Don't worry, I'm positive Kishimoto didn't intend for NH or SS all along. No matter what he says or hints. The manga is built around NS. It's their house. The proof is irrefutable.

Here's the frustrating thing: the manga ended and there's a movie coming out. There's going to be lots of interviews, and Kishi isn't going to talk bad about or even give an honest opinion about his hopes for pairing. He's not going to kill the buzz around his own movie.

But one day a long time from now, when the pressure's off and the anime spin off is wrapping up, Kishimoto will come clean. In fact, it may only come about when he is doing press for a new project — when it's in his best interest to try and persuade fans that he's not going to bait-and-switch at the end of this project too — that he felt some pressure to choose an ending that allowed the series to continue.

I agree.  If he is hoping to still make money off of the product he's not going to openly trash it while still in production. And that's assuming he even cares either way. He also never said that the pairings were decided. The only portion he said was decided from the beginning was the NaruSasu stuff. In that case, the manga was definitely developed like that was true. So, it's hard to believe that the pairings were get the type of development (or lack there of) is that was known from the beginning. Unless he's far worse an author than I could have imagined, it's hard to believe he settle on NH in chapter 1, but then spent absolutely no time developing the "Naruto" portion of the pairing while repeatedly tying Sakura to the various romances of the past and having Naruto reaffirm his feelings.

If Kishi is not good to write romance and even feel embarrassing if he do this, why he don't invate me to write a romance end,

than were everyone now happy -.- ^^

Even though I disliked the pairings at the end, I can't say I disliked the series because of it.  I will at least give him the benefit of the doubt until I see the final movie to see if how the relationships developed in the two years between 699 and 700.  I have a lot of NH friends, so my hats off to them.  It just feels the same way as Harry Potter and How I Met Your Mother ended to me.  Although, Rowling ended up confessing later that Harry and Hermoine should have ended up together.  It doesn't make me never want to see the series again.

I loved the characters first and foremost.  Naruto was my favorite character and I felt he deserved someone that was equally as strong and supportive of him.  I believed that Naruto and Sakura made each other stronger and better than they were on their own.  Hinata's character was very weak and submissive and showed very little growth at all.  Sakura was one of my other favorite characters and I thought she had grown up and in the last two chapters she kind reverted back (not all the way) but a little to what she once was.  Willing to follow Sasuke as long as he'd let her.  Whereas with Naruto she's just hit him on the head and say "I'm coming with!"  So am I mad?  Not really, more upset, but I'm sure in time that will pass.  I'd say I'm disappointed that my favorite characters seemed to regress a bit at the end and that I felt there could have been an ending with a greater sense of closure.

You know the only thing I got out of any of this is that I can't trust anything Kishi says anymore.

Everything he has ever said in interviews up until the ending seems like it was all a complete lie. So if all that was a complete lie, who is to say that he is telling the truth now?

Couldn't even name Naruto's son Shinachikui like he said he was going to.

I don't see NS in Bolt and Salad considering Bolt seems more like freaking Sasuke to Salad's "Sakura" ( CoughHinataKarinCough)

Its not the same, it will never be the same.

I agree, but this is how kishi could milk the series and still try to get the so called NS at the end.

So you get bolt who looks like naruto and and salad looks like Karin and maybe sakura. Don't forget salad has to act like all three (hinita, Karin, and sakura). You please everyone. It's like one of those ankles that try and put all genres in it. I hope people see kishi sold out and not support it.

I can see the ending having all the k11 and kids fight together. Makes puke.

Same here, and I have no intention of buying into it :zaru: Other people are free to carry on with the franchise, But for me Naruto ended before 699-700. I will not accept the assassination of Sakura and Naruto as CHARACTERS for the sake of kitten pairings and the greed of money, or whatever the hell it was that drove Tollmoto to do this.

It's a next gen NS. The only difference is next gen sakura fangirling over next gen naruto, while he doesn't give a kitten.
After all, true romance in this manga is fangirl love aka obsession.

Like I said, if next gen "Naruto" is acting like Sasuke, he's not Naruto except in looks. If Next gen "Sakura" is stalking "Naruto" she becomes Hinata.

Its not NS. Absolutely anyone could see that, and for people who loved the NS bond it will just be another punch to the gut.

Not like sasuke, but more like naruto to Hinata.
And salad is a combination of the trinity of fangirl(Karin creep, sakura fangirl, and Hinata stalk), but she is more like sakura.
I don't think burito will threat salad like kitten, he just doesn't interest enough in love department.

In part 3 burito and salad will get connect as the children of distant father.
Burito emotionally and salad literally.
This kishi way so NS could happen.
Narusasu and narusaku. It's kitten like twillight with Jacob get pair with Ed Bella daughter. lol wtf.

After taking a week to calm down, I think I can think a bit more clearly. I get the impression that Kishimoto is tired. Very tired. His entire life has revolved around this series. In the interview he states that it's weird to not have a deadline anymore. Even when his father died, he only took a week off and he didn't even get to go on his honeymoon.

While I can't stomach Naruto and Sasuke's "resolution" or the "resolution" of the pairings, the series has so much good. The world Naruto lives in is so rich and full of potential. 15 years is a long time to continuously produce this manga. I deeply respect his work ethic and his creativity with design and world building. He's created some of the most interesting characters I have ever had the pleasure to read about. I think we've all gotten so heated because we care so much.

As for him saying that he's embarrassed doing romance, maybe he accidentally created NS because he felt that what he was showing was a bond of friendship. Sakura was intended as someone who would be won over by Naruto just like Tsunade or Killer Bee.

NS was clearly growing into something else, but maybe the story grew in a direction that he didn't initially anticipate. Maybe he tried to go in that direction, but realized that to flesh it out would take too much time, so he went back to the planned ending which was already down on paper and therefore less work. I've tried to rationalize Kishi's decision to have Sakura and Sasuke end up together and the only one that makes even a bit of sense is that Kishi wanted her to achieve her 'goal' and keep her word from Part 1. Maybe in his mind, he was respecting Sakura's wishes. I will probably never be able to understand his viewpoint on the matter since I'm not a Japanese guy.

Like others, I think after a few years he may talk more in depth about the ending and the creative choices that were made, but for now, I think he's going to stay vague in order to avoid drama.

tl;dr

Thank you very much for your hard work Kishi. I'm sad that the ending wasn't a great resolution, but it's because the work was so good that I set the bar so high. I don't regret getting into the series at all.

This man knows how to write relationships. Hell look at Haku and Zabuza. Even if it wasn't meant to be sexual in nature, Kishi still was able to easily show the pain, love, and desire for a better future between the two in the end. You saw their connection, the pain from their lost that their lifestyle created, and an understanding that each did care about the other.

Don't give me this "I don't know how to write romance." excuse. I just think he stopped caring and allowed the quality to fall.

Look at Yamato's line in chapter 297. Look at Kushina telling Naruto to find someone like his mother. Look at Jiraiya listing the failure to win over Tsunade as one of the biggest failures in his life. There's no way NaruSaku was always meant to be platonic. The change had to be conceived 2 years ago AT MOST.

I don't believe NaruSaku needed much to resolve, contrary to NaruHina and SasuSaku, which need an entire movie and a third series evidently. The tales of the gutsy ninja book indicates that Sakura would have realized that Naruto was the one makes the most happy and that would've been the resolution right there.

I know it makes no sense. Yamato's line, Sai's interference, MinaKushi, and The Gutsy Ninja point to NS. Like I said, maybe this was Kishi's attempt to honor Sakura's original wishes? Who knows.

I was under the impression that NS was popular in Japan, too. I have no idea why people are saying he did this to sell out. Maybe I was mistaken. :(

I still like the guy but he kittened up on the end couples so. kittening. Bad.
He probably didn't care much about the romance so he handed the consolation prize over to popular NH/SS.
But Naruto and Sakura's relationship was an important part of the story and taking it to the next level into romance would've increased the story's quality so much.
He made a mistake..a big kittening mistake.

It all feels very rushed. I can see where some of the fanbase is going, saying that's there was SOME naruhina hints. However this pairing didn't start until the PAIN STORYLINE. Narusaku was hinted LONG before this.

Hm.

Some do believe that Kishi originally intended to end Naruto after the Pain arc. Perhaps the confession was originally meant to justify marketing demands that were present even then?

IDK. Ignore me. Unprovable speculation and thoughts I just decided to voice for no reason.
