But you wouldn't want the games to end up in tie would you? biggrin.gif

Yeah, I don't like the idea that this was brought up because of Favre making his usual bone headed pick to cost his team the game. I do like the college rule where both teams get a chance to score, but I'd change the field positioning and turn it into two kickoffs instead. We'll see in May whether this will move to the regular season as well and if it passes then. But the Player's Association is looking to get their opinion in on the change as well so this could turn into a messy issue.

Well there's no tie's in the postseason rolleyes.gif

The Eagles and Bengals had plenty of time to win the game. They couldn't, sucks for them. But hey, that tie saved our season. A loss would've been fatal.

Mcnabb to the skins, damn. Im friggin shocked. Can't believe we traded him to a division rival, Kolb has some big shoes to fill. Gonna be a ton of drama when we play them.

F man, to the kittening redskins are you kittening kidding me. Oh well, second rounder most likely which is decent compensation. Kolb is going to have to prove himself NOW. PLayoffs or bust are fair expectations, but damn does it suck to see 5 go. He never really got a fair shot in philly, and in my honest opinion it is because of a race issue.

Even though I'm a Cowboys fan, I'm angry at this move too. I don't think it was fair enough compensation either. But the ridiculous thing is that they traded him to a division rival! A team they are going to have to play twice a season, at the least. It could be three times, depending on how they do next season. It'll be sad to see McNabb leave the Eagles. Hate the Eagles but always loved McNabb. And I agree with it possibly being a race issue. Best of luck to him in Washington, however. =\

In good Cowboys news, we got rid of Flozell Adams (YES!) and Ken Hamlin. Much earlier than expected, but the two of them being released was expected. Hopefully Free will be able to ease in to the left tackle role & we can pick up some good secondary players & linemen in the draft.

I thought it was an off chance in hell that it would happen when I heard the rumors, but wow when it actually came through I am shocked. I've heard that McNabb had a lot of influence in the decision and that he didn't want to go to the Bills/Raiders, so the Redskins were the best option. In a league where loyalty means so little he got to leave on his terms to part with the Eagles which is quite something.

I actually think this could work out quite well for the 'Skins.

+Mcnabb is at least a top 15 QB and brings a lot to the table with leadership. Mike Shanahan is a great coach who will vastly improve the team and make em a contender.
+They have a good receiver in Santana Moss, two good TE's in Chris Cooley and Fred Davis. Granted it isn't the young fire power the Eagles have, but it still a pretty good passing attack.
+Sure they have three injury prone running backs, but Shanahan was the first to implement the two back system so he'll definitely rotate them around so they'll play all 16 games and give McNabb the running support he needs instead of passing 50+ a game.
+They have a top 10 defense in the league which just needed an offense to help them out, and now they are looking set with a good balanced team.
-The offensive Line is still the biggest weakness, but if they can get Russell Okung at #4 they'll solidify the LT position and can improve the rest through the draft/free agency.

Really it isn't too far off to see the Redskins winning 9 games and getting a wildcard (yup that's what I said!!)

As for the Eagles, they have a great offense (not sure about the running game, but not like Reid cares about that...) but need to fix up the offense line as well since what happened at the end of last season. The defense will still be pretty good, but they need to fix up lots of holes in the secondary, find a strong LB core, and get Trent Cole some help in the DLine. With eleven draft picks they'll be able to make the team younger and "retool" (note: not rebuild since they have a legitimate offense panning how Kevin Kolb does) and repin the defense back to the early '00 years. However, this will all rely on how much faith you can entrust into Kevin Kolb since many seem very high on him (I am not, only been a couple of games) to continue the Eagles success.

I still believe the Cowboys are the team to beat in the division as they are the most complete.

Yeah, Shanahan as coach will make a difference with how the 'Skins perform this season. And I sure hope you're right about my Cowboys. I think they the majority of the pieces, but they still lack attitude & toughness. Keith Brooking seemed to bring a bit of that on defense, so that's fine. But somebody really needs to step up on offense. I'm hoping Romo will, but he really doesn't seem like the leader type to me, quite honestly, so hopefully Witten, Austin, or one of the RB's will step up. Offensive leadership is their biggest problem. Defensively, they've been fine until the offense decides to take a break here & there.

So what do you guys think about the new overtime rule change in the playoffs (and voting for the regular season is in May)? It passed by an overwhelming majority, but it seems like the players and coaches don't approve of it.

I think it's a good move, but I would have preferred another quarter or do just sudden death. Also, the fact that this is being brought up because Bret Favre losing to the Saints rubs me the wrong way...

I think it's stupid. Make it a quarter or trading possessions, but the extra possession if they score a FG just seems silly.

QUOTE (Mik3 @ Mar 24 2010, 11:01 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
What ticks me off is the fact that the NFL was butthurt over Favre choking again in the NFCCG. He had his chance to win the game, but he threw a stupid int in field goal range and its HIS fault. I don't like the change because you already have 60 minutes to win fair and square.

I don't think it was the Favre or the Vikes that really spurred it. Heck, the Vikes voted against the rule. I think it was how teams just kinda shut down their offense in FG range.

I don't like Favre much, but I wouldn't blame him for the loss. It was the third or maybe fourth worst turnover by the Vikes in that game. There was one deep in Minnesota territory that gave the Saints an easy shot at a TD. And there were two deep in Saints territory that cost the Vikes a touchdown or at the least, a very easy FG. He tossed an interception that prevented a long FG attempt. If he'd run, I think it would've been between 40-45 yards and Longwell has been very good at that range, but it's not automatic.

I'm surprised by the McNabb trade, but I'm just as shocked at how many Redskins fans are against the trade. Yes, you didn't get younger, and yes, you traded away more draft picks. 90% of the time I'd agree with them, but when you have a chance to get a QB of McNabb's caliber you do it. Assuming they're able to keep him for 3-4 years, that's at least two you don't have to worry about drafting your QB of the future (Sorry Jason Campbell, we hardly knew ye. Maybe the 'Skins can recoup a pick or two by trading him to say, Buffalo?)

This also makes their draft easy. If Okung is available at 4, you take him. If Detroit takes him at 2, you trade down.

demonfox - If your QB isn't the offensive leader in the huddle, boy, you have issues. It HAS to be Romo or else they'll just kinda meh their way into and out of the playoffs.

Never thought I'd see the day, but looks like the McNabb/Shanahan era has begun in D.C. Will it be similar to the Elway one in Denver? Time will only tell...

Jwolf0 - not necessarily. I think people place too much emphasis on the QB's importance to the team. Yeah, they're important because somebody has to throw the ball (obviously) & tell the plays, but they should not be expected to "lead" the team. That's like people saying the point guard is the QB on the court. Yeah, the PG is the main ball handler, but that doesn't mean he has to be the leader. The leader of any team is the person who keeps the team on track, focused on the task at hand. He helps keep them mentally prepared, as well as energized. If it happens to be the QB, then good. If it's somebody else, then that's fine as well.

The problem with most teams is they expect the QB to be the final piece to the championship. Plenty of teams have shown that you can have an average QB who just hands the ball off to the RB or throws short routes & still win. QB is not as important as everybody makes them out to be.

Tis only my opinion though. smile.gif

I don't know man...we have not one but TWO 1,000 yard rushers in a single season and were still mediorce because our QB turned it over so often. It's not our only problem (a lack of a #2 receiver being a huge one), but it was a signigicant one. You just can't turn it over that often. Just ask the Vikings.

I'm not saying they shouldn't take care of the ball. They have to, but that doesn't mean they should be the leader. A perfect example of a team that had an average QB but a great running game &, of course, an amazing defense was the Baltimore Ravens. One of the main reasons they faltered they year after they won the Super Bowl was because they lost Lewis to injury. So, you're right, taking care of the ball is important. But that doesn't mean they are a leader.

Like I said, though, just my personal opinion. It takes more than a good QB to create a winning team, in my opinion. smile.gif

lol, they might need to get rid of Ben Rottenburger. Kinda tarnishing the team. Really though, I don't see Pittsburgh doing much this year either. I just don't think Tomlin is that good of a coach.
