There were small details here and there but because that was Sakura everyone ignored it and now they call it asspull... It's their own fault, really. Not Kishi's.

I agree there was a lot of foreshadowing but if at least show a small panel where she seemed to further her training would have been somewhat better. He chose to give her an ability that it's training required 3 years of constant chakra control, but their biasness blinds them and see it as an asspull. Thou from your reveals this 3 years meditation does make sense. It seems her symbolism is inspired from Buddhism.

Well, the foreshadowing for Sakura to do all that she has done so far has been pretty clearly foreshadowed from the very beginning of the story.

 

It's seems the problem is that Kishi forgot to actually show panel evidence that suggested Sakura could be able to do this much. In my opinion it seems Kishi thought that simple foreshadowing was enough to satisfy the fans. And considering that so far the japanese fans seem to be enjoying the Team 7 reunion it seems Kishi guessed right.

 

Hate to say it but the opinion Kishi cares for is the one in Japan. If they're satisfied then he's also going to be satisfied. Western opinion doesn't have any ground in this matter since Kishi could care less about how other parts of the world will react to it.

I don't know about you folks, but the comparison to the Sannin in my opinion really drives the point of NaruSaku more. The whole Jiraiya gets killed just after Tsunade told him stop pretending thing. This time Naruto won't make the same mistake.

I don't think Sakura will either. I have a feeling Tsunade will survive and one of the last things she'll do is nudge Sakura in the right direction.

Another interesting detail is that these people were criticizing Sakura's fighting style, arguing that since she can only use brawl-esque taijutsu abilities that her fighting style would be ineffectual in many different scenarios. Well with this summoning of hers having been unveiled she now has a long ranged technique that has the potential of expelling acid at her opponents. They can't offer any more dissenting opinions about her lack of a diverse moveset now.

Yea I've heard this before. I think you're right and this only proves more why Kishi seems to be leaning towards narusaku. It's very popular in Japan while here in the west sasusaku and naruhina is popular.

Because of the years it took for Kishimoto to get to her development, there are people looking at this and thinking it doesn't fit, (which is annoying because it does - he just took forever to get to it.)

 

Well, annoying as it may be, I can't blame them. An almost complete lack of foreshadowing is a failure on the writers part. As long as this manga is, it's hard to see a reason a page or even a panel hinting at Sakura having a power up coming couldn't have been snuck in every, say, ten chapters.

I doubt he doesn't care. More that he just doesn't know. I recall a couple years ago it came out that he didn't even really know the manga was popular in America. I think we over-estimate how aware these guys are of us.

On the subject of asspulls (Heaven and Earth's newest favorite word, it seems), Sakura is an example of how you ALMOST do it right.  Sakura is pulling what TVTropes (not linking because just looking for the link to post it would take hours out of my day.  Damned addictive website, there) calls a "I am not right-handed" moment -- a declaration that some self-inhibiting factor (in this case, making the seal) has prevented her from fighting at full capacity for the fights we have seen her in so far, but that factor has been removed and NOW we get to see what she can really do.

 

A great way to handle it... but the reason I give it an "almost" is that it should have been hinted at in text a little better, not just in cover art and the like.  Hints that you might have missed at the time, but going back you can realize "Oh, with this new context I can see how this scene was showing that Sakura wasn't just weaker, here, but actually holding back."  Meh, no big deal.

 

This is unlike Sasuke, who just seems to get Asspull power-ups EVERY time he's in a fight.

 

In other discussion, I'm not sure I quite understand the text spoilers (like the Sai part), particularly in context with the panels we do see.  Just doesn't seem to fit with the one image.  I don't trust them, and won't until I get a better (clearer) translation or (more likely) until the whole chapter comes out.

I agree that the covers are nice foreshadowing(especially since the cover with Sakura's slug was before Tsunade's introduction I think), but it's not enough. I need more than words.

 

Her progress should've been more even, instead of cramming it all at the end. The covers are old, Chiyo's words are old, it's a long time ago we got any hint.

I don't understand this sentiment, It has been hinted at so much only someone who is completely biased couldn't realize this was coming. it is a failure by the reader not the author in my opinion

 

and check out the very first colour page from Naruto 1 the hawk may again make an apearance

I tend to agree with this.

The Sakura haters tend to be extremely irrational and probably would have cried "asspull" during her training.
