Kishi consider Hinata as heroine but not the heroine, just like is not the hero of the story even thought he got the hero treatment.
Well the assistant tweed said there are no heroine since 2010 not change of heroine.
Sakura get backlash because her character is unlike able to some AND kishi doesn't develop her.

Oh, well that doesn't really mean he regrets her then, does it? In context, it seems like he's regretful that she got all the hate from those rabid Otaku's. Kinda consistent when he got pissed because of the Hinata comparison.
he only has himself to blame for this, so it does kinda make sense that he's regretting her character since he failed on her.

She probably won for Naruto, if I'm not mistaken Naruto was her first job, after it she voiced a few popular characters like Fate Testarossa from Nanoha, which escaleted her carreer.
So yeah the "newcomer" thing is probably for Naruto being her first work
