differently I'm going to assume it is his own free will. (Though I must admit that if it wasn't his own free will and the he was under some of genjutsu I would question the author.)

And Gaara's attempt to kill Sasuke, Naruto and Sakura. Hmm let's see. You've been asked to attack Konoha, you failed in that attempt, and now three genin are closing in behind you. What do you do? You get rid of your pursuers. Comparison is invalid.

Insanity doesn't automatically mean he's not responsible for his actions in fiction. He's insane yes, but also amoral, and selfish. If anything, Itachi would be disappointed and pissed at what Sasuke's doing.

Anyway his insanity is only a recent manifestation. I'd honestly say that until the Five Kage Summit, and his fight with Danzo that he was fully aware of what he was doing.

i think he was going insane when he figured out what his brother did for him. afterall thats what he was living for to kill itachi, then figuring out all that. i say it must have busted his brain.

Yes, that's what happened. He went from trying to regain his clan's pride to killing Itachi to destroying Danzo then to razing Konoha to the ground so that the Uchiha's bad name will be erased. That's not exactly nice, is it?

sasuke was never insane at first. he became insane during part 2. so he had nothing to suppress before like gaara has.

I'll give you that one, still, the events after Itachi's death up to his betrayal of Team Hawk has made his only chance for redemption a sacrifice, in my eyes. Or a lifetime stay at Arkham Asylum.

i think of it like this

gaara was crazy to begin with right? then later he became saved (now hes cool)

(sasuke was cool) now sasuke is crazy, and is having his little insane spree now he needs to be saved.

Actually the Kyuubi also refered to Sasuke's chakra being even more evil than his own, that he hadn't seen chakra that dark since Madara.
