Ah, thanks Leo! This helps me gain a better visualization of what I'm trying to think. smile.gif

Ah, right! You have a point there.

Well, considering that Naruto is like a kid with lack of manners, I understand that he refers to others with terms like these (I only remember calling Sakura, Kakashi, Yamato by titles... and maybe other I've forgot)

I just found it kinda weird on Sakura I guess... sweat.gif

sakura's just comfortable around naruto. so she calls him that.

kushina just called minato.."minato"

so im sure its fine XD

So if she doesn't use those terms, isn't that a sign that she sees Naruto as something more than a friend, or at least, as a very close friend (even closer than Sasuke-kun)?

I asked my Japanese friend (who reads Naruto) this very thing about a month ago. I asked:

QUOTE
Naruto calls Sakura, Sakura-chan. She calls Sasuke, Sasuke-kun. She calls Naruto, Naruto. Since Naruto is known to not have a lot of class, I assume when he does use an honorific -- Sakura-chan, Tsunade-baachan, Kakashi-sensei, Ero Sennin (okay, maybe not that one, lol) -- he's showing affection or respect. Okay. We know Sakura fancies Sasuke, so her calling him Sasuke-kun makes sense. But she simply calls Naruto by his name with no honorific. Is that supposed to mean she doesn't think enough of him to use one, or that they are close enough that she doesn't need to? Is this just one of the ways Kishimoto is muddying the relationship waters and obscuring how Sakura really feels about Naruto?

His answer was, "Yes, yes, and yes." I was willing to take his word for it, especially since it confirmed what I'd wondered for ages -- why the use of honorifics between the leads is the way it is. It's just one guy's opinion, although he theoretically understands the subtleties of his own culture.

EDIT: I should add that when my friend said yes to Sakura not thinking enough of Naruto to use an honorific, he was referring to early on in the story.

At first, the reason Sakura didn't use any honorifics when referring to Naruto is because she didn't respect him; now, it's because she's close to him. This is pointed out in Chapter 311: Nicknames.

"-chan" is a diminutive suffix, and means that the speaker finds the person endearing. Naruto addresses her as "Sakura-chan" because he likes her.

Zero honorifics only have two meaning and none are romantic

1 No respect... or
2 You are very use to the person now so you keep calling them the same way...

Sakura say Ino or Ino Pig, but she did start calling her Ino-chan.

Sai because she hate him at 1st and the same you can say for Naruto.

And Sasuke kun in Sakura's case is because she likes him, Sakura doesn't respect him any more she still likes him.

Quick question

Has anyone here, or does anyone know of a place where someone has collected all the manga pages (or at least the chapter numbers or titles) that can possibly be used as evidence to support the development of NS.?

"Quick question" LONG ANSWER!!!

Ask ciardha or Fenris, I think they have like a library of these...

But applying common sense works too, just compare Naruto and Sakura's conversations towards each other in part 1 to their conversations in part 2?

See any difference? If not, then let's use the Kakashi bell test as an example...

PART 1!!!

- Naruto and Sakura were very distant from each other (both emotionally and geographically)
- Naruto paid no attention to his surroundings and compromised the safety of his team-mates...
- Sakura was more concerned about "Sasuke-kun"...
- Sakura reluctantly offered some of her food after Sasuke did so...

PART 2!!!

- Naruto and Sakura stayed close to each other and watched each others backs...
- Naruto was constantly aware of Sakura's position...
- Sakura's thoughts were on the fight and the chemistry/teamwork between the two have increased a lot...
- Sakura was very chivalrous to Naruto throughout...

Now while these points were already poignant within the manga, I'm highlighting these points because it not only shows the increased maturity of both ninja, but it also shows that they trust each other more... (trust is important in a relationship, no?)

Still not convinced? Let's scroll forward a fair few chapters then...

Kushina, "Try and find a girl that's a lot like me..."

Now whilst this excerpt has been quoted out of context by many other shippers, the original context was plainly personality-based and not based on the fact that both Kushina and a certain Hyuuga heiress have rather developed mammories...

Based on the flashback shown during the self-same and following chapter, Kushina was shown to be a Tsundere type-A (otherwise known as "Misty Syndrome" or "Sakura Personality Clone")...

Finally, the clincher...

Have a look at the signature of Miss Fenris... And take into account that Kishimoto likes to use other characters as parallels or extended metaphors for the points he gets across... (i.e. Sannin/Team Minato, etc... = Team 7)

If you need some more though, I'd be happy to fish through the interwebs for some more biggrin.gif

Slextrem from YouTube had compiled the manga pages of all the NS moments into a video; unfortunately, she deleted that, and all of her other videos for that matter. A shame, really; her videos were very entertaining and interesting. I wonder why she did it, though it's probably because she lost interest in Naruto. But, I digress.
I'm thinking about making my own version of that, actually. The only thing is, it will take quite a while because I haven't read the older chapters (mainly Part I) in such a long time, and it's so long and there are so many moments. Anyway, for now, you can just look at Fenris' album. ^^

On the kun, chan, and no honorific subject....

kun is a distancing honorific- when used by a girl toward a guy she likes- it's basically saying "I feel too inferior to you to call you by your name alone. You are superior to me." Now kun can be used in a slightly insulting way when it's male to male and both are adults, in that context the person who uses kun thinks the addressee is acting too juvenile for their age, or as a tough guy act. If the guy that uses kun is older then it's less insulting. Kun is generally used for males that haven't reached adulthood. It is associated with childhood and adolescence.

Chan is generally an affectionate term, bringing the person closer- it's used for people of all ages. Women even use it with their boyfriend's name when they are being affectionate or flirting- in this situation the guy's name is usually shortened, then chan tacked on- ie if Sakura were to use this with Naruto she would call him "Na chan". (in a flirty or sexy voice)

No honorific- it is rude if the person not giving honorifics is younger that the people spoken to (unless the older person explicitly said not to use honorifics, which is what westernized Japanese like Yoko Ono tend to say when they visit Japan.) Sasuke gave no one honorifics, even in part 1 (except for his family members in flashback)- that was an extra clue for Japanese readers that even in part 1 Sasuke saw himself as superior to even adults- making him look very arrogant. If the person is the same age it depends on how long and how close the association is. If the person is older (even by a few days) they don't have to use honorifics, but the generic formal "san" is typically used by close age peers until the association is deemed long enough and close enough.
Dream you dream alone is only a dream, but dream we dream together is reality- Yoko Ono 1971

When you go to war, both sides lose totally- Yoko Ono

Remember, our hearts are one. Even when we are at war with each other, our hearts are always beating in unison- Yoko Ono 2009

I feel that Sakura still has some internal conflict over Sauske. Not so much that she "loves" him, but more the question of how could she have had such strong feelings for someone like him. This is clear in 539 and 540 when she is asked the type of guy she likes. This doubt was created at the beginning in the bench scene, when Naruto inadvertantly creates the "man of her dreams scenario" in the guise of Sauske. This doubt is also shown in her confession to Naruto. When she states that "she has become one of them" referring to herself as one of the villiagers that recognize his accomplishments. There is nothing in her statement about a connection or understainding her. Oddly enough, Naruto has the same doubts stemming from the same question. If she has a deep love for Sauske, then how could those feelings now be directed at him? I don't think that he realizes that he created the "Sauske = soulmate" paradox in her mind. Fortunately this is the last wall to tear down for them both. Each of the major conflicts in the story has strengthened Sakura's outward emotional actions toward Naruto: blushing in the Zabuza fight, nearly quitting the Chunin exam, the smile after the fight wiith Gaara, the concern for Naruto after the retrieve Sauske mission, the resolve to get stronger after seeing Naruto's injuries, her impulsive actions when Naruto used the 4 tail cloak, the ramen feeding scene, the hug after saving the villiage (which she subconciously called for Naruto, not Sauske, to do), finally defending Naruto to Sauske and the loving smile. To me, each of these the reactions seems proportional to the significance of the event. I have to conclude that redeeming Sauske, reincarnating the 6 paths in some way, and saving the entire shinobi world will qualify for more than an intimate hug... rolleyes.gif Naruto will be more willing to accept a love revealed by Sakura's actions than her words at this point anyway. But before that, I still feel there has to be some sort of revelation that Naruto is in fact Sakura's soulmate. It may happen before the final battle with Sauske so that everything will be resolved afterword.

I firmly believe that Hinata won't die, but something will happen to free her from her fixation on Naruto. If you look back at her interactions with Naruto, they seem to demonstrate a similar type of unhealthy relationship to SasuSaku. She loves Naruto, but she can't interact naturally with him. When facing Tobi, she doesn't have confidence that Naruto can take care of himself. The same is true when she steps into the Pain fight, which inadvertently unleashes the 9 tails. Now she wants Naruto to stop moving forward and wait for her? Really, the healthiest event in the NaruHina relationship was her smile at the NaruSaku hug. She didn't get jealous and throw a tantrum. She seemed genuinely happy. Therefore, I can see several scenarios where she realizes that someone else(leaning toward Neji at this point because of some of his recent reactions to Hinata and creating one clan instead of the head and the branch) has feelings for her, and she sees the bond between Naruto and Sakura and helps to point it out more clearly. I think that Kishimoto likes most of his characters, even the villians. That's why they get flashbacks revealing their origins and how they came to be bad. For these reasons and her fan popularity, I can't see Hinata dying at this point. Kishimoto already had her nearly die against Pain, and that would be too repetitiious and counter productive storywise.

At the very least Naruto can't go against the example set by his mother and father (paralell soulmate scenario).
Plus, he can't go against his mother's final wishes. What Kushina requested will be done!!! smile.gif
