I wonder how many people have stopped watching manga in general due to the shock from NARUTO.
My ex-best friend told me he doesn't want to have anything to do with Japanese culture after the NARUTO ending. I guess for some people the shock are bigger than others.

It's a pity though because I'd say NARUTO would be ranked very bad in terms of quality of story in comparison to the others.

I still read some of my favourites like Rurouni Kenshin, Inuyasha, and Dragonball. Actually, the latter remains a prominent source of discussion since new material is being released and old arguments or hypotheticals come up like "was Gohan SSJ or SSJ2 against Dabura" or "could fusion/Kaioken have allowed the humans/Piccolo to remain relevant past the Frieza saga". It's actually quite a bit of fun to discuss how characters would measure up under those circumstances. Better than trying to defend a decadent old farce like Naruto.

I wonder if any of this has to do with whether or not Naruto was the first manga/anime they were exposed to. I would imagine that if it was, your reaction might be more drastic. For me, I had read and watched a significant number of anime and manga before coming to Naruto even though I started following it about from the outset. So for me, even though I'm really disappointed by its ending, I have a number of other shows and manga I can point to as great examples of the art.

Living in Japan sucks because of the constant advertisement of NARUTO in bookstores. I don't even want to SEE it. Even on the counter they have the products.

I'm glad Naruto wasnt my introduction to anime.

Before it I watched good quality series like Inuyasha, ranma 1/2 and DBZ

Thank God

Btw DBZ is coming to USA though in summer with Dub. I wonder who's more dedicated: The Last or DBZ.

Or just start over from Pain Arc and up with a writer that cares. That's my wish.

Yeah, they advertised about everything in there from what I heard. Speaking of ads, I don't know those ads played it on TV but the ones for TG Manga is awesome.

I saw plenty of anime before Naruto. Granted, it was indeed the first manga that I read, before that I was usually more into just seeing the anime.

I don't get stuck on many works, despite seeing many, there are some that stick to my heart and make it great not because of how awesome fights they had or stuff like that but because of the core feeling that it gives me. Sailor Moon was the very first anime that got stuck into my heart the way that Naruto did. With Sailor Moon I still have nice memories whereas with Naruto sadly, it became my worst nightmare.

I wish I could go back in time, tbh... and save myself the pain.

To the story, you mean? Well I have heard some gripes about RoF discarding the old established conditions about Shenron like his ability to resurrect in only a year's time, the fact that Dende enabled him to grant two wishes instead of one, and that Frieza is unnaturally resilient to the extent that he can survive as mutilated pieces of a body (you would have to read the manga adaptation to understand this part though). Still, it's nothing compared to the inconsistencies seen in TL.

Naruto was my opener for anime, but DBZ came first. I just didn't explore it more because it was the young age where Internet was still new, so no research on any other series. I had to rely on Toonami. Naruto came around the time where Internet was growing strong, so that's why it is said to be the gateway for anime/manga.

I mean the fact they're going to do English dub already. Unlike The Last, they just leave it alone with subtitles. Anyway, well I do have to read the special chapters, but yeah, I see what you mean more or less.

I saw many of them when I was little. I grew up with anime and Cartoon Networks, literally. I am not ashamed to admit that anime shaped a lot of me, tbh. It was what helped me go through life when things weren't exactly okay... And probably that's what happened with Naruto, too... at the time I started watching it I was going for what represents for me even today the darkest times of my life...

:pimp:

It looks horrible from the stuff I've seen in tumblr. EVERYWHERE The Last advertisement during the time the movie came out... Can you imagine that :twitch:?!That's like seeing 50 ads for 50 shades of grey every few miles :twitch:

That's a good question. Honestly, if I hadn't had OP at the time, I might have just lost faith entirely. It hurt a lot to have characters that once meant so much to me become complete and total strangers to me and become irreparably broken beyond recognition. Naruto and Sakura were two of my favorite characters all time, second to Luffy and Nami. At the time, Naruto was my second favorite manga, but it kinda got to the point where the manga was dragging, and a large part of me read the manga partially because it was a way to waste time before Mangapanda put out the OP chapter. After the ending, it was OP that kept me afloat, and the combination of OP and TG that acted kind of like therapy to me and helped heal the wounds. Had it not been for OP, I might not have even started TG because of the letdown.

I think a part of the reason that some mighty have dropped manga completely is that we don't have the exposure to manga culture that people in Japan do? Overseas, Naruto seemed to be lauded as one of the pillars of Japanese manga, and with such a reputation, it might be mistaken by some that the popularity reflects the actual quality of the story telling. So in a sense, because we're not so ingrained in the culture, some might be led to believe that Naruto is not only a pillar in manga, but also a model of how a manga should be written (due to its success). With that, they might mistakenly believe that the ending might be a common type of ending in most manga, which probably isn't the case.
