Lol I never said they weren't. They are one and the same. And Deku has that. But what he doesn't have is a grasp of his quirk. And considering that he hasn't had much time to learn how to use it unlike Shouto or Bakugou, it's kind of unfair, and quite early, for him to win victories against the likes of them. He may have worked his ass off, but it still isn't enough. Also considering that Todoroki is probably just as smart as Deku, he's going to need more than just his logic to win against him.

You said that they only thing that he had going for him was his wits, then you turned right around and said that he needed logic, among other things that Shouto had, thus implying they were separate. Also, he has had an adequate amount of time, there was a large timeskip after the villains attacked, he knows how to use his quirk just fine, we just haven't seen him in combat with it. He specifically said that he was saving it and has gone out of his way to avoid using it, the exception being in the first round of the tournament.

With translation, it went even worst. Deku broke his arm and his fist, and still use it, his solely chance is Todoroki's pride. Yeah, good choise in a fight, to count on. If he will win by it, Todoroki will greatly fail and will get a turn into darker character, he's not like Bakugou.

It was obvious, that Deku will somehow get this temperature problem of his, but to call for hi arrogance, I didn't expect that 

  
I was specifically talking about the arrogance though. I had thought something of it in passing, but I'm happy it came up just because that adds a new layer of his character that Shouto is going to have to overcome. Sure he has his goal, but it's he's never truly going to be able to show respect to the people around him if he acts like they're only worth half his power.

You completely misunderstood my words if you read it like that. I just used separate words is all. I never implied that Deku never had wits. I just said that he needs more than that to defeat Todoroki. 

 

Came back from reading the latest chapter. And turns out I was right- Todoroki does have more ability than Midoriya. Regardless, Midoriya is still putting up a good fight. His expressions were awesome. I still believe that he's going to exert himself before defeating Todoroki. 

 

However, there's always that chance that Todoroki will withdrawal before he uses his fire half to defeat Deku. Or, he could be lost in his own determination to win that he'll use it and destroy Deku in one shot. I don't think he's arrogant at all. I just think he didn't calculate what other people were doing compared to him- which in return makes him somewhat weaker.

He's arrogant because in his mind he had offhandedly equated everyone around him as only worth half of his power in the face of his goal. He might not have meant it, but it is still arrogance.

That's what wrong, Shouto don't see it as half of his power, he truly think that Ice is his power only. Fire is his fathar power, so it's like [Ice] = 1, [Fire] = 1, [Ice+Fire] = 2. Deku only pushin his luck with provoking.

Shouto does see it is half of his power, as he's consciously making use of only half of his power. He resents the other half of his power and resents his father. What he probably wasn't aware of was the effect that train of thought has on the people around him, which is going to play into his dilemma.

I gotta agree with both you and NarutoUzumaki01 on this one. He didn't see it as only half his power- he thought that it could be his full power like his mom's. But it seems Deku is smarter than him, and he realized instantly that his ice power was only half of his potential, and couldn't convert to his full power.. So when you look at it in a different perspective- both Deku and Todoroki are only using a small portion of their quirks- which is why they are alike.

 

So Todoroki's views on the matter are not based on arrogance or pride, but misguided narcissism. He thought too fully of his ice powers that he forgot to look at himself as a "whole". He saw that everybody only had one quirk that he didn't take time to realize that they are training their full selves, unlike him.   

 

In other words, he's gonna use his fire powers sooner or later

I always enjoy your commentary. Just remember that I always wasn't right either: I thought Ochako was going to win. But I'll admit that was completely out of bias and generic shounen stereotypes of the underdog winning. But like you said, the fight is off to a good start. Both have the potential to win.

That's not narcissism at all though...

You can be arrogant, but it can come as a result of not thinking something through, you can subconsciously assign more value to yourself than you're actually worth. Arrogance is a function of being conceited, which Shouto's line of thought is.

Arrogance is the belief that you are better than someone on virtue of being you. It doesn't have to be a predominant thought though. I would say that there are two types of arrogance, Bakugou and Shouto. Bakugou believes he's the best for no reason at all, he's outwardly arrogant and knows it. Shouto is arrogant subconsciously, he had to be told his line of though was arrogant; his type of arrogance was a result of him not thinking all the way through his plan/goal.

Narcissism is extreme self interest in yourself, based on physical appearance or vanity, basically someone that enjoys how they look a little too much.
