I'm wondering Darkness, why you do not like this idea? Actually I've seen the argument that people see the って from Naruto as potentially being some sort of negative or "joking" jab at Sakura's confession, which of course isn't the case (I just saw this as generally the case). The argument saying that Naruto brought it up (her confession) to "paraphrase it" with heavy implication that he is joking with her (due to the next chapter I believe). But this is an argument that has no backing in it whatsoever. I think that it is okay that people believe that Naruto may have said it in reference to her past confession, I see it as something possible because the sentence left that part ambiguous. But for him to use it as something negative is taking things out of context.
I do stand by my translation as only being "Well, something like that..." but I can offer another viewpoint of the scene that I think is a lot more smoother than "quoting" Sakura. More...natural? I really like this best, but if someone was to ask me to add the "tte" into my translation for this scene specifically, I would use the translation above. I would not use "she said/ it is said/ etc."

Well, you can say it is something like that.
and of course the it is referencing Minato's girlfriend comment. I'm okay with this translation as well. And in this case it is more direct like "Yes you can say that she is my girlfriend" as opposed to the very indirect "Yes it was said that she's something like my girlfriend" hahaha, sorry if I'm not making any sense I'm trying to explain it best as possible. Really I think it all means the same thing, it's hard to twist it to make some other meaning. I think it's something really simple as this and nothing intricate.
Clearly the scene is very NaruSaku!
Hey Megi, I really appreciate your further clarification. I agree with you, this is a very simplistic scene and it really has nothing much to analyze, but It looks like I got caught
into the trend.
The reason I don't like it is because the first time I've seen a discussion about this very scene, people were doing exactly what you've pointed out: using the "って" to distort Naruto's words into something completely different from what I've read, changing his answer in order to favor their own personal preference and heavily implying he was joking and possibly even trying to get back on Sakura for her earlier confession.
Despite the person who offered the Japanese translation have made it very clear it was an ambiguous quote, people were celebrating victory like if the one possibility they think was best were the right one and the only possible way of interpreting the scene.
The quote interpretation creates the possibility for people to distort the scene in an unacceptable way and that's what I don't like about it. It is so clear that Naruto loves Sakura and this is the sole main reason he answered yes. Naruto didn't need to quote Sakura to do that, he did not have to hear it first in order to say it to his father like some sort of monkey. Saying that Naruto only answered yes out of naiveness (because Sakura said it to him) or for joking purposes is the perfect example of denying logic, common sense and context.
In the end I completely agree with your translation and there's no doubt about it, that scene was a NS moment.
Anyway I've tried to make my PoV as clear as possible... hope to have succeeded in that. Nonetheless, I think we've squeezed too much out of this scene already. Sigh ~.

But any parallel that may happen, I can't see being anything less than in NaruSaku's favor.
So, this is like a way of saying NaruSaku is...toast? I admit, I don't find it terribly clever, it's kind of funny actually because it so silly, either anti's are losing their touch, or I'm really just that unaffected by what they come up with.
