Death Note is labelled as shounen - it was even published in Weekly Shounen Jump, just like Naruto - and Light Yagami still doesn't fit into these categories. It's not really a horror story either (and certainly not mecha), rather a crime/mystery mash-up. I still wonder how such a story could get a pass at WSJ lol. 

I don't think light yagami is a hero.
He's more anti hero who became a villain in the end.
He kill rather gracefully lol.

It's a unique shonen manga.

I totally agree, but what I meant is this: it was his story that we were following, so from the literary point of view, he's still the "shounen MC" lol.

At the beginning, yes, but he quickly begins to kill not only criminals, but also those who are "on to something", simply to not get caught, so for me it's killing innocent people. What a great shounen MC, everybody.    he was my fav character though, L can go home

 

You know, I only brought up DN to point out how ridiculous it is that this one Shounen Jump MC isn't allowed to kill (Naruto), while the other (Light) is all about it. Not that I wanted Naruto to kill people, it's just to show the nonsense of this "rule" of shounens and, more importantly, of the stupid genre labellings.

 

Anyway, I actually don't believe the rumors about the low ticket sale. People will go see it, because this time Sasuke clearly has quite a big role.... or does he?

He technically killed Kakuzu twice and arguably Yura as well. Quite a number of characters haven't killed on-screen, though. Ino, Shikamaru, Kiba, Hinata (like she would have the nerve to do so), Lee, Tenten, and our very own Sakura hasn't either unless you count White Zetsu and Juubi fodder. 

 

Kishi seems to have a knack for keeping live flesh and blood humans from fighting each other. If they do, they're oftentimes some kind of genetic mutant who mutilated their body/soul like most of Akatsuki. Notice how the 4th ninja war saw all of the nations being pitted against mutated plant monsters and ash zombies? I doubt that's a mere coincidence. And in spite of the hype at the end of one chapter about the symbolical prodigy of vengeance and murder entering into the fray, bringing with him carnage and destruction, the only killing Sasuke actually did was committed against a ragtag group of White Zetsu. We can't have a wholesale slaughtering of shinobi from every national colour, no. That might actually dampen Naruto's fanciful dreams of a happy reunion with his "best friend" and force him to reconsider the morality in selfishly allowing Sasuke to continue bringing suffering unto others for his vengeance.

Kishi even had Sasuke shown to have taken down a bunch of Oto Chunin in training, but not kill any of them, which Orochimaru questions about, leading to the whole "There's only one person I want to kill" crap.

Not all shonen mc is a hero. Sometime they are anti hero who kill the bad guys.
So while light is shonen mc, it doesn't change the fact that heroic characters (naruto, luffy, ichigo, Kenshin, ryoma, ect) doesn't kill.
That's why some anti hero character have big popularity because cool factor and they could kill the bad guy.
In seinen manga, the hero could kill bad guy.

Most of the deaths were in (non-canon or questionably canon) movies (Frieza in Resurrection of F for canon). Otherwise, in the (canon) series itself, the only enemies I can immediately recall that he actually killed were King Piccolo, Yakon, and Kid Buu. Feel free to add any others I may have missed.

You know that pairing of Goku and Chi Chi sounds very familiar; a thick headed man who has very little social skills, could transform into a giant scary monster of destruction, could eat someone out of house and home, plus always seemed to get stronger after battling someone paired with a strong willed woman who was willing to get dirty to protect those she loved, nor was she afraid to beat up her husband to keep him in check and had quite a temper. I wonder if this is an underlying reason why Kishi didn't pair Naruto and Sakura, seeing Goku and Chi Chi in DragonBall, and he didn't want to 'copy' Toriyama with that end pairing?

I actually forgot about Yura though I think that was a combination of Itachi as well as Naruto. As for Kakazu I thought Kakashi was the one who  killed him.

Kakashi delivered the final killing blow to Kakuzu's last heart, but Naruto, with the half-finished Rasenshuriken, managed to destroy two of Kakuzu's other hearts so one could technically say Naruto "killed" Kakuzu twice. After all, without the Jiongu/Earth Grudge Fear ability that allows Kakuzu to have up to four hearts, he would have been dead already.
