FT & Naruto's movie are released about 3 weeks apart. That's pretty close and will be a tight competition for revenues.

Plus it's not like I really take this manga very seriously anyway. I mean does anyone? Because it's not that spectacular. Don't get me wrong...I like reading it, but it's not anything special.

Well, I'm not completely caught up on the manga yet (still ~30 chapters to go tongue.gif), but I guess the appeal for me has more been in the cast of characters than the actual story. I loved the story in some of the arcs, namely the Phantom Lord, Laxus, and Edolas stories, but for most of the other arcs I haven't exactly found myself awake at night anticipating the next chapter. I guess I just tend to forgive some of the shortcomings in the story since I love the characters so much. They're all so quirky and unique. I can't really think of too many heroes I don't like in FT.

I almost think a strong cast is more crucial than a great story, if I really had to choose between the two. With Naruto, for example, some of the 'main' characters are so underrepresented, it really feels like Kishi only cares about two or three of them. And so, when the arc starts to get boring, there's really nothing to keep fans reading with the same fervor, like I tend to do with Fairy Tail (regardless of how much I like the arc).

Of course, this is all just my opinion. Just thought I'd offer my perspective on the issue. happy.gif

Actually, that's the appeal for me too. I love so many of the characters. It's the first series I think I've ever shipped four different pairings for at the same time. o_o Usually I have one pairing in a series that appeals to me and I glom all over it and the fandom, but just sort of ignore everyone else. With FT, there's the characters I'm shipping and dozens more that I really enjoy reading fanfics and doujinshi about. Unfortunately, the fanfic writers of FF.net are of the usual caliber of writing, so I have to sort the wheat from the chaff and in a few cases I just said screw it and wrote a story myself. laugh.gif

I think a good story has to find the right balance between characters & story, and I think that's the thing FT has over the Big 3. It's also kind of like FMA in this regard (which, I guess we could say FT is a spiritual successor to FMA)

FT has a bunch of interesting characters while at the same time has lots of mysteries waiting to be solved in the story. The plotline is even more ambiguous than OP, which is why I really like this story.

Except FMA was deep and had actual themes that weren't shoved down my face every single fight. FT will never compare to FMA personally. I enjoy FT, but FMA is on a whole other level compared to this manga.

It being a spiritual successor to FMA doesn't mean it's better. Far from it. But however, FT's surging fame can very well be likened to FMA's fame. It took FMA a long time to gain its reputed fame, as FT will do so one day.

I've always thought to myself that Soul Eater is kinda a successor to FMA due to it being released monthly. But no one can totally replace another series because the stories are totally different. FT will replace Naruto as one of the big 3 once the series ends.

I think he said that to deliberately provoke Elfman into losing control. The fight would be too easy, otherwise.

The one with the long pointy nose in Raven Tail cheated and used his own magic and cancelled the spell. I guess it's like Touma's left hand in Toaru Majjutsu no Index, and because the spell was such a large field spell it meant an outsider could use his magic and get away with it.

I think this was a good chapter this week. Elfman actually managed to beat Bacchus through strategy rather than brute strength. And Evergreen, of all people, pointing out that "he's the kind of guy that will pull through" send a little bit of shipper tingle down my spine. But the real meat is the fact that the organizers of the games are deliberately causing the bad blood between the two guilds in an effort to get Lucy... I think they were pretty impressed with Uranometria.

Rather than impressed, I think they know what that magic is capable of all along. Lucy seems to be the chosen one or something and they know she is capable of that spell from the start. We don't even know what that magic does exactly or how it came about. The first time Lucy used it was unintentional.

I don't think she's a "chosen one" so much as she's the most powerful summoner on the planet right now. I think stellar spirit mages are already fairly rare to begin with, and then she had to go and turn out to be off the charts due to a combo of dumb luck, insight, talent, and pluck.

Ok.... this pretty much proves the spirits knows something about Zeref and Lucy's role in all this. Think about it, Arcadias wants Lucy's abilities, there's the mystery surrounding her mother, and the fact that her mother knew something about the true source of magic, her date of "death", and the fact Mashima slyly made sure Zeref never saw Lucy face-to-face. All this points to her as a "chosen one"

Regarding the spirits, I'd bet the King put a lock on their lips so they wouldn't tell until it's time. I think this'll make for some good drama with Loki and Fairy Tail. Loki would essentially be betraying Fairy Tail by not telling them the dangers Lucy will face. And likely put the guild in danger. Also, out of them all, Caprico is likely the one that has the most knowledge on Zeref considering he'd been working under Hades for 17 years. The hint that he knew something is in the chapter where they (Lucy & Caprico) talk about the true source of magic.

Bumpin' this thread to give a heads-up:

The new trailer for the movie is up.

Looks like the character designs are much closer to Mashima's style. Not surprising, considering he's working on the character designs. Also, it looks like they did away with the magic circle thingie in the regular series. Must have been part of Mashima's request.

Koolkat, would you mind telling me from which episode is that scene from your sig??
