Thank you Joe Barton
I also found this blog entry wonderfully hilarious

Tod Robberson / Editorial Writer
The more I think about it, Rep. Joe Barton should apologize for apologizing over his first apology. He didn't need to apologize for standing up for the small people like BP. I mean, someone has to defend the rights of corporations to fill our coastal waters with oil, kill off marine life and destroy the livelihoods of millions of coastal residents. When governments barge in and throw their weight around the way the Obama administration has done with its outrageous demand for compensation, we have to be careful that the rights of defenseless corporations like BP are not trampled on in the process. Joe Barton was bold for speaking out and being quick to apologize to the clearly downtrodden and browbeaten head of BP over the way he had been abused and maligned, as well as for the way the administration unfairly tried to interfere with BP's right to make lots of money without interference.
Thank goodness the GOP has people like Joe Barton who are willing to speak their minds without thinking about the impact of their words, just like BP was willing to drill and make reckless, cost-cutting decisions without regard to the impact those decisions would have down the road. We clearly need more shoot-from-the-hip thinkers to keep our country moving forward and to ensure our oceans and wildlife areas remain well lubricated.
I think the GOP needs more people like Joe Barton and Sarah Palin, who thinks that experience plugging a dike is reason enough to bring in the Dutch to help us with our little oil problem. And thank goodness that the GOP has so many blind, uncritical followers who are willing to accept what these people say at face value.
These are the types of leaders that America truly needs. So Joe Barton, I apologize to you for the shoddy treatment you're receiving. Shame on your GOP colleagues for the way they berated you. When 2012 rolls around, I say the GOP presidential ticket needs only two names at the top: Sarah Palin and Joe Barton.

I agree that it was idiotic, partly because of the timing, but partly because completely wiffs on why what Obama did might be considered a problem or, rather how he did it.
I think Krauthhammer sums it well:

The Democrats have that South Carolina problem, and that North Carolina problem.
The Republicans have that Joe Barthon and Sarah Palin problem.
The two parties seems to be in the verge of collapsing. Thank you God, you do exist

Alvin Greene!
That was bad, but not significant. Neither would have beat DeMint.

And my question since the words were first uttered from his lips is...at what point did this *not* seem like a good idea to him, because *clearly* he thought he was being absolutely brilliant.
But good 'ol Joe just single-handedly made it a *very* sweet week for Democrats by taking the eyes of the world off of them, and onto the fact that a Republican just apologized to the company responsible for the worst man-made disaster in America's history.
Edit - Oh, and Barton isn't the only one who is possibly making life a little easier for Democrats...quite a few Republican's are shooting themselves in the foot:

I really think that Haley Barbour has sounded like the mayor from Jaws through this whole thing.

I understand the reasoning behind this, but I still don't think it's a good idea.

It wasn't too long ago people were worried that this would be a depression era to top the Great Depression of the 20's and 30's but Obama's stimulus package among other things slowed that downward trend. Now, many people I know who had lost their jobs are back to work, although others are still losing their homes....

Faulty credit caused the recession, all Obama stimulus package did was give billions of dollars into banks, and corporations so they can keep afloat. Problem is that soon the United States will have to pay the bill.
Basically every citizen of the United States will have to pay. $42,254.87 in order to pay the full bill of the debt, there is no nation or empire on Earth that has managed to keep its prosperity for more than 5 years with such a mess. Now im going to excuse Obama, he is just following what seems to be the politically correctness of the century. Look what happened to Greece. Budget cuts = Riots on the streets.

The big question remains, how do you fix a recession if you can't spend any money?
I agree blindly throwing money into the system wont help, so maybe the money just needs to be spent wisely.

The banks loaned that same money to the government with interest.
Just so the banks could lend back to the people in order for the people to buy their brand new Mercedes.
You know what i think. I think that they were trying to make people forget about the economic downturn. I think they were trying to keep the people happy by giving them credit, make it look as if all their troubles just disappeared, and hoping to keep their seats in Congress.
But fortunately some people know better.
