IMO they sacrificed Naruto (the kittening hero) and Sakura (the kittening heroine) to have 2 couples in the end, and not only one. then, they had many other couples that weren't even meant to be just for the "new era project" (moneyyyy $$$$$)

Damn, I was gonna reply to a few people, but I lost the quotes... Anyway, someone mentioned the silver medal argument, and the way I see it, that's exactly what happened; the story established Naruto's unwavering love for Sakura, but he had to settle for Hinata because Kishi made Sakura end up with Sasuke. The reason Hinata is relegated to a silver medal/pairing fodder role is because her character and her relationship with Naruto was not built upon enough throughout the story to warrant romantic feelings between them. It seems Kishi/SP want to mitigate this mistake by devoting a film to the beginning of their romantic relationship, but there's something wrong from the get-go: it's been 2 years since the end of the war, and Naruto still hasn't even acknowledged her confession. "Her feelings have not reached him", says the synopsis of the movie. How, in the span of what I assume will be days, at most weeks, will Naruto suddenly acknowledge Hinata after years of knowing her feelings for him and what will happen with his previously established unwavering love?

 

I think Kishi when sitting down to write 699-700 at some point noticed he always wanted to write a shoujo, so he made that ending in order to write The Last as a shoujo anime film.

 

Some of you say the last chapters were character assassination; the way I see it, the whole story was assassinated, which is why I can't take Kishi seriously anymore in whatever he does from now on.

 

I'm glad this season is full of good anime (I'm drowning right now in over 20 this season alone), so Naruto's bad ending doesn't really affect as much as it would have months ago. I'm also glad I got Assassin's Creed: Unity and Halo: MCC today, next week comes Dragon Age: Inquisition, and I'm getting Sunset Overdrive on the Holidays. Plus I may be getting involved in a blog making game and film reviews, so I'll definitely be busy (too busy to lend any attention to Naruto) next year if all goes well.

I got to spread this. This is just great. Short, sweet, and sad. I shed man tears. I feel like a guy who got separated from my love, going to meet my friends casually, learn that I got separated, and finally, when they tell me it's ok, I break. I feel like Will Smith in that famous scene from Fresh Prince where he finally let it go about his father being terrible yet why him......

You know what after catching up and reading the obscene way other fandoms are trolling and BULLYING after they "won" (I use this term loosely) I completely understand the reasoning behind such an awful ending! Think about it you won ....but you still don't stop, why, well because you still don't agree with my opinion so I'll force you to! Imagine if Naruto got with Sakura they'd be apekitten !!!

As far as people touting that Kishi is breaking the stereo-typical molds of tsundere/hero I throw the kitten flag and cite ALL the women in the epilogue ....so all the ladies got married and had babies? Soo... not one same sex couple..... Not one single lady who doesn't need a man to get by? Just the guys get to be independent playas then ....yeah revolutionary thought processes!!

Naruto is by far the saddest character obliterated by this ending. I look back at a goofy guy that just won't quit, that hides his pain, but you genuinely see glimpses of something deep, more intelligent, and developed on several occasions. So don't go about kittening me saying Naruto never loved Sakura when we see this serious selfless nature present itself anytime she needed protecting physically or from the emotional toll of Sasukes descent into hatred. He shows this side in the aide of his close friends (ie Gara, Sasuke) also but on a much less frequent basis. I truly believe that whatever motivated him to turn to Hinata had more to do with the happiness of his two teammates (your brother digs the girl you've loved and you love them both so...) despite his own suffering. I don't think that any amount of backstory in a movie can erase all the moments in this manga that Naruto puts Sakura before his own feelings by NOT admitting them and being selfish (like Hinata with her confession) burdening and guilting her with them when she hasn't truly had the opportunity to resolve the lingering feelings for Sasuke. True selfless love is putting another's feelings before your own.
Which is why we're being hassled they KNOW better then they'd like us to think, which is why they try to convince us when they have so little to convince themselves.

I don't understand how any reader or fan with heartfelt love for the character of Naruto can be satisfied with an ending that required him to make such a selfless and painful sacrifice.

 

Naruto's true love and so-called "brother" both disregarded his feelings, and he ended up having to settle.  As far as I'm concerned, there's no way around that assessment.  

 

Even if the movie miraculously manages to convince people that Naruto's decision to be with Hinata was founded in profound love and he is happy, it's still a retcon and anyone with the slightest bit of objectivity knows it.  If Naruto had felt anything for Hinata in the manga, the movie wouldn't be necessary to sell the audience on how he ends up with her.

 

Naruto had to settle for Hinata, a girl who will never be the one he was in love with or wanted at his side.  Pure and simple.

IGN gave it a 7.8, still going to get it anyway.

I've only played a little of it, but I like it so far. The main guy is reminiscent of Ezio, who I loved.

It's so ridiculous for NH and SS fans to be bullying, bragging, or trumpeting their so-called "win."  What exactly did they win?

 

In order for NH and SS to happen, Naruto's heart had to be ultimately and permanently broken.  His personal feelings had to be proven irrelevant and unimportant to the best friend he nearly died saving, and the girl he loved his entire life.  He was forced to give up on an important aspect of his nindo and personal dreams.

 

Not to mention that to secure the NH/SS ending, Kishimoto betrayed not only his hero but the core message of the entire story.

 

So... yeah.  I don't get what there is to celebrate for NH and SS.  One of the main arguments of NH fans all along was that Naruto had given up on Sakura and had fallen for Hinata.  They were relentless with their "proof" of his love for and acceptance of Hinata, thanks to a chakra transfer and a glance here and there.

 

But the fact that the movie exists at all, and that it is necessary to tell the story of how NH happens, proves that Naruto never loved Hinata during the manga.

 

What a pathetic ending.  Pathetic for Naruto.  Pathetic for Hinata.  Pathetic of Sakura and Sasuke.  Pathetic for fans who loved NS.  Pathetic for fans who don't give a single crap that Naruto was trampled on so their ships could "win."

 

And so, so, so pathetic of Kishimoto and the franchise hustlers.
