I think the manga started to get really bad after the end of the Edolas arc, after magicaly bringing back Lisanna with an very lame excuse just to appeal to the fanbase. It's like Mashima lost his touch, when you think that someone is going to die, or an fight is lost, instead of going with this course of action, he brings an very cliched and silly plot device, aka, nakama power up to end the situation. Even today I'm very angry for Mashima not killing the Master way back at the island, this shows he is too afraid to kill someone of the main cast, wich make everything quite predictable.
Well, there was the Raven Tail plot that needed to be resolved first, (as we can see in this chapter) and in order to solve that particular plot thread, Makarov needs to be there with Luxus. Quite frankly, only after the Raven Tail plot is resolved, we can expect Makarov to really die anytime now. Y'see, when Makarov looked like he was going to die on the island, I was cheering for it to happen and at the same time, I felt that I won't be quite satisfied because there was still that RT plot thread needing to be resolved.
I'm glad that Mashima finally introduced RT in the plot again. And it feels complete to me because Makarov and Luxus are still present. In order to resolve the RT plot, all 3 must be present otherwise it won't feel "complete" to me.
Here's hoping Makarov dies for real after it's resolved.
I did enjoy the S-Rank exam arc, but every chapter since then has been so full of WTF I don't know what to think.
I feel like I'm in one of those carnival rides, I think called the Egg Beater, that basically jerks you in different directions until you feel like you're going to fall out of the car, then spins you again into a different direction. It's fun, sort of, but repetative and after a while your side starts to hurt from where you're getting slammed into the side of the car all the time.
(To stretch this analogy to the breaking point, Naruto is more like a nicely well built roller coaster, on steel rails, where the curves and loops are graceful and you're thrilled but not in pain. One piece, as well. Bleach is more like an old rickety wooden coaster where you feel like you're going waaaaay too fast for safety and you're sure the thing is going to disintegrate beneath your car.)
I don't mean to offend you or anything, but your analogy really cracked me up. Especially with Bleach's.
I will add that OP is more like a kiddie roller coaster to me. Graceful, fun, but very boring compared to the "adult" roller coaster like Naruto.
