So do you consider a person who is totally dependent on life support to be alive? This person cannot enjoy life physically or mentally and is a vegetable. Is this person alive?

the keyword "life support" Vegetable state is not really death, it will be death if the life support system is taken out. As for your question, i don't know. I mean a vegetable state person vital organs are still working, what is not really working its the brain which is in a state of comma, so this person is really alive, not as an animal...but as a plant...

alive: The act of living.
The vegetable person cannot be happy, due to the coma. The person possesses life, but to what extent? Does one have to be all or most of these things to be alive?

Nice.
Alive has many definitions, people tend to disagree on them when in reality they're all right.
