But he knew she was feeling down based on her eyes alone. Didn't know they had that kind of connection. It felt random.

Or maybe he knew it because of the way she looked like. I can also tell that someone is upset if he/she makes a sad face. It could also be experience that everytime hinata fails she gets down.
@六道仙人: I get the feeling that nearly everthing you do in japan implies romance. Im not sure if we can really count all that stuff as manga evidence.

HE only replied to what she said first the "all in your eyes" stuff.

Sigh...
"It's all in your eyes."
But did he really need to include that eye crap? Not to mention that she fellows up with it too. It's like they've reached a level of connection that I was not aware of. Feels like off panel BS.

meh, at my eyes he only tried to encourage her. I don't think that he was a romantic thing... You can see Naruto's reaction when praised mentally sakura's incredibile healing ability chapter 253... That was definetely a romantic situation. Naruto praised her romantically.
Instead here with Hinata, it doesn't sounds a romantic compliment to me. It sounds just a support in order to comfort her since she was felt down in that moment. I really don't see any romantic clues in that moment from him... If there was one at least, then I failed.

That I can agree on. Kishimoto is playing around a lot lately with the Big 3. SS, NS, NH a ridiculous amount lately. I'm not doubting too much about NS but I do wanna know why Kishi is so determined to play with the NH shippers. I feel like he's rudely trolling him. Given them hope by *insert NH scene here* and *insert another NH moment here* only to have craploads of NS later on. That's the feeling I'm getting and I see many NH fans falling for it. Even though it would partly their own fault for getting cocky and not considering every option, you can't blame then too much. NH teases left and right, even though I don't see the romance. I actually feel bad for them. I mean, if NS was having as many moments as they are now and we were soaking it in only to get NH stuff at the forefront permanently right after? Seriously, I would feel betrayed. It's harsh for a shipping fan.
Or maybe this is my confidence in NS muddling my judgement. We'll see with time.
That scene IMO was definitely an interesting one, I can see why you brought it up. Well, Naruto's bit is easy. He realized she was doubting herself and feeling upset so cue motivational coach pep talk. The "in your eyes" line was referring to the motivational pep talk. He said she was strong and indirectly thanked her for risking her life back in the Pain arc, though gave no comment over the confession at all. Maybe he was trying to imply in a nice way he just doesn't see her that way? Maybe Hinata misinterpreted it and has more confidence in getting with him? That's my opinion. And Hinata recognizing Naruto ... well, good point. She loves him so she automatically assumed it was him maybe? That's interesting. I can interpret Naruto's feelings easily here but it may mean something in Hinata's "it's in his eyes" line.
The thing about NaruHina fanservice lately, it's not as overt or solid as the previous NS examples in the past. It's something to notice and make you think but Naruto's feelings turning romantic remain empty. It's not impossible of course but even the NH hand-holding was downplayed by Naruto passing his chakra to everyone else instantly. That's basically NH in a nutshell. It makes you think and wonder but at the heart of the matter, Naruto doesn't treat her differently enough to imply romance as of yet.
Thin ice maybe but it's not bad enough to for that ice to break.

This is exactly why I said Kishi is treading on thin ice. I know Naruto wasn't trying to be romantic, but the eye comment was so borderline romantic, especially because Hinata fellows up with it in a very similar way. Why in gods name did he feel the need to point out her mood based on his observation of her eyes? Seriously?

Thank you for taking the time to address this. I can tell you that I agree with you on pretty much everything. I just think that Kishi could have planned out that pep talk much differently than inserting that mutual eye comment crap. While I do hate the majority of the NH fandom, I don't think it's right of Kishi to give them high hopes of NH happening, even if it is for his financial benefits. Because lets face it, when ever a NH moment comes up they always tend to form their opinion solely from Hinata's view and automatically think it's mutual without much thought from Naruto's view. That's their way of thinking and I can't really fault them at it because it's a rarity for Naruto and Hinata to have a conversation.

I hate the portion of NH fandom who are hard-headed and bash NS fans for having a different opinion. Unfortunately, I see a lot of those, especially on infamous Youtube. But actually, I hate people like that in general in any fandom. Yeah, when Kishi has a next NaruSaku moment and it's so screamingly huge and obvious then I know Kishimoto was trolling the NH fans. I'm already getting that feeling because all of this NH focus is coming out of nowhere, mostly revolving Hinata's growth but NH teases that are random as hell. I'm confident Kishi isn't aiming for NH but what he's doing is puzzling. The day I turn out right, I'm going to see the NH fan's reactions out of curiousity and then I'd feel bad for them. Getting teases so frequently only to be reminded Naruto is still in love with someone else is brutal. I see this coming already. Kishimoto is deliberately doing all of this because he wants to be the ultimate troller again. Those NH fans ... Kishimoto is just stringing them along for something NS-related, therefore the biggest unpleasant blow ever since the series is close to finishing. They have no idea. Mark my words.
I noticed that about NaruHina's arguments. They revolve so heavily around her feelings for him and cling to it like a lifeline so everytime Naruto thanks her or cheers her up like he would for any friend, they jump the gun and force a romantic intent on Naruto to meet their wishes. That's just ... misguided. I can understand it but still, there is such a thing as looking too deep into things.
I wonder how Naruto would feel if he somehow saw how many people hate Sakura and worship him getting with Hinata endlessly, to the point they convince themselves it would happen.
NH commenter: "Naruto SO loves Hinata now! He held her hand and she was the only person who brought him back from Neji. Their bond is so strong, they're totally gonna get together. Sakura? Plz Naruto never loved her, he's over his silly crush on her. Such a terrible person like her doesn't deserve him, not like Hinata does."
Naruto: " .... huh?"

It's not the first time I see a mangaka doing that. One of the most known is Tite Kubo.

He shows a lot more emotion when it comes to Sakura. Usually, when he's thinking in a romantic way, he blushes - as we can see in the examples with Sakura. He has never blushed while dealing with Hinata, even during all of the recent interactions between the two.

That's such a Sai thing to do. I can only imagine if Naruto and Sakura entered his room afterwards.
I would love see their reaction to this!!

I dont see why are you making a big deal with it.
Naruto see on Sasuke eyes that he wanst a rival, he saw on Gaara's eyes that he was equal to Sasuke, this scene does not imply romance unless if Naruto make a compliment of her eyes which didnt happened.

Look at Hinata's face. She makes it absolutely obvious that she's being down on herself here. (Could she be anymore glum about it?) Obviously, Naruto was going to notice this. When he tells her to stop worrying about it, she denies that she is. So, to prove that she's wrong, he says the following:

Naruto: [I know you're feeling down about yourself.] It's all in [the very glum and depressed look you have in] your eyes. Don't get so down on yourself! You're strong!
I don't see this as a romantic moment at all. At least, not from Naruto's perspective. (Then again, when has Naruto ever had a moment that he considers romantic with Hinata?

I'm making a "big deal out of it" because it has just come to my attention while NS has obviously taking a back seat ever since the summit, NH has gradually gotten moment after moment. You can try to downplay their moments, but at least their having moments lately, can't say the same for NS. Staring contest, cheek touching, hand holding. What's next? Armpit sniffing?
