Oh I know all about Mary Sues, trust me

The Mary Sue / Gary Stu archetype is also often an avatar for the author. I just don't get that vibe coming from Erza. (I get it all the time with Naruto and Ichigo from Bleach...)

Edit: Oh lord, I just checked the date on that fic. Almost ten years ago.

Erza is cool as she is, my only issue with her is that she never looses a battle, ever.

I wish she could be utterly defeated in just one battle, just one would be enough for me. Then she could make some awesome comeback later on. I want to feel unsure of whether she could win or loose a battle but as of now every time she fights I boringly expect her to win. I'm not saying her fights aren't cool, they are, but it would make it more interesting if I was able doubt she could pull it off.

She kind of did get her ass kicked in the Tower of Paradise arc, and needed to be rescued by Natsu....

I kind of want to see her lose another battle too, though.

see thats just my problem with her. she would be cooler if she struggled more often and then when she did win it would look like an effort without all the blood.

It might look like this fight is one-sided right now, but....this is Laxus after all. The impression I got from his first big fight was that he spent WAY too much magic energy on that failed Fairy Law spell. And even after spending all that power, Gajeel still commented on their 2 on 1 fight being a draw. I really want to see much more powerful he is, if that's possible. I can see him managing a victory against the four underlings, and I'm definitely hoping he can beat his old man. I really want the illusion to be dispelled so the whole stadium too see how cowardly the Raven Tail guild is.

Other than that, it looks it's really being foreshadowed that this tournament's going to get interupted somehow. Gray is already thinking of Rufus as the person for him to beat, despite Rufus already appearing in both the competition and battle portions of the Games already. It seemed like all three molding mages commented on his fight, so maybe Lyon and Ultear will get involved somehow too.

Honestly, I don't know how this fight will go. Laxus may be set up to lose, but nobody reading or writing this manga will want him to lose in a cheap way to Raven Tail. At the same time, if Laxus simply blew away Raven Tail, it might come across as a cheap victory that conveniently gets rid of an annoying guild.

As you say, Laxus may do just enough to dispel the illusion and show Raven Tail's true face, getting them banned from the tournament. The problem is probably Obra, as he can cancel magic spells. Of course, there could be a limit to how much he can absorb. If Laxus can overload Obra and dispel the illusion, then that would be a victory for him.

And also, someone speculated that the illusion is an AOE magic. Meaning, it's limited to a certain area, in this case, the stadium. That means Meredy and Ultear will be able to know what's really happening and tell Jellal through Meredy's sensor link. And since Jellal also has a good amount of knowledge about illusion magic, he'll dispel it with Makarov.

That's a very good point about Erza's eye! We haven't seen a single panel of her since the fight began. I don't know about Meredy and Ultear, but it is a possibility, and Jellal did disappear when Lahar showed up for Pandemonium.

If it's someone from Blue Pegasus, the only other known member I can think of is Karen Lillica (Loke and Aries' old master). The problem with that, though, is that she can't really do much without the keys that Lucy currently has. Unless she has some silver keys that rival the gold ones, I don't know why the BP (lol) members would think of her as a 'trump card'.

That's true, I guess it would seem pretty anticlimactic to get rid of Raven Tail already. Hopefully, if the tournament really goes on after this match, Laxus and Ivan get a good fight out of it. Although it would still seem pretty cool to just see the illusion dispelled with a confounded Ivan on the ground, and a bloodied Laxus doing the Fairy Tail hand symbol in the air.

Good call, Codus, I didn't even think of that! I can definitely see Ezra or Crime Sorciere somehow getting involved. The only problem is that they'd be sinking to RT's level, and FT would probably get expelled from the tournament if Laxus' allies couldn't get out of the arena in time. Of course, this also might be shaping up to be last fight in the tournament, so that could be irrelevant.

Not really. Yajima and Laharl was already preparing to disqualify RT if they were found out. Of course, technically it's true FT would be breaking the rules as well, but in this case, it's more like an act of self-defense since RT was cheating from the start. Besides, Laharl has a pretty soft spot for FT so I think he'll be inclined to let FT continue to participate.

also, if this matter with RT gets out of hand, I think we'll see Arcadias start putting his plan into motion, taking advantage of the chaos and kidnap Lucy & Yukino.
