I'm also leaning towards the romantic context because there is no way Kishi will end the pairing wars so easily. But then again, we have to understand why the opinions are completely divided.

There is a reason why some interpret is as her referring to be his equal.
If it is romantic, it contradicts the statement before, "After this war, I will stop chasing you."
So some people interpret is as "I'm going to stand on equal grounds with you instead of following your back."

Either case, Kishi is sneaky because he gave us a statement that could go either way cool.gif

I think it would be easier to interpret as platonic if she hadn't mentioned holding his hand. You don't desire to hold the hand of just your admirer or someone who you want to be equal to. That specific action is almost always limited to couples or sometimes family members. Generally, its seen as romantic, especially if its a girl or boy saying this about the opposite sex.

Holding hands is a romantic gesture. There's no two ways about it. We have to accept that Hinata still has romantic feelings for Naruto. I don't go around holding hands with my female friends. A rare hug maybe but holding hands is too intimate for platonic friends. But keep in mind these are all Hinata's desires, nothing new here. Seems like Naruto will have to flat out reject Hinata for her to give up.

Yeah, I also get the feeling that Kishi was frustrated with all those NH hate mail. But one thing I don't know is if he made Hinata a pairing fodder to send his message across that Hinata is not important or as a fanservice. It could go both ways seeing that the fans are generally happier with panels of her thinking only about, "Naruto-kun".

Nah, Hinata's not the type to be jealous or start a fight with her friends. Her personality is meant to be kind smile.gif

If Hinata is not jealous with how Sakura and Naruto are close with each other, it just might be that she really loves him.
There's this saying in Japan that "being in love hurts, but real love doesn't."
So, she might be happy seeing that Naruto is happy with the girl he's in love with rolleyes.gif

I also can't be 100% sure to the context of that message. The opinion is different among Japanese too. It's either a romantic context or referring to her being equal with him.

Can't be sure of that now, Hinata is not shy around Naruto anymore. Still, I believe Hinata does not deserve to have Naruto all to her self. She either has to share Naruto with Sakura, or don't have him all. I also want Sakura to compete for Naruto... This will make her character look more determine for Naruto's heart.

@DK
The way it is, yes. Either Hinata hasn't given up because Kishimoto wants to milk the pairings 'til the end, (Most Likely) or Hinata needs to get some sense 'cause I don't remember her ever being told she's not exactly much of anything. Can't understand anyone, weaker than her little sister etc. etc.

My opinion on why Hinata was made up is because Kishi needed to have a "rivalry" for Sakura's feelings to develop to love Naruto. He probably knew there would be a ton of fans out there who would support her, but her only heavy fanbaseis here in America (as far as I know anyway) and Kishi has stated he dosen't pay attention to us Americans (my arent we special) So in a way, this alone levels NH to the ground. NH isn't even popular in Japan as far as I know. NS and SS are some of the highest I think. But if Kishi dosen't pay attention to the U.S, that takes a HUGE chunk out of the NH fanbase world wide.

Oh I know Hinata meant it on a romantic context. Which is why I'm disappointed in her character. It's just the way she worded it. It sounded like she didn't have faith in him
or something. At least that was my intial reaction. I've already accepted that Hinata still loves Naruto and for some unknown reason she thinks Naruto feels the same.
I really don't want Hinata to get her heart broken for she doesn't deserve that and I have no idea how Naruto is going to handle it. He wouldn't want to hurt her feelings or anything
but also wouldn't force himself to be with her when he's in love with someone else. I don't know how he'll reject her but he'll have to if she goes through with what she says. I think the only
reason he hasn't responded to her confession is he doesn't want to hurt her feelings. You know how nice he is and besides that, he has never rejected anyone before so he doesn't know what
to do with the situation.

Hinata's speech has many interpretations surprisingly besides the obvious one. And really, whose to say that Hinata really will voice her love for to him again? Sure she sounded bold recently
but for all we know the minute she sees Naruto again she'll lose her nerve. I honestly wouldn't be surprised if that happened. Her confidence are always short bursts anyways and they never last
long. So that may be a troll for NaruHina fans. wink.gif Knowing Kishi, that isn't out of the question. It may be payback towards all the NH fanmail he got bashing Sakura. But even if she does, I see NaruHina as
no threat to NaruSaku. It never was to begin with. The only people getting in the way of NaruSaku being canon already is themselves(Both Naruto and Sakura are to blame at this point.)

As for the next Naruto/Sakura/Hinata reunion, who knows what will happen. Probably Sakura stubbornly refusing to leave him to fight alone and Naruto eventually giving in. I don't think
Naruto will give Hinata a lot of attention. As for the Hinata being jealous thing, that probably won't happen. Hinata doesn't seem like the jealous type to me but Sakura is of course(Which would
explain why Sakura was bothered when realizing that Hinata loved Naruto.) In the next reunion, I'm sure NaruSaku moments will happen after all the trolling we recieved(Chapter 540 for example.)
so I'm excited. a_dance.gif

Umm, no That wasn't his intention. He didn't make Hinata to be a rival for Sakura. She was just kinda...there. her popularity escalated on to the fans' accord. Anyways I hate to admit it but NS still isn't as popular as some other pairings even in Japan, Yaoi pairings take the first several slots, then SS and NS a couple to a few slots down from that for the latest popularity poll for pairings

Naruto aint going to hook up with anyone else but Sakura. But harshly... Hinata is just a bonus girl if Sakura is willing to share Naruto with her. Any other reason, NH is dead. I don't need the facts from the manga. I just know profoundly. Just being skeptical^-^

Anyway, anyone that can explain just what in the world the value of Hinata even existing is? I mean really, I see no reason for her to exist other than competition for Naruto (Albeit BAD competition).

Hinata is... well headscratch.gif ...she's just there. It seems like Hinata has no purpose in the plot or storyline at all. Just someone to add drama to pairings and have someone other than Sakura have feellings
for him. I think she was created strictly for pairing purposes. I sometimes wish Hinata was never created becasue she is an unneccessary character. So conclusion: Hinata=Pairing fodder. sleep.gif

Well, not necessarily. Hinata DID have a point in Part 1 - develop Neji's whole tragedy and the Hyuuga drama. However, that has been resolved and I think she's as useless as Tenten now. And another purpose might have been to show that someone Naruto's own age believed in him, which was shot out in the Chunin exams when they all pretty much acknowledged him. So she became useless by the time Neji got rid of the 'destiny' thing.

Are sharing a guy with two girls common in Western Countries? We've never heard of that in Japan.

Anyways I'd rather have a Naruto x Sakura x Sasuke than a Naruto x Sakura x Hinata, since I love Naruto x Sasuke and okay with Sakura x Sasuke and that Sasuke will be redeemed in the end happy.gif

But then again, Naruto is not the type to share or be in a three way relationship.
So the addition of Hinata/Sasuke in Naruto x Sakura seems unlikely(but we still have fanfiction).

I think Hinata's role now is what Sakura's role used to be.

In Part 2, I think she's the character people feel like they can relate to. With all those super powers and ninja stuff going on she's the only one who we civilians can relate to. She's the character that is easiest to understand the most. And she narrates how the main character is strong so she's like the bridge between us readers and the manga. That's my take.

Some ppl say she's the sun tho.

... I really don't see it that way. Honestly if you hadn't mentioned it, I couldn't of seen it as a possibility at all. She's only the "easiest" to understand because that's what her character consists of: Naruto. It's pretty damn simple to understand, do I find it relateable? No. Sorry, but I really don't see how many people can relate to a shy girl who stalks her crush, stutters, and passes out whenever she see's him, know's he's interested in someone else, yet still chases after him and is so sure of herself that she's gonna win him over in the middle of a war. Like someone said before, her little sister is stronger than her. I find that as pretty embarrassing. I'm not bashing her, I'm just being full blown serious.

Narrating Naruto? ... I really don't see that either. If Hinata wasn't around, we'd still get along just fine with building that bridge between readers and manga. I don't understand why she's so important as people make her out to be - cause she's not. She hasn't done anything. sleep.gif

Sorry had to rant.

Err, it's been in several Senin manga and is extremely common in hentai doujinshi. It's even suggested in some of the shonen "harem" manga. Moreso than you see in western animation and comics for adults, and far far moreso than in western comics targeted at adolescent boys. The idea of it is much more likely to come from manga and anime. The only place you commonly see it in the west is in porn. (of which teen and 20 something and younger 30 something guys have been far more exposed to than older 30 something and older guys when they they were in their teens and twenties- much more and far more hardcore stuff too. I'm sure that's true for Japanese guys as well.)

And Fenris, definitely. Kishimoto still says Sakura is the character that is meant to be the most "normal" the one readers are meant to connect to Naruto's world through. Sakura sure does seem the most like a real girl to me, strongly reminds me of friends back in college who were female Japanese exchange students. Out of the 15 women I knew most were closest to Sakura in personality, none were anything like Hinata, one was similar to Kushina (heh she would greet me halfway down the hallway very boisterously every day, and always seemed to be so full of energy wink.gif a couple of them were a kind of like Ino (kind of Alpha, very sure of themselves as women), a couple of others were kind of like manga canon Sailor Mars. (reserved and refined yet assured and intelligent- my Nihongo sensei Tashiro san was one of those. She wasn't just my sensei but was a friend). I learned a lot about the real lives of Japanese women from her and my other friends back in the 80's.

Hinata has always struck me as Japanese take on the typical western stereotype of a Japanese woman than anything like a real Japanese woman.

Oh yeah. I forgot about the chunin exams. tongue.gif She was needed then and did serve a purpose for Naruto to prove a point to Neji. But now, Hinata is nothing but a kunoichi whose only purpose in

@Fenris: You really hate Hinata don't you? I don't particulary like her either and she can be annoying. Hinata is selfish, and reminds me of Part 1 Sakura who didn't give a damn whether
Sasuke liked her or not and chased him for her sake. How sad.

Hinata is in my opinion, a character that is really easy to love but at the same time really easy to hate. What I mean by that you can sympathize with her easily and that she's so "shy, softspoken, sweet,
gentle, and innocent." The rabid NaruHina fans only acknowledge her good points (in there opinion) and not her faults. She's really easy to hate for those of us who find her shyness off-putting, unconfident
demeanor, and sometimes selfish nature. And of course, her destroyed character development and love for Naruto that doesn't make sense. Really, the only reason I don't hate Hinata
is her gentle, sweet nature but that's really it.

I won't let you die ... your stupid dream ... now it's ... it's right in front of us!!"                                                                             ----Sakura Haruno
