Serious moment here:

I rationalized a bit these last few days (amidst booze and outings with friends) and I've reached the conclusion that my emotional link with Naruto just frizzled out. I hate the movie from the bottom of my heart, and I won't watch it ever (and I'm still not sure if I even want to know what happens in it), it just was the final nail that shut the lid of the coffin for me. 

I'm saddened that all my hype for this manga became disgust, I truly am, and I'm even sadder because I'm realizing I'm stopping to care about it.

Now I can't even read fan fiction, and this saddens me even more; chapter 700 was a joke, a poorly done joke and Naruto: the Last Asspull will probably destroy the whole work for me.

At this point I'd gladly do a damnatio memoriae of this whole sad experience, but I can't, and the only thing that still keeps me linked to this fandom is this forum and its amazing people. Truly, if it wasn't for you I would have cancelled anything Naruto-related from my head and my heart.

This is why I cut ties with the movie and the last two chapters. I say, we are the fans and we are the true blood of Naruto...if we can't get the ending we deserve, then we make the ending we deserve and we make it canon for ourselves. If people have a problem with that, well...as Jack Sparrow would say "You can either accept [that we deny the ending and made it better] or you can't."

We love Naruto too much to let him die this way and to hell with anyone who tells us different. Let them have the crappy movie with the crappy Naruto....my Naruto is powerful, kind, is great to his kids, and is a true hero to everyone. He is happy with the girl he loves, Sakura, who is also the msot successful medic-nin of them all. Not some cheap housewife.

As for Hinata? Well, make her the leader of her clan. A powerful leader at that and let her find love somewhere else. Unless they want her to just be a brainless baby maker. That's fine. Let them have the pathetic Hinata. My Hinata is powerful and is not an obsessed fangirl.

Yeah. That's one of my major fears with the movie, too. It's been what, two weeks now that the chapter came out. I still can't get over what they did to Sakura's character in 699. How can such a strong woman be reduced to a 12-year old fangirl again, easily swayed by a forehead poke that was supposed to belong to Naruto and Sakura. I should be over this. I should be able to come to terms with the ending. But every time I think about how they handled the SS and NS relationships, I just get so frustrated.

 

And your post touches on a big reason why I just can't allow myself to watch that movie.

Nope. I think even Tsunade and the Mizukage are reduced in the last chapter to sitting around, drinking, and letting their skills go to waste. It should have been a huge warning bell for us NS fans when the majority of Sakura's chapters after Naruto and Sasuke got their asspull power ups were about her love for Sasuke.

 

Everyone in 700 just seems miserable.
