Thanks.  But it seems so simple, you know?

It's so ridiculous for NH and SS fans to be bullying, bragging, or trumpeting their so-called "win."  What exactly did they win?

In order for NH and SS to happen, Naruto's heart had to be ultimately and permanently broken.  His personal feelings had to be proven irrelevant and unimportant to the best friend he nearly died saving, and the girl he loved his entire life.  He was forced to give up on an important aspect of his nindo and personal dreams.

Not to mention that to secure the NH/SS ending, Kishimoto betrayed not only his hero but the core message of the entire story.

So... yeah.  I don't get what there is to celebrate for NH and SS.  One of the main arguments of NH fans all along was that Naruto had given up on Sakura and had fallen for Hinata.  They were relentless with their "proof" of his love for and acceptance of Hinata, thanks to a chakra transfer and a glance here and there.

But the fact that the movie exists at all, and that it is necessary to tell the story of how NH happens, proves that Naruto never loved Hinata during the manga.

What a pathetic ending.  Pathetic for Naruto.  Pathetic for Hinata.  Pathetic of Sakura and Sasuke.  Pathetic for fans who loved NS.  Pathetic for fans who don't give a single crap that Naruto was trampled on so their ships could "win."

And so, so, so pathetic of Kishimoto and the franchise hustlers.

I said it before and I will say it again. I am so sick of these "bittersweet endings." I don't care how realistic it is, I want the happy endings back. A happy ending where the hero truly gets everything they deserve and not just settle for what was left.

Just an ending that makes sense. Please Kishi just one ounce of logic is all I ask.

I have a headcanon where Naruto always has this goofy smile when Sakura passes by but when she leaves he has this empty almost broken expression, and even though he is married to Hinata he feels unsatisfied and can never forget everything he has been through with sakura and how much he loved her. :(

This is precisely why the ending of the manga is so bitter and unsettling.

I don't understand how any reader or fan with heartfelt love for the character of Naruto can be satisfied with an ending that required him to make such a selfless and painful sacrifice.

Naruto's true love and so-called "brother" both disregarded his feelings, and he ended up having to settle.  As far as I'm concerned, there's no way around that assessment.

Even if the movie miraculously manages to convince people that Naruto's decision to be with Hinata was founded in profound love and he is happy, it's still a retcon and anyone with the slightest bit of objectivity knows it.  If Naruto had felt anything for Hinata in the manga, the movie wouldn't be necessary to sell the audience on how he ends up with her.

Naruto had to settle for Hinata, a girl who will never be the one he was in love with or wanted at his side.  Pure and simple.

This is a wonderful post.

What I find sad about The Last is they threw in a flashback scene for a scarf that was never important in the manga in order to justify and backup the reasoning behind why NaruHina became what it is in the manga. That is honestly the saddest truth I've ever seen for any pairing in general, All you need is a movie to explain why they got together and NaruHina will be satisfied. They're willing to go so far in using an (optional) movie to justify why NaruHina makes sense. Hinata will finally get what she wants as Naruto becomes heart broken in order to chose her as his lover.

This is where the silver medal term comes into play.  Relying on SS for NH to occur, and that's honestly what I find sad from them.

The Naruto I rooted never gave up on anything, and never went back on his word. He wanted to seek acknowledgement, go after the girl of his dreams, become Hokage, and never run away from his goal. To him there were no shortcuts, or easy route, it didn't matter what hardships it took for him to achieve that goal.

yeah, poor naruto :( he's the hero and he was pretty much destroyed inside, and out just so NH/SS could win.sakura's character was destroyed to...sad that the side characters were more popular than the MAIN TWO CHARACTERS!

Yup, and it's a big part of why I can't seem to "get over" the ending. I'm really disappointed not just because the pairings ended up the way they did, but because it represents an abandonment of all the great stuff that drew me to the manga.

And I'm with James. I don't read manga for bittersweet endings (except maybe Berserk). I want an uplifting story where the hero wins and gets the girl. But does Naruto win? He ties Sasuke, settles for Hinata, and looks miserable.

Me and my girlfriend were discussing about quality of the story in general and the more we were discussing this one, the more I was getting fire. Of course I didn't lash at her, it's only between me and the topic. Anyway, this kills it.

The fact that Kishi needs a movie to show that Naruto fell out of love with Sakura is just sad.

No kidding. Last minute no less. No joy from it at all. No good thoughts of how the life would be, because it leaves flashback to do any imagination and hides the flaws with it. It's like wrestling, if you can't wrestling like technical speaking, hide it and do what you do best: be a monster. In here, if the pairing was established in the middle, the flaws will be exposed.

He never even wore the scarf in 700. Is Kishi really writing this movie?
