Sean Bean doesn't die.

10/10

Nah, in all seriousness, I grew up with this movie. So I probably have a nostalgic bias with it. That being said, it's by no means a bad movie. It's really pretty good and underrated, I think. Identifiable characters with layers (although you will not like all of them by any means, mainly Paris) and grand battle scenes carry it. It has some flaws (namely a romance subplot that could've been done better), but there's a lot to appreciate and enjoy in it.

Real score: 8/10

P.S. Sean Bean doesn't die. Just want to make it clear how amazing that is.

I'm still waiting for a The Odyssey sequel starring Sean Bean as Odysseus.... So he doesn't die again. And gets it on with several hot, immortal deities and still gets the girl.

The Dark Knight Returns Part 1 (2012): 10/10
and
The Dark Knight Returns Part 2 (2013): 9/10

Both hands-down the best DCAU Movies to date and put them together they are even better. It helps that it's an adaptation of one of the greatest Batman stories of all time. The Animation, the Voice Acting (especially Peter "Robocop" Weller as Batman), the Music just about everything is perfect here. A few changes made especially in Part 2 like
The Dark Knight Returns Spoiler --Click here to view--
The Joker kills himself instead of Batman killing him
and the lack of Narration in certain points like
The Dark Knight Returns Spoiler --Click here to view--
After the Nuke goes off and Superman is nearly killed, the lack of the iconic Narration in the scene kills the emotion.
kind of irk me, but besides that I could not have asked for a better Adaptation of my favorite Batman Comic.

Memoirs of a Geisha - 8/10

I FINALLY saw this movie. I was very quickly enthralled and loved it. Beautifully done and very memorable. More often than not, movies that tell a story over the course of an entire life of a character lose my emotional investment and aren't as captivating, so I was impressed that I was so interested the whole time.

Even though it is generally praised, I think the movie is still under-rated. It was perfectly written and paced, it had me feeling hopeful at the right times, melancholy at the right times, and even confused at the right times. The inside world of geisha was for so long very mysterious and secretive (to the benefit of the geisha reputation) and since the movie was from the perpective of a girl being introduced to this world from the inside, along with good directing, made me feel like I was getting the precious opportunity to peak in behind the curtain so to speak. Essentially the whole film had me right where it wanted me every step of the way. If there is ever a sign of a good director/writer, it's having complete control over the audience's thoughts and feelings.

Perk's of Being a Wallflower - 6/10

I must be missing something because I thought a lot of the movie was just dumb. There were some great moments that struck the heart and felt honest, but they were too few and far between. I walked away feeling incredibly depressed, although I don't think that was supposed to be the affect.

Sooo...what were the flaws that got it struck down to a 8/10?

I watched two movies last night so I'll post my thoughts on both of them.

Batman: Under the Red Hood => 10/10

This animated Batman movie is awesome. The action, animation and voice acting was awesome as hell. This movie probably has my favorite rendition of the Joker ever. Voiced by the man behind Jake the Dog and Bender Bending Rodriguez whose name I can't remember.

Black Dynamite => 10/10

If you like movies that parody blaxploitation films from the 70s, then you'd love this film. This movie came out in 2009, but they intentionally made it look like a low budget film from the 70s. The titular character named Black Dynamite is a motherf***ing memetic badass all the way. This movie spawned an animated spinoff on Adult Swim, and that show was awesome as well.

none I can point to. I think when the score is 8/10 its about what got it so high, not why it didn't get even higher. As far as i'm concerned any movie I would give 8/10 is an incredible piece of film. I don't think it's appropriate to be giving out 9s and 10s willy-nilly. To me, if a movie is given 10/10 by definition of the score, has to literally be one of the greatest films ever made. The rating's on IMDB are generally a good example of that. On all of IMDB there are only three movies scored 9.0 or higher.

Maybe you don't agree with my thoughts on scoring but at least it will give context to my scores. Sorry if that wasn't helpful at all sad.gif

Moonrise Kingdom - ?/10

I have no idea what to think of this movie. On one hand, it's well-made, well-acted, well-directed, etc., but it didn't really succeed in being very entertaining. It tried to be funny, but the most I ever got out of it was a small chuckle here and there. Instead of, say, a literal tree-house being on-screen and you looking at it thinking "oh, that's funny!", you kind of look at it and think "uh...o...k?...".

Not to mention how one scene in particular was incredibly awkward. Advice to anyone and everyone: do not watch this with relatives. Hell, do not watch this with anyone. Watch this movie alone.

In the end, though, do watch it. It is something worth seeing, for what it's worth. But I can't give it a score.

The Hunger Games: 9/10

I finally got around to watching the movie and I gotta say, I'm so glad I got it. It's story literally blew my mind, no wonder it went from book to movie. I find the constant brutality between young people really terrible yet at the same time oddly griping. Katniss Everdeen is my favorite character, she was very strong and smart in how she dealed with everything she went through yet still pretty human all at once. She acts strong, but underneath it all she still worries and still has doubts. Her crying scene for Grue ... shamefulcry0js.gif

Probably the only problem I had with this movie is how rushed that Peeta/Katniss relationship seemed. Don't get me wrong, I think it's really cute and ship lightly but it just could've been done a bit better. Like I would have preferred if Katniss confronted Peeta about possibly betraying her during the Hunger Games, since when he helped her it could've been brushed off as a hallucination. Just it wasn't properly developed enough from my taste, maybe it's just me. Still easily one of my favorite movies tho.

Evil Dead (2013)- 9/10
Went to see the movie opening night and was really happy when I left the theater. The movie's really a lot of fun, it's violent, gory and captures the spirit of the originals (especially once it gets to the third act). Must see if you're a fan of the original movies.

Magnolia - 8-9/10

Not exactly current but I admire Paul Thomas Anderson and wanted more after I saw There Will Be Blood. For one I'll say it managed to keep me interested and invested despite it being 3 hours long. I thought acting was great and each character was interesting. I won't spoil it but half way through, something happens out of left field and the flow came to a screeching halt. It was an intentional device writer/director PTA used and it was strangely inspired.

One complaint. The movie's premise is that it follows several seemingly unrelated characters who's stories intertwine by the end to say something about coincidence. The problem is that by the end when you see it all come together it feels insignificant considering it spent 3 hours building up.

Wow, it's been a while since anyone has posted anything in here.

Iron Man 3 7/10

It falls pray to the trilogy bug. It wasn't as good of a movie as part one and it wasn't as entertaining as part 2. I loved the multi-armor.

Still don't know how I feel about this:
Super Spoiler --Click here to view--
Seriously... the Mandarin thing... kruemelmonsteryn0.gif kruemelmonsteryn0.gif Just feels like Super Troll.

If anyone has seen the movie Kiss Kiss Bang Bang (which is a great movie starring RDJ as well as being directed by Iron Man 3 director Shane Black) know that this movie feels very much like KKBB lite ft. Iron Man. For most of the movie it feels more like Harry Lockhart then Tony Stark.

Side note: Kudos to Pepper Potts BTW.

I will say this though... I don't know if it was just a decision that Marvel likes to make, but the whole "the bad guy started out as a really super nerdy geeky guy who you're supposed to feel pity for at the beginning of the movie" thing is super tired. Guy Pearce plays one of the main antagonists in the movie and at the beginning of the movie he is cartoonishly nerdy. Like... Edward Nigma from Batman and Robin cartoony. I mention this because we've got this: for Maxwell Dillion in the Amazing Spider-man 2 movie. Seriously, Marvel you can make a character empathetic without going overboard. If anything this makes me less sad for them and more like rolleyes.gif rolleyes.gif rolleyes.gif rolleyes.gif rolleyes.gif

Highlights of the movie: The armors (which I wish we could've seen more one on one, but that has no bearing on how good the movie is), the last battle,

Dislikes: There's a kid who's kind of important but not really... I forgot his name (hopefully he's important to the marvel universe otherwise... why?

Oblivion 7/10

Great! Firstly I thoroughly enjoyed the visual design throughout the movie. It was beautiful and I think a lot of the trends you'll see in the designs (clothing, architecture, tech) of Oblivion are strong indications of where scifi is headed these days. However the movie did subtly utilized scifi motifs that remind me of the epic scifi films of the 80s.

I was mildly intrigued by Cruise's character and easily empathized with him but the other characters felt confusing. The movie had a fantastic start and a solid ending but the middle was a little weak.

Maybe my bias towards video games is making me give it a perfect score or maybe it's the nostalgia it brought, either way I thought is was an awesome film

So, I realized I never gave this movie an proper review.

Iron man 3: 7.5/10

It was an pretty fun movie that managed to surpass the awkwardness from the previeous film, but no doubt the "twist" that happens during half of the movie give such an blow to it that it never quite recovers. I like that Stark uses more of his wits, but you can't help it but to feel that the armors never have enough screentime.

You have summed it up the way i'd describe it too. It's funny you mention the lack of armor screentime. I bet it was a matter of budget, animating those suits must take a lot of time which means they take money.

Doubt it was budget reasons, since they know for a fact it'd make a killing.  The main theme of the 3rd movie is if it's the suit that makes Tony, Iron Man or if Tony needs the suit to be Iron Man.

We got the answer, of course, Tony without the suit is Batman.  :fu:

Because it's 20th Anniversary was yesterday I decided for the lulz to Re-Visit the Super Mario Bros. Movie.

Super Mario Bros. (1993): 6/10

It sucks yes but it's not the worst Video Game Movie ever, especially when you compare it to alot of Uwe Boll's kitten. What saves it from being Bargain Bin is Bob Hoskins and John Leguizamo's chemistry together though both have said in interviews they didn't have any fun and could only work together after they got drunk. Also despite the fact he doesn't look the part (besides that stupid haircut) the late Dennis Hopper was a great Villain, he was just so over the top and enjoyable. I had alot of fun revisiting this after so many years and if you can look past the fact it's not faithful whatsoever to the Source material I think you will too. Just turn your expectations down a tad.

Fast and Furious 6 10/10 INCOMING FANGASM

There are movies where you have to suspend disbelief, and understand what you are watching.

This movie is the best one in the franchise.(Which means a lot, after Fast Five.) This movie is one of the best of the year. This movie is one of the best action movies of all time!

Justin Lin leaves a lasting impression on the fast and furious franchise, with this movie. He is the one that found a way to make Tokyo Drift entertaining, when the plot was practically garbage. When he got to take full control starting with the Fast and The Furious, he took it away from street racing, and into full blown action, the very best kind.

I love how everything comes full circle, especially where they end up at the finale. The post credits scene teases the next film as well as the Marvel Movies teased The Avengers. Fast Five and Six are kind of like the Avengers of the franchise,

Lin brought a lot of characters back and made it work. Tyreese SUCKED in 2 Fast 2 Furious. Justin Lin found a way to limit his screen time, and actually make him funny. He leaves the action to the pros, The Rock and Vin Diesel.

Getting The Rock in this franchise was genius, The Rock may be my favorite action star right now. He should be in everything, Fast and Furious 7-8-9, The Avengers, The Expendables, everything!

And its a sad farewell we must bid to Sung Kang, and Han. The best character in this series after Vin Diesel.

Hes better than Paul Walker, Luda, Tyreese, all the villains etc.

Han was the only reason to watch Tokyo Drift, the main protag sucked. And to have gotten to see where Han got his money and why he ended up where he did was awesome. Why he have to die ;_;

I'm pissed that they are forcing the production of the next movie, because we are not going to get Justin Lin back, and quite possibly The Rock.

In anticipation of Man Of Steel I revisited all the previous Superman films recently, including both cuts of Superman 2.

Superman The Movie (1978): 10/10

Still the Gold Standard for Superhero Movies even 35 years later. Christopher Reeve was and still is the best Superman.

Superman II (Richard Lester) (1980): 7/10

Especially when you compare this to Richard Donner's superior cut you start to notice the problems with this one. The most glaring being the addition of more comedic bits (that will sadly be more prevelant in 3) as well as the whole "Amnesia Kiss" thing. Not to mention the fact that in this cut Superman basically murders Zod, Non and Ursa (well Lois kills Ursa and Non kills himself but still).

Superman II (Richard Donner Cut) (1980/2006): 9/10

Now I know what you're thinking "This cut re-hashes the Spin The Earth Backwards Ending" well the thing about that is Donner originally intended that to be the ending of Superman 2 but Alexander Salkind convinced Donner to use it in the first one. Despite some shoddy and unfinished effects this is definitely the superior version.

Superman III (1983): 0/10

A joyless mess that attepts to be funny but it isn't, nor is it any fun and just feels like a chore to watch. Coupled with the worst Villains ever and a horrible performance by Richard Pryor this is in my opinion leagues worse than Superman 4. Speaking of which....

Superman IV: The Quest For Peace (1987): 4/10

Yes it's horrible but it's fun to watch for its lack of production value (here's a Drinking Game: Take a shot every time they use that "Superman Flies At The Camera" shot) and is alot of fun to make fun of.

Superman Returns (2006): 8/10

I still contest that this was a Good Movie, yes it was paced poorly but the performances in this are great especially Brandon Routh, Frank Langella and Kevin Spacey.
