The Lego Movie 8/10

I thought the movie was hilarious. Comedies normally have the problem that all the funny moments are in the preview and that is all that it is. Then there is always the predictable serious moment where it pretends to have a plot. I though this was funny from beginning to end and its best jokes weren't in the preview. Even during the serious moments they were cracking funny jokes. I can't recall the last time I saw so many creative way to call someone dumb.

The Lego movie was seriously good. I caught myself watching it a few times already and it still brings out the laugh. Its probably because it brings a fresh new attempt in comedy and its effective use of visual comedy.

Frozen 8/10

Great movie, I think it's oversold when called the best animated movie of all time. I think Finding Nemo and Cars 1 are better, but it's very good. The only part I didn't like was Hans. Without spoilng it, what he did made no sense and was completely out of left field. I also hated the snowman because he didn't do anything. Usually the comic relief is better integrated than that.

I watched it the other night. I didn't recognize very many funny moments. I might give it another shot because I think I was distracted and really impressed by the animation and wondered how much was practical and how much was cgi. If it was all cgi I still wondered how easy or difficult it was to render all those blocks.

I agree, the Hans thing was kind of like whaaaa? I like it as a bold choice for not going down the same road as the other Disney Princesses where they fall in love quickly over montage and are soul mates, but yeah, it wasn't fully realized. And while I didn't find Olaf annoying, I had never noticed that he wasn't integral to the plot until you pointed it out.

Gonna do it... going to go see Bayformers tonight...

The lego movie animation was very impressive. Like you, I was also distracted by the animations and the amount of time they spent with the stop-motion thing. Yeah, give it another shot chouzu and you would get the jokes

Supposedly the Hans thing happened because a portion of the plot (a prophecy) was moved and its removal totally messed with Hans's original motivation for what he did to Elsa so they needed another reason to get Hans raise the Sword, and used that. It was totally at odds with his character to that point, there is no set, no foreshadowing, it bypasses Weselton who'd have made more sense.

I'm totally fine with them not taking they typical princess route. I like that part about the movie, but Hans made no sense and I couldn't figure Olaf out other than as a token kids character. Hell, even Jar Jar Binks got to do stuff. I'd have been fine with Olaf if he was better integrated. I'd still recommend the movie I just can't rate over Nemo and Cars one because of those things.

Josh Gad discusses Olaf in this video and gives a pretty good explanation at around 1:17. I would watch the whole interview, it's a good one.

Transformers: Age of Extinction 5/10

The only redeeming qualities to the film are the action and the still somewhat bland but at least more likable characters (or maybe it's just the lack of annoying caricatures). Tucci is less annoying than Turturro.

I've never sworn so much in my head at a movie before. So many illogical things. Seriously... The only reason I went to see it tonight is because sometimes  I get away with student pricing on Thursdays which is $5.

Dawn of the Planet of the Apes 10 out of 10 (5 out of 5 by my rating)

Here are some excerpts from my review

"Dawn" is such an impressive movie because it is able to elevate a sci-fi/post apocalyptic movie into a political thriller and an examination of themes like peace, war, hatred and loyalty. These aspects give so much depth to a story which is filled with tragedy and emotion.
---

It's such a good performance that the argument can be made to nominate Serkis for an Oscar because of his acting through motion capture technology. Serkis translates Caesar's anger, grief, sadness and happiness all very well to make one of the most compelling characters in the last few years.
---

"Dawn of the Planet of the Apes" is more than everything you want in a summer film. Not only is it a well made action film, it is captivating in its themes and becomes a heartbreaking tragedy. This one deserves a look during award season.

Dawn of the Planet of the Apes 9/10

I really like watching the history of this planet unfold. They really give us time to connect with the Apes before introducing the humans, making their struggles and reasons clearer. Taking place 10 years after the first film, the core of the film is the question, once given reason and logic, what makes humans different from apes? It's like watching our own history unfold, like they're tricking us into watching the history of Julius Caesar. How does it stack against the first film? I'd say it's right on par. Both films are a great character study on physicality for all actors. My only gripe is the same one I had with the first one, most of the film is so consistently good, especially the hand signed sections or quieter sections that unnatural dialogue pops up it's like a giant nose-sized zit on a super model's face. Well... it might not be that bad, it might just be made worse by the fact that the film doesn't have the usual amount of dialogue you would find in a movie. It isn't as bad as the first film in terms of the amount of unnatural dialogue but it does have it's small pockets here and there. But overall it's quite a good movie, which holds itself above summer movie standards.

Grand Budapest Hotel

8.7/10

I also liked the movie, although the plot kinda petered out by the end, the acting and quirky cinematography was really evocative. The way W.Anderson shot the movie made it feel like a fairytale.

My movie that I last saw, that was new, was "Anna Karenina" with Kate Winslet - 7/10

I really liked the way it was shot by creating a world within a theatre rather than using a "faux 19th century Russian" large set. This really underlined the theatrical mood of the book the way Tolstoy wanted it to be felt. I felt however, that a lot of plots underlining the story were weakly portrayed and that the ending felt extremely rushed. Kate Winslet really delivered a performance in this one too.

Recently watched My week with Marilyn 6/10

Michelle Williams and Kenneth Branagh each gives a standout performance as Marilyn Monroe and Laurence Olivier respectively. Michelle Williams really carry herself as Marilyn with her manner of speech and body language.

Amber Alert 3/10

They have a camera, people talk, and their heart was in the right place, but this is awful. The premise is interesting enough, while on a highway a trio stumble upon a car in its exact description in an amber alert, and choose to follow it in case they can take some action until they are assured police have taken action. The problem with the film is it's one flimsy thread after another from how unexpectedly hostile the girlfriend is to how apathetic the boyfriend is at times. Unfortunately I hope most of the dialogue is improvised, because it is terribly written. There are a million moments when the boyfriend has a point and the girlfriend just ignores him and he never asks her why. In fact that's the hugest mistake in this movie, there is no "why" there's no rhyme or reason to how escalated they become with each other, it's almost as if they're total strangers because they treat each other like complete crap and it comes out of left field. Awful.

The King of Fighters 1/10- I was going to give it 0.1 but tonight I'm feeling generous. This movie is SO horrible it gave me cancer dear Lord OOC characters that absolutely looks NOTHING like the characters from the game, the plot which also has nothing to do with the game. I was bore so I felt like watching it, big mistake. Know this all movies based on famous video games and anime WILL ALWAYS suck. I just love how Hollywood keeps killing all these games and series with their sh*tty movies. The only who would dare like this movie is if he has never play King of Fighters before. It just horrible.

The Purge 2- 9/10. There were lots of OMG scenes that were entertaining. I also liked how even though it was centered around a group, there were still scenes of what was happening to other people and how others were going about with their killings.

The Heat- 9/10 It was hilarious. It's also they type of movie I can re-watch several times and still enjoy.

Pirates of the Caribbean: 8/10

It is pretty good! I like how it brings back and reuses the old tropes of adventure movies in a pirate setting. By doing this, the movie reminds us all what it was fun and thrilling about those stories.

Starship Troopers invasion 8/10- aside from been a CGI movie its the best movie of the series, second place goes to the first movie.

Space Pirate Harlock 9/10- another CGI movie and this one really blew me away. Based on the famous manga and anime its really worth watching bringing back the nostalgic feeling.

8.5/10: Guardian of the Galaxy

Best movie of 2014 (at least so far) in my opinion.

A pretty funny movie with great characters and some nice fighting. Has a great ending too. It is also a build-up for the 2nd movie that has already been confirmed to be made. I can't wait for it to come out because of reasons that I won't mention for spoilers, but just thinking about the potential the 2nd movie has makes me so pumped. ^^

Chris Pratt did an amazing job in this movie. He got very fit for this role, so he won't be like that chubby guy from Parks and Recreation. From what I've been hearing. Women are fangirling all over that guy now. So if you're going to get into this movie series, just be ready for the wave of girls screaming for the main guy. Happens in every superhero movie now. :P

Chris Pratt fangirling

I'm really happy he found something else to do. Parks and Recreation final season is coming soon, so I don't want this guys career to dry up. He is definitely a top 3 favorite character for me in that show. :)
