having a republican senate and congress attempting to block every single piece of legislation, as well as spreading basless accusations about your birthplace, and religion will do that for you.

A republican senate? A republican congress...Democrats have the biggest majority they had in years. That's more than when Bush was president, when he was able to do...whatever the hell he wanted to do.

What people are frustrated about is the state of the economy, the unemployment, the deficit, and the war, i mean who gives a crap whether he is a Muslim, or a Jew, or he was born in Kenya, those are just mere distractions, for them to avoid the clear question, that they themselves don't really have a plan either.

I dont care what he is either.

But try telling that to the republicans tea partiers and birthers and every other Kook out there. They keep bringing up his religoon, birth status, and the terrorist/illegal immigrant/black racist/islamic/muslim cultural center boogeyman.

And what I was referring too was the republicans in the house and senate. while the dems have the majority it isnt a fillibuster proof majority.

and the repubs have exploited that to block every single piece of legislation they can. Hell mitch mcconnel said on the record that he wished they could have obstructed more then they had.

John boehners all but said if the republicans gain the house and senate theyll fight every piece of legislation the dems bring tooth and nail, and Michelle Bachmans stated flat out that if the repubs win the house and senate that they will launch multiple probes into president Obama.

the repubs have literally promised to gridlock congress and the senate on crap they didnt pull when Bill Clinton was in charge.

And they freaking impeached him.

Im sick and tired of this divisive B**L S**T. this party of fing NO has gotten out fo hand. they no longer represent the middle class ((not that they ever really did, But at least under Eisenhower they pretended to care)) and only represent the rich.

their tax cuts have bankrupted the country and they want to extend the freaking things thinking that they pay for themselves. They want to privatize social security and put ti in the hands of the very wall street execs who are responsible for the financial meltdown were in the middle of in the first place.

A move which by the way a certian republican in a letter said was and I quote " A stupid idea and anyone who supported getting rid of social security was an idiot and would last long."

That republican was Ike Eisenhower.

Im sick of hearing about the boogeyman, im sick of hearing about how the president is a socialist/nazi/muslim etcetcetc. The disrespect for this president is staggering and hes barely been in office a year in which hes been obstructed by republicans at every turn.

Now hes got the hypocrites in the tea party ((who are supported by the Koch brothers Rich petroleum industrialists go figure)) and republicans spewing the same crap out the wrong hole.

Well Im voting dem this year all across the board and I sincerely hope I can get everyone else to do the same. If we can give the pres a fillibuster proof majority in congress and the senate we might actually get work done this year.

We might actually move forward from the utterl and completely failed republicna policies that have buried the middle class in poverty for the last 8 years and have cost us millions of jobs to over seas interests and big business greed.

Catsi, can you post something without being a disrespectful basher? Seriously, quit the whining and blatant bashing of people you don't agree with and actually try to post your opinion in a mature way for once. In case you didn't know, there are rules for this thread and they are quite clear.

QUOTE (Sakura Blossoms @ Nov 6 2008, 07:12 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
As the title says, this thread is for all things political, from any country in the world. Key things to note about this thread:

1). There will be absolutely NO bashing of ANY political party, the politicians of any political party, or any member who is part of said political party.

This isn't a thread for you to vent your hatred towards anyone. If you can't reign in your feelings and post in a responsible way, I'd say you are better off not posting about politics at all.

This has nothing to do with party, but how you are coming off. Anyone could be offended by your posts. Look at your last line alone, it is bashing and the rules clearly say not to do it.

Perhaps my biggest gripe is that lose your temper and devolve into profanity when people criticize Obama (this is the second you've done that), but have no issue taking consistent cheap shotsat others who you don't like. You talk about others not being able to take the heat when you've had your own issues doing so.

Obama HAD a filibuster proof majority from the time Franken was sworn in to the time until Brown was sworn in. If his own party has consistently held firm the Republicans couldn't have done anything about it. He lost the filibuster proof majority when the Democrats couldn't hold Kennedy's old seat to a guy promising to vote against much of Obama's agenda in a Blue state.

Im afraid Nate that only proves my point.

when he had the majority they they were able to pass the stimulus and health care. with out that majority the republicans have blocked everything from 9/11 benefits, to unemployment benefits, to the republicans own bloody job bill.

You know the one, the one they proposed that cut taxes on small business, eased restrictions on banks lending to small business so they could hire more people, thus creating new jobs, and the one that had full democratic support.

And they block it from even being debated?????? Their own bill????? And they wanted to block more and obstruct more?????

And were supposed to believe these people have our best interests at heart?

Yeah right. If you can find John Boehner on the golf course let him know I want my money back since hes playing golf on my dime.

And to clarify it isnt the criticism of Obama that annoys me. Its the fact that thats elf same criticism is baseless and disregards the facts. I have yet to see anyone provide an argument that he has failed that wasnt based on republican party obstruction.

Well what do you expect, is two different philosophies, of course they're going to be obstructive to each other, maybe for you the GOP doesn't have your best interest at heart, and the same goes to me, i don't trust Republicans to come up with a solution, they had their chance, but i don't trust Democrats to have either. The lesser of 2 evils doesn't make a good, and the enemy of my enemy isn't my friend.

And regarding your previous post, is not that he has tried to fight the neoconservative ideologue's that earns him my criticism, it is that he has joined forces with those ideas, while paying lip service to his base. Eg. GITMO, The Afghan war, the Patriot Act, the arresting of whistle blowers without trial and appeal, and the bailouts for large corporations. We cannot claim the healthcare bill will work, because it hasn't gone into effect yet. The Stimulus Plan was supposed to keep unemployment at 8%, but is 9.5%, while real unemployment is in the double digits, and now they are words that we might be heading into a double dip recession, in other words a Great Depression type economy.

So yes there is a lot to criticize Obama about since its been 2 years into his administration already.

But thats just it Strange. They were NEVER this obstructive even under Clinton. And they were trying to impeahc him. Even with Newt Gingrich as majority leader the republicans actually were working under Clinton.

But Now not only have they obstructed President Obama at every turn, theyve made no secret that they intend to continue to do so, and wish they could have obstructed more. Theyve admitted to blocking the government and have even stated flat out that if they gain control of congress not only will they prevent president Obama from getting any legislation done but they intend to bog down congress and the senate with multiple subpeonas none fo which ahve any merit what so ever. But theyre gonna do it anyways, as they stated that their intent is to go after President Obama with everything they have.

I have no idea where this obstructionest agenda has come from. They used to be a voice for moderation, one i didnt allways agree with but at leats i could understand their position. I cannot reconcile this party with the one who worked under Reagan and Clinton.

Now as to your points. Gitmo hes closed to much conservative dismay

Afghanistan hes moving forward as best he can in that quagmire which a prior administration started. hes finally gotten combat troops out of Iraq and Afghanistan is next.

The Bailouts for large corps came under Bush so hes not even remotely responsible for those save for the ones for the auto industry (not happy about those myself ill grant but better then the alternative))

The Health care bill was at leasta start but your right well see how it goes.

And as to the stimulus bill we jsut had Shauna post a very concise article about it and the fact that its created many new jobs and is on the way to creating more. Also as part of the stimulus it saves millions of teachers, fire fighters and Policemen from the unemployment lines where thye would have been if republicans had had their way since they opposed the stimulus which included money sent to state goverments for exactly that purpose.

Thats one thing that really honks me off, talk about hypocracy. All the crying and complaining about the federal government sticking its nose into state business while the govenors who do the complaining pocket the stimulus funds and keep their jobs as well as the jobs of the civil servants they would have to cut if they didnt have the money in the first place.

The Stimulus package is a slow mover but it is moving forward. And its a darned step in the right direction better then the republican ideas on the subject which involve more tax cuts for the rich, retaining tax cuts which appareantly according to mitch mcconnel pay for themselves somehow, but which in realit will add 3.5 trillion to the defecit next year. And putting less restrictions on the same big business interests which shipped all the jobs over seas and laid off people by the boat load in the first place resulting in the unemployemnt rate we now face.

As a side note the double dip isnt happening they had a scare but it ended with the market actually ending on a positive note.

The impeachment of Clinton was merely political, and yes Clinton was obstructed, remember Hillary Care?

It is because of that slow movement that it fails, slow recoveries are usually trumped by second recessions, if you understand economies, there will always be a recession every 7 - 8 years, and if the economic growth begins to slump through the recovery, then a Depression will usually follow. The Great Depression was really 2 recessions, and if you look put the US GDP growth during the Depression, you will notice is a W and not a U.

You may hate the rich, but they are the real backbone to the US economy. Since a small retailer by the street isn't going to hire as many people as the Walmart down the block, it would make sense to sacrifice the small retail store than to sacrifice a multinational chain. Cruel, i know but that's just how it is.

The jobs being shipped over seas are jobs that require low skill labor, and very little regulation. We live in a world economy, it is no longer lollipops and rainbows.
1. Eliminate its income tax
2. Get rid of the minimum wage
3. Get rid of welfare and retirement benefits.
4. Force other nations to imply minimum wage laws, and income tax laws. Or else...

then you may want to vote for the tea partiers this year because thats exactly what they want to do. David Koch senior ran as an Independant against Reagan on a party platform that included abolishing public schools, the FBI, Social Security, Unemployment, minimum wage, workers comp, and worker protection laws.

His sons are both throwing billions of dollars into the same agenda which has nothing to do with supporting the conservative agenda, but in fact supports their corporate agenda instead.

John Boehnner right now is calling for the same things. they want to cut Social security saying it will bankrupt the country. this is completely ridiculous and factually inncorrect. Social Security in fact is solvent far into the future, and even after it runs out of money will be able to pay a portion of benefits to retirees for decades after that.

Now on one case I dont hate the rich. Hell i wouldnt mind being rich not that id need much to retire with mind you.

What i hate is the sense of entitlement that the rich have the notion that they can do anything they want and the rest of us can just go f-off. People like the Koch brothers and senior who made their fortunes on the backs, blood, sweat and tears of poor people, and who then proceed to screw those self same people in the name of trying to get more.

What is more? how much more do you really need? look at your family and calculate how much youd need to live comfortably would you really need millions and billions of dollars? and how many people would you kill to get it. how many people would you reduce to poverty and starvation to insure you could lie in a 20 bedroom mansion with a yahct and a plane etc etc.

Because thats what these guys are doing. In an age when we cant even eat eggs because of salmonela poisoning brought on by corporate greed. these guys want to eliminate MORE government controls.

so you say its not a world where corps can jsut do what they want? go to the store and buy some eggs then. Ill save some space in the ER for you.

Which by the way if the republicans have their way you wont be able to afford since all health care would be privatized and insurance companies would be able to charge what ever they want when they want.

As to getting rid of retirement benefits and social security. Guess what Itll never happen. Tell several hundred million retirees that instead of receiving their retirement benefits that they instead have to go back to work untill they die. Or that their benefits are now wholey in the hands of the same wall street execs which made this mess in the first place. That their check each month is dependant on whether the stock market tanks or has a bad month.

Theyll laugh first before they run you off with their canes. Getting rid of social security is a bad idea and a stupid one, and anyone that supports it is stupid.

Oh and by the way thats not bashing thats a direct quote from a republican in a letter to one of his brother. Want to know who?

Ike Eisenhower.

QUOTE
"Should any political party attempt to abolish social security, unemployment insurance, and eliminate labor laws and farm programs, you would not hear of that party again in our political history. There is a tiny splinter group, of course, that believes that you can do these things. Among them are a few Texas oil millionaires, and an occasional politician or businessman from other areas. Their number is negligible and they are stupid."

President Dwight D. Eisenhower, l952-----

Eliminate Income tax never happen either. Why? because it would eliminate all public services. want police in your town? want a fire department? that coems from Income taxes. So do roads, ambulances, street lights, schools, and ahost of other services.

Want a fun notion? imagine the first thing the 911 operators asks you after you call them for is a credit card number. think it cant happen? Eliminate Income taxes, and it will. Police and fire departments will be forced to go from paid public servants to corporate entities, theyll have to. And you will have to pay for their protection. youll ahve to buy yourself a corporate contract that insures that your house is under their umbrella.

Get rid of minimum wage hell no. Thats one fo the worst ideas in the history of bad ideas. Without the minimum wage corporations could not only pay whatever they wanted for any job, but could in fact charge you for working there.

think that cant happen? Guess what it allready did. Ask some old miners about it. Theirs an old song called 16 tons that sings it best. The lyric goes

QUOTE
You load sixteen tons, what do you get
Another day older and deeper in debt
Saint Peter don't you call me 'cause I can't go
I owe my soul to the company store

And it was based on fact. the corporate store would charge such ridiculous prices that Miners would have to take the stores credit instead since their salaries werent enough to pay both mortgages and rents and the bills of the store. hence the miners were in cosntant debt to the mines owners and had to work in dangerous conditions just to pay back the debt.

Heck there are miners in Chile are in the trouble their in because of that same greed. The mine owners were supposed to install an escape ladder. They never did. if they had then the miners would have been out fo there in 8 hours tops. Instead they have to live the next 4 months in filth and tight spaces because of greed.

Not to mention that getting rid of the minimum wage also implies getting rid fo child labor laws. the oens that protect teenagers and Preteens from being exploited by coporate agencies and being forced to work absurd hours for no pay at all or minimal pay.

As to the analogy of the small retailer well i disagree. while the smaller retailer may not be abel to hire as many. They can hire people.

Small business is at the core of the american economy. This is also a direct quote from the republican party. Its been one of their core principles for decades. Which is why I find their hypocrisy on the issue so infuriating. Their blocking of their own measure which would have helped small businesses was a ridiculous political stunt.

Theirequally ridiculous notion that tax cuts for the top 5 % of americans would invigorate the economy is equally ridiculous. How is someone rich going to support the economy? all their moneys n the bank. it isnt going out into the economy. I sure as heck havent seen a penny of it.

The economy is You and Me. Little people like us. we are the economy. When are money is spent the economy rolls. when we dont spend the economy tanks. When Paris hilton dpesnt spend her vacations her ein America No one gives a flying whoopety do.

But when thousands of americans go spend their vacations here in america They cheer because the economy keeps rolling.

Interesting. theyve needed a broader framework of laws regarding copyright and patent, and intellectual property infrignment for a while especially given the proliferation of hackers and internet pirates.

But a couple of things do worry me. the secrecy behind the negotiations is bothersome, and there are some privacy and concerns regarding free expression.

Uh......what'd I miss? Besides a rant?

Anyway......Hey, who wants to know how much the tax code sucks?

The reason the tax code is the mess that it is (and a big reason why the immigration code is a mess as well) is because tax law is Congress's greatest vehicle for social engineering.

yep very true. the tax codes a dinosaur of redtape and bureaucracy that needs to be trimmed down to a phone book from the library it currently is. The immigration codes are worse off and theyre even easier to fix.
