*nodsnods*
I've never understood the Rinoa hate. It always seemed as silly and pointless to me as the Sakura hate.

Same. It was a good game. It's main problem was that the junction system was completely and utterly broken.
I hated 8. You site one reason why. When it came out they all knew each other from the past...that annoyed the hell out of me.

That was not so much different from 7.
Cloud ended up knowing everyone from the past, but his mind was manipulated by Sephiroth. Everything else fell into play.
At least it wasn't like Final Fantasy 10 where Tidus was not real, but a dream a god made up.

I had no problems with the story itself, but there were so many mechanical issues with VIII that made it my least favorite of the FFs.
That said, I've played XIII for a bit at Gamestop. It's... so linear. Things would've likely been different if I was playing at home, but I actually skipped cutscenes just to see if the battle system expanded or the levels stopped being about "move forward, run into enemy, repeat."
I skipped cutscenes on an RPG. I NEVER do that on a first playthrough.
We'll see. I still don't have a PS3 so the decision to buy is moot, but assuming I magically get one tomorrow XIII isn't on my short list of "must buy now" games. Heavy Rain and MGS4 start that list.
(For the younger readers, a "record store" was a building that you had to go to when you wanted to buy music.)
(For the younger readers, "buying music" was the way we acquired it, since we couldn't just… you know what, let's just get back to the Bowen song. Stupid kids, you ruin everything.)

Be the Ultimate Ninja! Or Reaper! Or Zombie Killer... or something. Play Billy Vs. SNAKEMAN!

Yeah it is a bit linear for 2/3rds of the game, but at the last part it takes it back to the roots of FF.
and HOLY CRAP is this where FFXIII really pulls all stops. I wont spoil the plot, but let me just say that later in the game when you see these big open fields with lots of wild life on it, it is awe inspiring. Also, if it breathes you can kill it. Everything is fight-able save for friendly creatures.
Nothing wrong with Linearity in games. I don't know why people say it is a bad thing. I mean, in truth all games are linear in terms of the plot. Sure you have some games that have sandboxes and such, but the core of the game is linear.
Granted you have to let the characters grow on you before you start to like them and the plot is a bit confusing at first, but give it a chance and you will see it is a great game. I myself cannot put it down.
The battle system has changed and you can pick and choose your battles now. Save for boss battles.
Not really.
The only thing that people have been noticing is that the PS3 has somewhat better graphics in the hair and shadows, but I can't notice this unless I am on an HDTV. The 360 version has a better frame rate with it being 30 FPS. Which is how the developers wanted it. On the PS3 it gets choppy a little when there is a lot of enemies on the field.
Also the 360 version is on 3 disc. Just like the good ole days.
You know, I don't care what system people play the game on, but when they sit here and complain that they have to change Disc on the 360 version that's when I get mad. You had no problem on the PS1 or PS2 with the other FF games. Apparently, gamers have gotten lazier. Hope they don't get a desk job and ruin their hand stapling paperwork.

Actually the only game character that Cloud knew prior to the events of the game was Tifa. They were childhood friends and even he remembered that. He just didn't remember all the events that occured afterward with Sephiroth's massacre. He placed himself in Zach's shoes.
But besides that he didn't know the rest of the members of the group.
Also, I kinda agreed with Nate, I thought the final reveal in FF8 that all the characters knew each other when they were younger, was kind of shoddy storytelling. A sort of deus ex machina, if you will.
Btw, not a fan of FFX also. A lot of flashy graphics with zero plot and lackluster characters.

No, he knew Zach too. Remember, he was embarrassed when they went back to his home town and decided to stay incognito, but Zach was there. He also somewhat knew Aeris cause Zach talked about her. Since Aeris and Zach were dating at the time.
The concept of the Final Fantasy 8 characters in which they knew each other from the past, but were made to forget. Squall too remembered his early childhood, but not the events up to a certain point. The same concept used in FF7 only this time it was only 3 of the characters
He took Zach's Buster Sword and fought Sephiroth to which Sephiroth altered his mind.
Final Fantasy XII was probably the worst one followed by Final Fantasy X/X-2. XII was just so lame it was horrible. It had a man pretending to be a women pretending to be a man.

That was indeed bothersome, but I didn't really let it get to me. The part about it that bothered me was the deal about the junctions causing you to lose your memory. This was brought up a an explanation for the unbelievable coincidence of them all being from the same orphanage, but aside from that it was dropped rather handily. Despite a big deal being made out of whether they should keep using them or not for one scene. It was basically a gun put on the shelf that never came into play to cover a plot revelation that didn't need to happen.
Otherwise, I quite enjoyed the game and gaffs aside I really enjoyed the plot. If anything bugged me, it was the broken junction system. They tried to do something new with the system, as always, but didn't think the ramifications all the way through.
Not really; that was just one of many off memories he had. They were barely acquainted; she had her clique in the village and Cloud had a childhood crush on her at the time, which led to him trying to save her on the ropebridge and getting blamed by the adults for her getting hurt to begin with. The "promise" scene was basically him trying to impress her with his boasts of joining Soldier; she basically wanted a white knight to ride in and save her someday, so made him promise so.
Part of the problem with multiple discs is that they're harder to keep. Instead of one disc you have to worry about, there are more. If one of them is scratched, the entire game is basically useless. This is a problem I've seen people have. It's got little to do with laziness.

PS3
-Better Textures. Not very noticeable unless you're really looking for a difference.
-CGI Rendered Cutscenes are 1080p, while the 360 version is compressed at 720p. This is probably the most noticeable difference between the two.
-Lossless Audio, 360 version is compressed. Though you'll need a good sound system to hear much of a difference.
360
-Slightly better framerate, however, the PS3 version's framerate is nowhere as bad as other multiplatform titles.
Overall, you're pretty well off with either version. Just comes to down to preference or which system you own.

I'm sorry but Balthier and Fran made XII more than enjoyable for me. Plus the fighting system was very addictive.
I don't know who you are refering to with this statement, but I thought Kuja was in FF9.

It's a miracle, I knew there had to be others who liked XII.

I didn't mind it though it did nothing for me interest-wise. The main character/male was just such a lame lead, I'm sorry -.-
Ashe's dead hubby looked and acted like a FF male lead, and I wished he had been the main guy instead of Vaan >.>

To be honest I didn't care for Vaan either. He kinda was the typical young kid main character. Like I said, Bathier was the main character for me. ^^

Someone once told me that Basch was supposed to be the main character, but he was bumped back because Square thought he was too manly to be the main hero.

Is that...even possible with FF male leads
Or were they just mainly 'emo'

At this point, probably not. Every main guy has to look androgynous, it seems. It's definitely one of the things that has annoyed me about Final Fantasy, despite the fact that I really love the franchise.
