I can kinda ship Hide and Kaneki but I won't because their friendship is something rare to find even better than Naruto and Sasuke (it was all for nothing in the end..) Hide, I believe is his most precious person then comes Touka (Touken!!) Trangster said everything so I don't gotta say moreJust curious: What makes you say that? I'm sure it is more than just bias and favoritism.
You know, after having finished TG, I honestly feel conflicted about who is the most important person in Kaneki's life... Hide is Kaneki's true and trustworthy friend, while Touka and he have a lot, lot of chemistry with each other in my opinion. Despite the fact that I ship Touken HARD, I'm not forgetting that they've only known each other for less than a year beforethat heartbreakerKaneki left Anteiku. Remember when Kaneki was remembering all his important people while he was hallucinating when he was tortured? Hide showed up last. Isn't that sort of a hint who is the most important person to him?
Don't get me wrong. I'm not a HideKane shipper as there is nothing more than friendship b/w the two of them; however, I personally am irritated that Ishida decided to put Hide so much into the background. Now that I've finished the manga and reflected back on him, he has become one of my favorite characters of the series. I love his personality and loyalty towards Kaneki; he is an extremely likable character in my opinion.
Touken, of course, possesses one major advantage: They are both ghouls and do not have to hide anything from each other when it comes to anything ghoul related. Eventually, Touka and Kaneki are becoming comfortable with each other and become closer- especially Touka! Maybe what irks me is the time frame in which Touka and Kaneki have worked together in Anteiku that makes me doubt that she is the most important person to him.
But honestly, I don't care who is the most important person to Kaneki. Both characters are focal points in his life and nothing changes that.

I would say that purely because there was a distance between Kaneki and Hide due to not being a part of the same world anymore. I feel like Touka was able to have a better impact because she could get closer to him. Touka's impact on Kaneki was more up close and personal, as they experienced a lot together about the world, but Hide's place was more over Kaneki's shoulder, he was watching and supporting from a little further away.Just curious: What makes you say that? I'm sure it is more than just bias and favoritism.

Oh okay, that makes sense. I was wondering why because Hinami seems to be with them. But then again, Hinami never adapted to human life like Touka did.Oh, haven't seen you in a while ^^
Where exactly are you at right now? It's even more ironic when he allowed a certain other person to join him.
I suppose he did not let Touka join him after he saw how badly she was beaten up by her brother. Next to Hide, she is the last one he wants to get hurt. Touka has finally intergrated herself into the human world and even made an important connection with a human girl, Yoriko. I don't think that Kaneki wants Touka to give up this part of her life- especially if it is b/c of him!
You know if it was a week before I would have flared my nostrils and say that Hide IS the most important person in Kaneki's life. But reading more and more, the chapters make Hide becoming a background character. Like how Krililin became a background character for Goku because their world is SO different.Kaneki is a beast!
It was to protect her and give her a chance to live her life. Had she went with him, she would have had to give up everything she had done up to that point. I would say that she's the most precious person to him, Hide being a very close second.
Now I can't really say who is more important with the two. I still believe it's Hide because their strong desire to protect each other, accept each other has overcome their species differences and that's really big. But on the other hand we have Touka who was with him at the most hardest and suffering times and they SHARE the same struggle as ghouls wanting to adapt to humans. Either way is fine with me though.

Sorry, but Naruto and Sasuke's friendship was never even remotely close or resembling that of Kaneki/Hide.their friendship is something rare to find even better than Naruto and Sasuke (it was all for nothing in the end..)
You say "even better than Naruto and Sasuke" but those two aren't good friendship material in the first place.
Just my opinion.

If I had a like, if give it. Exactly my sentiments. Its really hard to determine who might be more important to Kaneki. I would say though, that if I had to pick a certain point when Touka became more important to him than Hide, even by a hair, it would have been the instant Kaneki refused her plea to go with him. At that point, he fully understood the struggle of a ghoul and tried to keep her from the life he was getting ready to take on, so that she could keep what she had worked so hard to maintain. Uta said it best, she was walking on an extremely thin tightrope, and he put that over himself. In contrast, Hide wasn't distant because of Kaneki's personal choice, he was distances by world barriers that neither he nor Kaneki had control over.
Completely agreed.Sorry, but Naruto and Sasuke's friendship was never even remotely close or resembling that of Kaneki/Hide.

Well, true but you know how everyone is with their bond, but I kinda meant the concept of one trying to help the other, except they sucked at it, look at the ending, everything became right againSorry, but Naruto and Sasuke's friendship was never even remotely close or resembling that of Kaneki/Hide.

This is true. Due to the circumstances, it was impossible for Hide to actually help Kaneki unless the latter one would have tried to reach out to him. Just b/c Touka, however, has supported Kaneki during his worst times (oh well, there are gonna be even worse moments coming up *husk, husk*), doesn't necessarily mean that this relationship has become more important to Kaneki than the one he shared with Hide for years. It's hard to read Kaneki sometimes, quite honestly...
After Kaneki became a half-ghoul, Hide was pushed into the background, but only for the reader's eye. Didn't Kaneki still regularly visit college while he was working at Anteiku? Pretty sure he still hung out with Hide a lot. We have two simultaneous interactions going on: A stable and long-ongoing friendship, and a developing relationship. One of them is just concealed to us readers (ugh), so naturally, many tend to say that Hide's impact on Kaneki's life has diminished over time.

You haven't answered my question at where you at right now, but I suppose it is around the 80 chapters? Did you buy all the volumes up to this point (the covers are awesome, aren't they >_<)?
