And this is why I'm no longer her fan. After how she reacted after Neji's death. She couldn't even even take responsibility that she's partially to blame for his death. I'm not talking about her inability to protect Naruto, but her self concentric feelings that she has for naruto has clouded her mind. All she sees is that naruto needs to be protected. And she doesn't see the people around her are dying left and right and all she can do is smile a be sidetracked about naruto's close proximity, rather than she should be apologizing to Neji and actually open her eyes for once and see the world she lives on... stands for once. Love ones are dying. The people at home or her like her little sister Hanabi and Hyuuga Clan's lives are at stake.
Didn't she ever thought about whats going to happen to Hanabi or her remaining if she failed to win the war after witnessing someone precious to her died before her very own eyes? The answer is no. It has been made clear even since Part 1. Hinata only cares for Naruto and herself. Do you honestly believe that she would give killer bee the full support (same she has done for naruto) if he was the key to win the war instead of naruto? I honestly have my doubts after reading 600+ chapters with Hinata in them.
And if this is Kishi's answer for a NH pairing bond to happen at the end of the manga. Then by all means, he deserves to be called the worse writer in manga history.
It's always the quiet ones ....
Joking aside, I partially disagree with you. Hinata is a good-hearted individual with good intentions, and I don't think she only cares about Naruto and herself. Hinata is selfish true and a Naruto satellite, but not "Omg she's such a b*tch" selfish. I believe Hinata cares about others, but her Naruto tunnel vision constantly hinders her. If anything
ever involves Naruto, it's like all she sees his Naruto and all she focuses on is her feelings for him. That is a
terrible trait for a character to have. She sees everything through rose-tinted glasses when it comes to her love for him, ironically reflecting her fanbase and their love for
her. Hinata needs to grow up, and I don't mean that in a harsh way. Perhaps my biggest problem with Hinata is in 573, when unlike the rest (who we reasonably focusing on fighting, as they should), all she cared about was being with Naruto
romantically. Why would you think something like that during a war? It's so immature.
Tbh, I miss the Hinata who was satisfied with Naruto's acknowledgement and nothing more in Pt. 1. Now she expects so much more from him, she's determined to be with him. Naruto's acknowledgement of her strength isn't enough anymore. I'd be okay with this, if only she still seemed to care about her Clan and making her father proud. But no, instead of working to fulfil her role, she's still chasing boys and obsessing. Reminds of Part 1 Sakura with her feelings for Sasuke. She neglected her training and focused on her looks so Sasuke could like her. Hinata's doing the same, procastinating her Hyuga heiress role and instead putting "Naruto-kun wil notice me now!" above it. That disappoints me.
If Kishi could only do what you suggested about her heiress role and thinking about her family other than Naruto, I
know I could like her. I don't really have any problems with her, it's just her innate selfishness when it comes to Naruto and her love for him that throws me off. It brings out both the best and the worst in her. It's nice she gets inspired by him, but she's blinded to everything else. Never will I forget the moment that she arrived with the alliance, totally ignored the bleeding Guy and Kakashi, and worriedly asked "Naruto-kun, are you alright?!" when he wasn't even that hurt to begin with.

In some ways, Hinata reminds me of a character from the TV show Buffy the Vampire Slayer named Angel (To clarify, he
is a boy my friends.

). Buffy was the heroine, and Angel one of her main love interests. Angel's life was a complete and total hellhole beyond imagination, he had absolutely no friends and a lot of other terrible things happened that I can't begin to cover. But then he saw Buffy one day and matter-of-factly claimed to her later he fell in love with her when he first saw her. Total gushy "love at first sight" story. By seeing her, Buffy motivated him to be someone and to change himself, to help people. She inspired him. Just like Hinata with Naruto, he "saved" her and stopped her from giving up. She also always liked him, too. Like Hinata, Angel also loved the image of inspiration and hope Buffy had with him, he didn't truly know her as a person until he got into a relationship with her. Another thing I realized is that Hinata's obsession is similiar to the unhealthy love Angel had for Buffy (Though amazingly, his was more severe). She was
literally his world and he could never stay away from her. No one ever mattered like she did, he once stated that himself. She "saved him", so he could never let it go.
Clearly, Angel was a very needy guy with her. He also had some problems with petty jealousies and possessiveness to other guys who were into her, even after he broke up with her. Some of his key character flaws: pettiness, jealous, and overprotectiveness
.
Angel's character was as one-dimensial and bland as Hinata's is. He was literally nothing more, but a guy who was in love with her. Hinata's terribly Naruto-centric, Angel was terribly Buffy-centric. He disappointed me and was boring, though his story was sympathetic. It was only until after three bad character development years, he broke up with her for her own good because he was holding her back (Long story. You'd have to watch the TV show to get what I mean). Once he left Buffy, and cemented his own friends and goals eventually, he became extremely likable character for me. His satelitte tendencies were gone and you could no longer describe him in one sentence. Angel grew
away from his obsession and constant "Buffy, Buffy" thoughts. True, Angel continued to love her years and years after he left her. It never went away or lessened at all. But at least he was
more than his feelings for her. It's because of that he's my second favorite character in the series and I actually ship his relationship with Buffy.
Angel is the Hinata-type example in romance that
succeded. Hinata is still a failure in that aspect. My entire point with this is that if Hinata grows away from her obsession and learns to focus on other things like her heiress role, I feel like I could like her. I want to, I really do. She's certainly no Angel with his badass fighting, assertive personality, and funny dark quips but it's a start. In my eyes, Hinata can only truly grow when she realizes Naruto is not everything. I'd prefer her to get over him, but I'd deal with it okay if she just takes her Hyuga status more seriously.
