I dont thinks its his editors. I see it Kishi finally have the balls to turn down his editors and do things his way for the first time. There is absolutely no way the editors wanted the Gaiden to be written like this because the know its a complete sabotage. 

Honestly i think it was just the editors not caring about Sasuke or Sakura or SS, and Kishi lashing out in the gaiden because his reputation was destroyed. Originally as long as he didn't bash nH to obviously they were fine with what ever he did because again they don't care about SS. If they are rectoning anything is that they realize how large SS fanbase is and how bashing them is ruining the sales.

That's minimum number that I expect from a manga with big fandom like naruto. Lower than that we could consider it as flop.

Even volume 72 got 800,000 the first week and over a million by the end of the month in Japan alone. If it can't make half of that then we know how far it has fallen, and so will the executives.
