Have to agree with mydearbeloved and Inferno180. I don't get much enjoyment out of this show, I want to, but I really don't find these characters endearing.

Why a new series is hard? Simple. It's because you're avoiding the similarities, and you can only offer something else that is not your best strong perk. Avoiding the similarities is hard because while the first time is great, doing it again will get your work criticized heavily because even if it's good, it's going to be compared and marked "lazy". So the next best thing is to do something different, but again, if you played all your best perks, why do it again? So you got to do a new one but can you truly do it? In the nutshell, Avatar is probably the best they did and most likely can't exceed by other same creator's creations.

I like this second season okay. There's a lot to like. Varrick as the Howard Hughes character, the creepy the Shining twins, the dark spirit designs, Korra's father and uncle's story, the conflict between the north and the south. I still like Bolin, (no Paboo? did he die?). I'm very much okay with SPOILER Korra and Mako splitting up not because I hate them as a pairing but because it was kind of stagnant story-wise at the moment END SPOILER. I'm a little confused by Tenzin and his family's side adventures featuring as much as it currently does, but I know it'll somehow connect with his kids, the first avatar, and Korra. It's this season's Pro-bending, where I like it as a separate thing, but it doesn't seem to tie in right away. Unfortunately the thing I like least or actually just don't really care about right now is Korra. She's got the dumb. Even though she's the main character it seems more like she's just going through the motions, almost like a plot point. I'm gonna catch flack for this, but I don't think she's grown much as a character since season 1. It's because a) unlike series one where being the Avatar could get you in just as much trouble as it could get you out of, any major trouble she gets into seems to blow over quickly via help from someone else or because she's the Avatar she gets a get out of jail free card and b) she doesn't really have much of a back story to grow from. With Aang, you get his story of how he escaped because he didn't want to be the Avatar and fell in the water, freezing himself and awakening after every one he'd known was killed or has died, adding on the burden of how because he left his responsibilities he in a sense allowed all of it to happen. Korra... she knew she was the Avatar early on and has just been training... and that's it. There isn't much of an interesting driving force behind her actions. Not much to grow from. When there's a chance for her to grow as a character through loss (losing her powers) she is saved by someone or it passes over in a heartbeat. I mean, in the last episode she threatened a judge not just when with Naga but at court with others watching... I get it, she's still young and she's impulsive and rash, but you'd think some of the things from season one would cause her to think through her actions more. She's stubborn and never thinks things through. She has no intuitiveness because she's blinded by how right she thinks she is. I know there are people like this in real life, but when it seems like she would notice something sooner (uncle is bad) and they keep her blinded so they can make it a plot point later, it's just cringey. I know it's family and you don't want to believe it, but that doesn't mean you would hear something and not be suspicious. She just didn't notice anything at all.

Well this weeks was not as good as last, still it was fun.
Korra I know you are concerned about your tribe and family but you need to take a chill pill.
Makorra broken up, kind of figured they would do that at some point, now I wonder if they are goanna get back together at the end of this season or another season.
Yay Iroh was back and we will possibly get to meet Zuko and his daughter this season.
Love Lin's line I wonder what the temple looked like.
Nice to see Mako taken his job seriously.
I have to say the story with Tenzin and Melo was kinda cute, I bet this will lead up to when he finally meets with Korra again they will both have a better understanding of each other.
Eska when she talks seems angry yet emotionless at the same time not sure what to think of that.
Love the Varrick and Bolin relationship, though I'm not sure acting is his calling.

Missed the episode because I went out. For those who still compares to Avatar, think of this way. It's not easy to do a new series in the same world by the same creators. The reason why I say this is because usually your first creation brings the best of you because you got nothing to lose at that point. Plus you do want to bring all the best elements that you have been saving for a while.

Its not that, my problem is its like this:
Korra had talent in all the elements save air and the avatar state, she lost them in the end of season 1 only for basically a couple of hours, and then right at the end of season 1, Aang just pops in to give her the knowledge of energy bending.
Its just really the biggest cheap shot in the series so far, I mean I loved seeing Aang but I honestly hated how Korra got all her powers back seriously, I know people ripped on some Mangakias like Kubo for making Aizen ridicoulus or just Kishi popping stuff for Sasuke and Nagato's revival for the leaf, but seriously, Korra could have gone through so much more in season 2 if she didn't have it all given back. What I hate is, there's practically nothing to give Korra much in physical growth save for just mastering air and using the avatar state responsibly. She has plenty of mental growth but, at this time when she is like 80% all mastered, many fightscenes in the real world arn't going to be as exciting. Its only if when she hits the spirit world, if her bending is not working, then at least creating a situation of being powerless for her can work. I enjoyed her growth in the first season but Aang really made a cheap solution. I mean other characters got some screentime too for fights which was enjoyable, but so far this season its been Mainly Korra fighting, Mako had a couple, Bolin, Tenzin, and Lin remain on the side though. I know there are 9 more episodes this season but it needs to pick up with others if its to showcase what they can do. I mean characters don't need to fight but with such limited episodes, that growth time potential is severely limited.
Its not a case of wanting repeitiion, its just because the creators limited themselves so much, to only 12 and 14 episodes at first for korra, what is the scale of growth going to be? I mean it was that journey and set plot at the start that gave focus to Aang's group and journey, you knew he would grow and become a hero. Korra, its just harder to relate cause its like, give her 75% of all the power she will need at the start. It breaks the normal conventions of Hero growth which is good, but having a hero start off experienced and stronger in any series can basically run into that superman syndrome in which the hero has become powerful already and basically, most stuff isn't going to be as easy to associate with them if they already have such a safety cushion against their foes. I mean we can say Naruto had a safety cushion with Kurama, but at least that power was a double edged sword causing both mindless rage and self inflicted harm. When a great power is also a weakness, thats usually acceptable. But in avatar even with dying in the avatar state, its just not as likely, generally that power boost outweighs the risk. Its only because I'm hoping the spirit world strips Korra of her bending that she will be forced to adapt. She has power already but Im hoping a no-power zone comes into effect and makes her mortal against powerful spritis, basically her only weapon being the avatar spirit to which she cannot control yet.

Ooh I just saw this thread. Okay, I'mma share a few thoughts on the recent episodes and the series in general.
thoughts on LoK
Hey, I'm with you that it isn't even half as good as the original series, no way.
And I completely agree about Makorra, this episode really reinforced my dislike of the pairing, they just don't work at all for me, but it is inevitable that they will get back together. Unfortunately.
Overall, aside from the Korra/Mako drama, it was pretty good. The Tenzin/Meelo bonding was adorable, and it looks like Korra's going to take a trip into the spirit world.

I wish I can see the episode now but by accidentally getting spoiled, not here, elsewhere, but did Mako and Korra really broke up? Who did the break-up? Funny and ironic, because I actually said once that the rushed development will have them broke up.

You can watch it on the net? It's not hard to google it.
I just hope her father doesn't find out about the break-up.

The synopsis says otherwise, if she was going to do something this major it should've been mentioned. Besides, she is shown talking to Tenzin in a promo and says "I have to enter the spiritworld", which sounds like she's never done it before and she can't talk to Tenzin now obviously.
But I think Korra will figure a way out of this, I liked the way she escaped from Tarrlok :3 !

Btw, synopsis for The sting and The beginnings
Hm, sounds interesting.
Mako biz
Yeah, I feel pretty much the same. I think Korra's just not ready to be in a relationship period. Despite being older than Aang during the original series, Korra feels in many ways much more immature, and that's saying something, considering Aang's carefree approach to life.

This episode was by far the best of the new season so far.

I mentioned a prediction in my first post about this episode that Korra will be announced dead by Unulaq. If not that, she'll at least be MIA.
What would make the south lose more hope than losing the Avatar? If I were Unulaq I would do this, and he is definitely dirty enough. And I don't think that the Makorra break-up happened right before she went missing is a coincidence either. He'll probably call out on his regrets and be highly protective of her again.
Prediction on Tumblr;
"So um, I kinda have this headcanon where Mako, Bolin, Asami and everyone in Republic City hold a memorial service for Korra. They have a statue of her built and that’s where it’s being held. But way after the memorial service has ended, Mako is still there. And he puts down a bouquet of panada lilly’s on her statue and he’s talking to the statue, as if he was talking to Korra. Mako basically confesses that it was a mistake to break up with her and that he was doing the right thing for both of them but he was an idiot to let her go. He admits to her that he still loved her and wouldn’t stop loving her even when she was gone. Mako even talks to her about how he saw himself marrying her and having children together, living their life together. He tells her, ‘I’ll never love anyone else the way I love you, Korra.’ That’s when he totally breaks down and cries. And guess who’s there, listening to all of it, witnessing it… Korra, in the spirit world."
The promo and synopsis I mentioned in my earlier post contradicts that she'll be going into the spiritworld in the next episode. But if it happens, it would be cool..if it's toned down a bit, I think the post was a bit over the top in terms of feeels.

Its funny how Aang's journey was to stop a war started by the fire nation while Korra is trying to start one involving the fire nation lol
