He died in one of the story arcs in the comic. There is so many freaking arcs I don't even know there is one canon timeline anymore. Well like ciardha said its not a good comparison with manga characters. Just pointing out the resurrection part of Goku seems similar with American comic characters.

I believe Akira Toriyama is one of the few Japanese manga writers who like American superhero comics, Nobuhiro Watsuki being another- and he made that real obvious in Kenshin- with villains that strongly physically resembled Marvel's Gambit and Hulk. wink.gif

Jinei- the hitokiri who went completely mad and kept killing people after the war. Watsuki changes the hair color to gray-white, but the physical resemblance to Gambit is really clear. Watsuki even says in one of his manga volume notes that Gambit was one of his favorite superhero characters.

Yeah Gambit is one of my favourite X-men and I was disappointed he didn't appear in the movie trilogy. They even turned Rogue into a crappy useless character.

How about Kishi? Did he have any other influences other than Dragon Ball?

Adachi Mitsuru was/probably still is a major influence on Kishimoto (he started off wanting to write a baseball manga after all and finally did in his oneshot) as well he created the Sasuke/Sakura/Naruto dynamic based upon how Takehiko Inoue did the "love triangle" in Slam Dunk.

Guy1 in love with girl (Naruto) > Girl in love with Guy2 (Sakura) > Guy2 couldn't give a hoot (Sasuke)

Guy1 and Guy2 are rivals
