:V It's older, but I've removed the series of one-shots I'd originally posted it under, so... everything old is new again? Very mild NaruSaku though.

Somehow, this brought me into the angst/romance mood...

Just annoyed me. The author ignored manga canon. Sakura has already declared her love for Naruto and Kishimoto even firmly stated that she was being 100% truthful in her words and feelings for Naruto. It's tiresome to see so many western narusaku fanfic authors that are bound and determined to still make Sakura the way she acted in this fanfic. If you are going to write a fic that takes place in speculative future canon then stop ignoring what has already happened. Geeze louise even Studio Pierrot is working with that in the latest ending song images, and even more strongly in the OVA short they made recently.
Here is current manga canon that even Studio Pierrot knows on narusaku:
Naruto loves Sakura and Sakura knows it and believes it
Sakura loves Naruto and Naruto knows it and believes it
Sakura in her confession even subtly told Naruto that she wanted to give herself to him...
It's rather frustrating to click on so many stories that are supposed to narusaku- especially ones that work with canon plotlines, and see Sakura being OOC like this or worse. You would think narusaku fans at least would want to follow canon narusaku development rather than writing like they were antinarusaku readers determined to ignore canon fact.
You want drama at this point of ship development- you make the obstacles external, not internal to the relationship development- ala Studio Pierrot's short OVA.

Maa, maa... try not to get too worked up over it. Remember, not everyone has as good an understanding of the human psyche as you or several others here do. They're probably younger writers who just have an idea and go with it.
Whenever I come across a story that starts to irritate me, I just think of that.

That's generally the mindset I go into when reading anything, be it fanfiction or actual novels, so I tend to be a terrible reviewer unable to offer up any useful critique. I just enjoy it for what it is, and I doubt younger writers like hearing critique anyway, preferring to hear praise instead. But then, sometimes I wonder if it's that kind of mindset that keeps fanfiction authors stagnant. Like, I'm a fairly mediocre author at best (even downright terrible at times), but sometimes I do get an inflated ego due to the lack of any critical reviews when I really should be honing my craft

And, btw, what is the OVA ciardha is talking about? Is it a NaruSaku short? Can't believe I missed it

Yep. His statement from the accurate translation of the 2009 Jump Festa was when asked about Sakura's feelings for Naruto in her confession and that some fans thought she was lying- "On the contrary I wrote her as an honest and surprising determined girl." Kishimoto tried to make that clear to all the readers with Sakura's fierce assurance in 470 to Naruto that she is in love with him now. Note, we see by Naruto's face he accepts this in this chapter. Sai in accurate translation of 474, reinforces for the readers that Sakura has moved on from Sasuke to Naruto, and that what Naruto is sensing is Sakura's memories of her feelings for Sasuke. This is reinforced yet again with Sakura's failed attempts to kill Sasuke. Naruto's words and behavior when he rescues Sakura shows he does understand her feelings now, and when we see how he pictures her now- when thinking about how he wishes he could have introduced his age peers to his mother, Sakura is the only one with her full attention on Naruto and she's looking at him in a very open and loving way.
As I said, even Studio Pierrot is showing Sakura being in love with Naruto in the current ending and the short OVA. (and reinforcing in the new part 1 fillers that her feelings for Sasuke were a naive young girl's crush on a boy she didn't really know, and that Sasuke had no feelings for her whatsoever. Note in the recent fillers how they contrast her part 1 fangirly squealing over Sasuke with the part 2 filler episode framing clips of her observing Naruto's antics with subtle smiles and light blushes.

Kungfu and Nick, I have fixed that loose/lose typo. Argh!
And did anyone catch the reference?
"No, I'll be there," Katsuro said firmly. "I'll figure it out somehow... But I'll be there."
She recognized that look of determination. Even in the dim light.
Sakura smiled, doubt wiped away. He meant what he'd said. He'd move heaven and earth to be there.
"Ok," she said simply.
There's another one in the next chapter too!

And yet somehow the truth is the least popular. While there certainly has been a big flux in shipping supporters, I still think it ironic that the one which had the greatest possibility at the very beginning is still pretty detested amongst the majority.

Sorry I got off topic.
Kishimoto's words appears to been enough for the Japanese fans- fan works in Japan done since then are even putting in references to Sakura being pregnant with Naruto being the father of the baby. Studio Pierrot too: Naruto's voice actress even asked Kishimoto for the couple to have a baby so she could do it's voice, and at the end of that short OVA they even had a hat tip to that- with a baby crying at the very end.
It's in the west where even a good chunk of people who call them narusaku fans are still writing fanfics where Sakura is rejecting her romantic feelings for Naruto- something she never did in part 2 (she fully embraced it- even flirting with Naruto within a minute or two of seeing him for the first time in 2 1/2 years. Remember, in manga canon, Naruto was the internal roadblock to their relationship growth in part 2- up to his rescue of Sakura from Sasuke.) , or even at the later of part 1- when she first consciously accepts the beginning of a mutual more than friendship bond.
It gets rather frustrating reading the majority of narusaku fics where Naruto and Sakura are 16 or older and having it be rare for it even to reflect the relationship status of anything past chapter 4! That one was actually better than most- at least it was up to relationship status of part 1's Chunnin exam.

While I agree that Sakura didn't reject her feelings for Naruto, she wasn't open about them either. I honestly think she feels guilty for putting the promise of a lifetime on him, even before Sai's little revelation about Naruto's feelings for her. But I also think that her "love" with Sasuke's memory is another internal roadblock. While not as big as Naruto himself, I do think it adds to part of the problem.
And it's because of this "love" that she can't accurately describe what she is feeling. I think that is the "rejection" that fanfic writers are trying to convey. Sakura's not perfect by any means whatsoever and even though I respect her character, she's an emotional wreck at times a.k.a. Four Tail Kyuubi moment, trying to assassinate Sasuke, etc.
I also think that it was the beginning of the Sasuke retrieval mission that she did see Naruto in a new light. Though I believe it was a very close friendship bond rather than romantic, and it was his absence that probably felt like she needed him.

Sakura subtly told Naruto that she wanted to give herself to him during her confession?

If that's the case then......... that sounds really awesome.

But were exactly is this implied?
Do you have the EVIDENCE to back this claim up?!

I'm not doubting you or anything, I just never noticed anything of that nature from Sakura's confession because I'm not good at human psychology or picking up subtle hints that would imply that Sakura wanted to "give herself" to Naruto, so could you point out where exactly to look or when exactly this happened or something like that? Either through this topic or (to avoid going off topic on this topic) the narusaku debate thread? Unless it's relevant to this topic due to your point about narusaku fans that portray them like there relationship isn't going so well even though the deal is sealed in the Japanese fandom of course.
EDIT: Didn't notice Miss Soupy's post until it was too late. Sorry about that.

I Agree with this, though I too would like to know where I can view this OVA mentioned.
Also Agree with Digifruit about young fanfic writers, not wanting to listen to critique,, Seriously some of the youth today just don't seem to grasp the concept, that constructive criticisim is meant to help you improve, not to insult you.
