Why do people NOT ship these two? I just don't get it.

Probably cause they hate Sakura. When she's probably the most developed female character in the whole show.

I respect Hinata, but Sakura deserves some too.

The preview said Sasuke and Naruto have ended the fight, so I don't think Naruto will be put in the same situation as the OVA. He might be beat up but not 'dead' like he is in that special.

I agree. He could have passed out from loss of chakra and something similar to the ova can still happen. I can see Sakura arriving, finding Naruto, and healing him.
