I don't think that I've mentioned this before, but I feed some of the feral cats in the neighborhood. Some are less feral than others and will let me get fairly close. Back around the beginning of February, one actually let me pet her so I nabbed her, figuring that she was a stray and that I'd return her to the owner or get her fixed. Nobody claimed her so I brought her to the vet a couple weeks later, but it was too late. She was already preggers and the vet expected her to have kittens in about 3 1/2 to 4 weeks.
5 1/2 weeks later, I brought her back and the vet gave her a X-ray. Turns out that he over-estimated because she's having six kittens. The new estimate was between Friday and Sunday.
She missed the deadline again.
But on Wednesday, she finally had some kittens.
I brought all of them to the vet today and they're all doing fine. Each of them are 4 1/2 ounces. The mother didn't especially like the weighing process because she first had each of her kittens separated from her individually and then was separated from all of them. She was awfully fidgety for the last which made it tough to weigh her. But she's been better behaved about the pet carrier than my other two cats. One is almost impossible to get into the carrier and they're both noisy throughout the whole car ride.
And these other two cats mean that mommy cat and the others are going to be staying in the guest bedroom when I'm not around. They haven't accepted her yet and I doubt they'll like her kittens any better.
Well... according to my own kitty-wife, cats are territorial by nature so it will be quite hard to get your existing cats to accept the new ones. Its not impossible, though, just really hard.

Your link reminds me of this: TO DEVIANT ART!
I have insomnia, but thankfully due to a pre-existing mental condition doctors tend to think that putting me to sleep is the best way to go. Yay sleeping medication. :3

Yeah, I had a bit of trouble when adopting my first two cats and I took them in at the same time. They aren't too accepting of the mommy cat yet and I haven't let them meet the kittens yet.
Speaking of which, I brought them in for their two week exam on Saturday. Four of them have nearly tripled in size - from 4.5 ounces to 13 ounces. The other two are up to 11.5 ounces. They all seem to be doing great, have opened their eyes and are starting to play with each other more persistently. (They had been doing some flailing and swats at each other which might have been play or might have just been spastic twitches, but now, it's definitely play.)
When I got them home, I just left them in the carrier. Ellie brought three back into the box, but then apparently decided not to bother with the rest because when I came back in, she was nursing all six in front of the closet. I don't think that they've gone back into the box, but instead are just crouching along the sides of the box along the flaps.
Last night, I had to vacuum the carpet again because Ellie loves to scatter the litter outside of the box. The first time, the kittens showed no sign of being bothered, but they were in the box, in the closet and nursing. I was hoping to catch them nursing again, but was a bit slow and decided to go ahead with it anyway. They weren't nearly as calm. Most of them staggered to the shelter of the box flaps as fast as they could, but one was a bit further away and nearly jumped to her mother instead. Her shocked expression was priceless and I wish that I had a picture.
I'm half-tempted to vacuum again just to terrify them into more entertaining antics, but I've been strong and resisted the urge. I'm sure that Ellie is going to dump more litter on the floor soon anyway.

I haven't tried too hard to find homes for them yet because they're only two weeks and have a minimum of six more before they can get adopted. But the two males (the gray one and the tan one) are the only two that have been claimed. My neighbor may be interested in a calico and a co-worker seems to be trying to talk herself out of claiming the orange one.
I'll probably be offering to let them go at 8 weeks which is when my vet says that they can go, but I have a book that stresses that they shouldn't be adopted out until at least 12 - 14 weeks. I think that it's mostly for socialization, particularly so that they learn not to bite and if they're adopted out with a sibling, they'll learn from the sibling that biting is bad because they'll get bit back. So I'll be trying to hold onto them for longer, but I'm not sure how well that will work because people will want as much of the really cute time as possible and I may go crazy from having 9 cats in my house.

Just links for the last four.

Am I the only one finding it funnier when reading the comments under the "news piece" and found that most of them are talking down facebook... considering that they are most likely have (and frequented) the website at the top of their bookmark list?
