As someone who hasn't watched the Anime or read the manga, how will I find the movie? I know fans of the series will hate it, but as someone who has a good idea about the original source material but no interaction with it, would I still hate it?

Speaking of live action, I would definitely recommend the two japanese live action moves of 2006 despite looking a bit outdated. Much like Naruto, the series suffered from Shonen Jump's involvement to artificially extend and did not get the ending it should have had. The films correct that issue and trim the manga from the excessive amount of exposition.

Yeah the Japanese live action Death Note films were pretty solid. Much more accurate to the original product. It did make a few changes, but they were more logical and based on time restraints.

@Lid
Dat L
The final twist of the second film literally BLEW MY MIND. What L did was ballsy as hell and something I imagine he would do if the authors could have ended the way they wanted it. This scene gave me chills.
