Also to me, I don't think Sasuke respects the Hokage at all. That includes Tsunade. He sees them as people whose actions led to the extermination of the Uchiha/Itachi's horrendous life, so I don't think he puts enough value in Tsunade's words to accept her passing on the Hokage position to Naruto.

Not only does he not respect the people that were and are Hokage, but he doesn't respect the position either. The fact that he announces that he doesn't care about what anyone else thinks regarding his new desire to become the Hokage shows that. You can't be a good leader if you're going to ignore the people that you are leading. As Itachi told Naruto, "The village doesn't acknowledge you because you become Hokage. You become Hokage because the village acknowledges you." Sasuke doesn't understand that... That's why, like you, I can't see him stepping down if Tsunade gives her final blessing for Naruto to take the position. Sasuke simply doesn't care, and he won't care until Naruto makes him think otherwise.

Guys, I think I get the reason to make Sasuke want to be Hokage. Hear me out:

In order to be Hokage you need everyone's acknowledgment which Naruto practically has. The only person who seems to think other wise is none other then Sasuke himself, Naruto's ultimate wall to break.

The reason Sasuke wants to be Hokage is because he thinks that no one else but himself can't fix the mess the previous generation made that lead to the demise of the Uchiha. Sasuke doesn't believe in Naruto, he doesn't trust that he would be able to do what Sasuke has in mind. In order words, Sasuke doesn't acknowledge Naruto as the rightful man to become Hokage.

The battle between Naruto and Sasuke should culminate with Sasuke finally recognizing Naruto at every possible level: a friend, a brother, an equal teammate, and most important as the right man to become Hokage. Sasuke at the end of the battle should acknowledge that Naruto will indeed be able to realize the best future that Sasuke wishes there to be.

And thus Naruto will finally be able to get the recognition of the last person he wanted to, therefore being able to take the position of Hokage with full spirits and determination to bring better peace to the Shinobi world.

The Rookies said it perfectly - Sasuke has been rogue for too long, and committed crimes that cannot be brushed aside. While we all may agree that Danzo ultimately got what was coming to him, the assassination of one of Konoha's Elders, a member of the Council, indeed the acting-Hokage at the time, can't be ignored. And there's more - the attack of the Kage Sumit meant that Sasuke is now criminal wanted almost everyone. The other nations would never stand by and watch Konoha allow Sasuke to waltz in and take the title - it would tear the Alliance apart. And Sasuke's callous retort that he doesn't care about the others' objections to his proclamation or how they feel about, has only made it worse for him. Shikamaru was spot on - it's impossible, Sasuke will NEVER become Hokage through democratic vote. No amount of heroism from Sasuke now will change that, and given that Naruto has already challenged him with a proclamation of his own, it leaves Sasuke with only one option - he will attempt to take the title by force.

If he did though, it would be rather ironic - a hostile takeover bid by Sasuke would mean he'd be setting out to complete the coup d'etat his Clan were about to initiate before they were wiped out by Itachi (and Obito). In all his talk of protecting the Konoha his brother gave his life for, Sasuke would instead become the very thing that Itachi had sacrificed everything to protect Konoha from.

first of all holy **** . i missed the opening of the new debate thread. man ! so as it got a bit boaring and i was a bit busy i couldnt join the thread so lets start. and i see that the topic is on sasuke. i didnt understant why sasuke comes back instantly and announces that he is going to be the hokage. after all this happened. why did he say so? and what kishi is planning?

Now I'm even more convinced that Sasuke along with Taka can become some sort of wandering ninjas. The RtN!Akatsuki scenario is also quite possible: a ninja organization that helps kages to keep peace and fight criminals.

Now I'm even more convinced that Sasuke along with Taka can become some sort of wandering ninjas. The RtN!Akatsuki scenario is also quite possible: a ninja organization that helps kages to keep peace and fight criminals.

Oooo that is actually a good scenario, imagine Sasuke re-forming the Akatsuki with team taka in the end as peace keepers. It's certainly possible.

This post just reminded me why I never go to Naruto Wiki anymore ....

Let the fans believe what they want. More than likely it's just going to come crashing down on them when NaruSaku becomes canon. I'm not worried, I really don't care what they say anymore. NaruHina's probably dead IMO.

@reddragon - That's an interesting prediction; it ties in with Naruto's desire  for Sasuke to acknowledge him, and a win for Naruto would mean two things - Naruto gets Sasuke's recognition, and leaves the path clear for him to succeed Tsunade.

 

However, with regards to my previous post, Naruto must defeat Sasuke in battle, without aid or interference, where there can be no doubt on who is superior. I expect a lot of drama going into that fight, which I'm sure Kishi will start building up once the common foes (Madara and Obito) are removed from the equation.

 

Off-topic: A few agonising hours unable to log on, but it was worth it. Snazzy upgrade - and quite a coincidence, considering the chapter we just had. Here's to the new H&E!!

This is a stupid question, but Sakura knows that minato is the 4th but more importantly Narutos dad right? Also does she know anything about Kushina? (In the manga)
