Ellaria's scream was the worst. I shipped them so much. :( And he almost had him..x(

 

As for the rest of the episode, I loved Sansa's moments! Except that dress. She looks like a queenraven or a disney villain, neither Alayne Stone or Sansa Stark would wear it.  The line was corny too. XD

 

Arya's moment was OK. Her laugh was OOC, but her character is maybe the one that was changed the most from the books. Some TV!characters are better in the show, like Jorah Mormont. But not Arya, and they did her nicely in season 1. :(

 

Jorah's departure was not emotional enough. I don't know if it's the director or Emilia Clarke, but it was too cold. Dany banishes him because she wants to be fair, she tried not to weep and she avoided looking at him in fear of forgiving him. The moment is a bit more understandable too, because Jorah is much more pushy, jealous, and entitled in the books. He tries to kiss her and marry her, but despite that, she misses him.

It's become common for people to film the live reactions of family/friends (usually non-book readers) during eventful moments in the series, the most common being the Red Wedding. And even though I think it's staged, I had to upload this one because of how funny it is.

Once I saw the arrow hit Mance's chest, I started clapping. And when it confirmed Jon was the one who did it, I stood up clapping into the credits. Jon continues to climb up my list of favorite characters. R.I.P. Mance. You will be missed.

Sooo I'm feeling conflicted:

 

General Comments

I thought the casting for young Cersei was fantastic. A spot on selection. I also think both the Jon cast and the Stannis cast are benefitting from having the opportunity to interact at the Wall. I definitely did a fist pump when Jon shot Mance. Props. I am extremely unhappy with how the show treats Loras. The constant sexploitation and cliche depictions of gay men is terrible.

 

Now, to rant. This show is turning into fanfiction:

WHERE WAS THE VALONQAR? Why even show Maggy the Frog if you don't include the Valonqar? And when your tears have drowned you, the valonqar shall wrap his hands around your pale white throat and choke the life from you." That's the most important part of the prophecy. I also hate that they sexed up Maggy. The Sansa storyline is weird. Is she replacing Fake Arya? And the way the show has destroyed Loras' character is very upsetting.

While I'm at it: They are so going to dumb down the High Sparrow and turn the religious folk into "fanatics" viewed through the current religious tension in the US, not a bunch of war refugees who act as the voice of social commentary.

I watched all the 4 episodes. Rant time.

So my last memory is the ending of ep4. Unnecessary bloodbath. That's all it was. They are killing characters that are well and alive in the books. I really liked Mance, Grey Worm, and Barristan! The last one is even a POV. They've filler-killed Dany's subordinates before, but these were two of her top people. In episode five, Emilia Clarke's face will be stiffer than this smiley , she'll give everyone a proper burial and a queenly speech until Tyrion comes and probably saves the day. It's too bad because I really like Dany in the books.

 

Sansa's story is also bad. They're trying way too hard to not make her a victim, I find it sort of victim blaming. They aged her up, but not more than a couple of years. She is taking the roles of both Jeyne/Fake Arya, and LS? Her arc in the books is just fine, and her new one is too dark and too early for her character.

 

Jon, Tyrion, and Arya's scenes were OK compared to the rest.

Well, as for the valonqar Cersei flashbacks to the hut many times. I'm going to assume that the show is going to have more flashbacks of it later that reveal the rest of the prophecy. Also I don't think you should get upset over the Loras thing. HBO isn't just sexualizing gay men they sexualize everyone, and the best way to fill the quota for man ass is to put two of em up at the same time.

Season 5 is diverging from the books. Heavily. This has been common knowledge for a long time now. You can't go in expecting the books anymore. It isn't going to happen. It's going to be AU from the books from here on out, and that is a definite. Their reasons for this have been explained to death.

 

It's not fanfiction. It's an adaptation. If you don't go into it knowing there will be changes, you're just going to keep having a bad time, no matter what they do.

I don't think it's petty at all. I understand an adaptation necessitates deviation from the text. I had quibbles with changes Jackson made to Lord of the Rings. But at the end of the day, I still felt the characters on screen were the same ones in the text. That part of the adaptation was true. The same cannot be said for Game of Thrones. I don't mind that Littlefinger didn't utter "only Cat." Or that the Hound didn't tell Beric "This cave is dark, too. But I'm the terror here." My problem is that the show is fundamentally altering who these characters are. They're changing their personalities, their motivations, their desires, etc. That isn't an adaptation. That's AU fanfiction. The Cersei on screen has a completely different set of values and actions than does the one on the page.
