One word for this chapter: Weak

Well it's nice that Guy got some focus, not only did the flashback about his father come out of nowhere but the chapter itself was waay to short. Oh well, hopefully Kishi hasn't returned to his old habits of flooding his story with flashbacks.

The inevitable sign a death sealed with a flashback... happens all the time. And every time Kishi manages to make them more interesting then other manga's and sometimes even the current story at hand. The story of the forever Genin training his son to become better then himself and teaching a powerful lesson, what's more sentimental then that? That a story every father wants for their child I assume...

I think the only underwhelming thing about this chapter was that the Full Eight Gates form can't be displayed properly in a manga. Sure, we can imagine the color, but you just know the anime will likely turn this into one heck of an episode because of it's use of color.

Well DBZ is known for "Sacrifice for good cause? What's that?" So I don't know if that will be the case here.

True 4life and that is shown in Naruto as well we just have to wait and see what Gai will do I just know he will die sadly but does this mean that Lee and Tenten will die later on as well?

As a chapter I thought it was good. The flashback was interesting. I dont think we have ever seen Gai's father before. I also was under the impression Gai could use ninjutsu, but apparently I was wrong about that. Was the chapter what I wanted? Absolutely not. Does that mean it was terrible? No. I feel like it was a necessary evil. Gai's character needs closure of some kind. (assuming Gai actually dies) I cant help but feel bad for Kakashi. Pretty much all his close friends and family have died (at one point or another). Its got to be rough.

It kind of hurts to hear people calling Gai's death/sacrifice useless. As it was said in the chapter, true victory is achieved when you are able to protect the ones you love. That is enough for a sacrifice to be gallant and meaningful.

I agree, I think people where just expecting something else, I mean, I admit the flashback did nothing for me, but that's only because I want it know what's going to happen with Gai in the here and now....

Maybe people would be nicer if this was Lee, as I'm pretty sure Lee is more liked...

No love for Gai it seems...:(

Wow it sucks to be Lee, he loses his best friend/rival, his role model and probably his love interest all in the same day.

Don't know about anyone else, but one of my takeaways from the chapter was that opening the last gate didn't necessarily mean the Gai would die. Just that his rule for opening it was only when he was prepared to die. For me, it left some wiggle room as to whether he will die or not.

edit: Who knows, maybe Drunk Lee will intervene and save him!

I thought it was an alright chapter, better than the previous one at least. Flashbacks were expected, considering Gai is about to lay his life on the line, though I'm not particularly fond of Gai's father being pretty much a carbon copy of himself because it just makes it feel like Kishi didn't want to put in the effort of creating a more original character. But I suppose it doesn't really matter, since the flashbacks were really about Gai and how he came to develop his will and life motto.

So Gai is basically gonna pull a Chaotzu or Majin Vegeta (anyone else like how Chaotzu died in vain and is called useless, while Vegeta did the exact same thing and is called a hero?)

Also I wonder if Sakura's still going to be elbow deep in Naruto's ribcage when he wakes up (Kishi might use it for a humurous moment like he did with the poisoned kunai) or I guess she could patch him up when she sees that he's waking up (though the huge hole on his side might take a while to heal)

Honestly, I think it just comes down to the fact that Vegeta was a popular character and Chaotzu (so far as I know) was not, thus one is a hero for sacrificing his life and the other is 'useless'. Though I guess their are other reasons as well, one being that Vegeta was generally self-serving and it was the "first time he fought for someone other than himself", so his actions look more selfless by comparison.

Sakura will probably close up the wound once Naruto's heart is heating on its own again, and she might still be healing him when he wakes up.

The third? I mean he died pulling Orochimaru's arms with him into to the death thing (forgot what it was called) but the Oro got them back and was able to make seals again...

But at least he put Orochimaru out of commission for a while.

That's still something...Have he not delayed Orochimaru, his evil deed would be going on instead of now seeing Sasuke's new path.

Well so far in the story as a whole I say Neji, but many saying Gai might die for nothing in his fight with Madara. Now I don't think that Kishi will do that to Gai I mean it would be a bad move and a middle finger to Gai as well.

I don't know if I'd say Neji died for nothing, but his death was horrendously executed.

Have I expressed how much I love Gai recently? Seems like Neji won't get his break from Gai even in his after life haha!

In seriousness I really hope Gai doesn't die...I'll have to go read back about the 8 gates once I have time. Maybe he can be healed? It's terrible for Lee and Tenten to lose a team mate AND teacher. I'm fascinated by this technique, there is so much feeling behind it...KakaGai is a great relationship. I'll wear green tights if Gai dies.

It's obvious that he would die that's the 8th gate the fact that you think that he might not die because it's Naruto and there's rinnegan and currently a lot of techniques that permit someome to cheat death, he might die because of the technique but could be bought back with just one of the varius techniques that are capable of bringing someome back to life.

As example Sasuke got his heart pierced and is being bough back to life with Kabuto's snake and Sakura is keeping Naruto alive with her sorcery.
The current state of the manga shows that death is cheap.

It's almost getting on the state where DBZ is.

Well Neji was a chain reaction to many, mostly Naruto. Plus saved Hinata so not too much waste. Just a sad casuality. I need something like well nothing has changed at all. Majin Vegeta really died for nothing.
