What kind of character is Kaito?
I never planned on writing about Kaito as an older child, but here's an example of who I believe he is. Kaito would be a child that was raised by everyone. I could see him being passed around among Naruto's friends and sensei's. Each one of them would teach him what they felt was important to them. This intern would give him an excellent understanding of family, and he wouldn't have the void in him that Bolt does. Kaito's dream is to protect those he loves, like his father does. He wouldn't be in a competition with Naruto either. There would be none of this "I'll show you old man, I'm going to surpass you," crap. Instead Kaito would be eager to always being around his father to learn, and if he wasn't allowed too he'd still sneak inside Hokage tower so he could sneak a peek. Having Naruto's friends help raise Kaito also gives him lots of role models, so If Naruto wasn't available Kaito could turn to Shikamaru, Sai, or even Kakashi for advice.
I don't know why, but that cracked me up.
Lol truth be told I was laughing while I was writing that line.
And that was why I was never sold on NH as a pairing, Naruto is volatile and immature, and needs someone who is capable of scolding him, That was Sakura, it's the same for his kids, Hinata would not be able to disipline her child because she's too soft, and would just deal with it, Bolt's issues are just as much her fault as Naruto's, no matter how old fashion is may seem, but it's the mothers that keep the family together. Hinata needs to make Naruto understand and force him to spend more time with his children, and she needs to make Bolt understand his attitude is not acceptable no matter his reasons.
Both SS and NH are prime examples of disfuntional families.
As for the plot, looks like it might be similar to Dragonball (or I think as I've never read the manga). From what I understand Goku was sent to Earth to conquer it (or atleast that was the reason that was given early on.) so Kaguya seems to be Goku in that sense, she came to Eath to conquer it, and then the enemies in the movie are either the enemy Kaguya wants to use the power of the planet to defeat, or the ones who sent her to earth for the mission. Ofcourse considering the trend of the current SWJ manga's of being milked, we'll probably find the reason came to earth was because there is another enemy that is even stronger that they need to defeat, which we'll see continued in the next manga series, movie or set of movies.
This is was why I felt NS would be canon in the end, it's the one thing I used the most when talking about it. Naruto needed someone to ground him, someone who wasn't going to let him fall into his immature habits, and Sakura was that person. Hinata has always been such a pushover character. When NH became canon I at least expected for her to woman up so to speak when it comes to her kids, but alas, even she wasn't able to escape Kishi's way with writing females in his story.
She's pathetic, and like you said she is also at fault for Bolt's behavior, if not more so then Naruto. Most of the time women are the ones that keep a family together (I say most because there are single dads) they are the foundation of the family. It is their job to raise their children, and while fathers help they will never do as much work as the mother does. Hinata should be able to help with the void that Bolt has when it comes to his father, she shouldn't be able to completely fill it, but she shouldn't allow her son to become the mini douche that he is. She's lacks the basic's when it comes to motherhood, and part of me honestly thinks that she only thought things through to a certain point when it came to being with Naruto. All she wanted was to hold his big strong hand, and then they got married, and then they had a baby. Sure babies are cute and you can dress them and cuddle with them, but they don't last like that forever. They grow up, and its a mother's job to instill the proper values into their child.
To see Bolt ruin his sisters birthday party and for Hinata to just take it all with a loss expression on her face is just sad. All sons need their fathers, I know this through experience. My husband can be gone for 16 hrs a day. By the time he gets home the boys are ready for bed. So I have to take the roll of daddy too. It's not the same though, I can't wrestle with them like he does nor am I strong enough to lift them both up at the same time, but I make the effort to spend even more time with them, but it doesn't look like Hinata can even do that. This is were she fails. For crying out loud she's an alright kunoichi in her own right. If Bolt doesn't like going out for long walks to visit his dead uncle then Hinata should train him. She's Naruto's wife after all so in theory she should know her own husbands form of fighting style, (but we know she doesn't because she doesn't know a damn thing about him still) You'd think Naruto would try and show her some of his moves, just like Kushina taught Minato some of hers. Hell even Chichi trained Goten herself when Goku wasn't around so Hinata should do the same for her son.
All in all NH had a chain reaction that messed everything up. We have a spoiled brat that's gotten no panel time in Gaiden, but he'll be super important in the movie. Then we have his sister who has more appearance in tumblr as fanart then in any canon material. I mean we don't even know if she's got any skills, or is she doomed to make bento's and knit scarfs like her mom for the rest of her life.
