LOL @ Hinata, she looked like a kid who was being left out and was like 'me too' I half expected her to stomp her feet or something. While not much happened it was a good chapter, finally got confirmation that Shikamaru fully intends to be the right hand man for Naruto, making it likely to be Shikamaru, Sakura and...Sai, Sasuke or Kakashi filling the last role, actually he has more advisors than he needs it seems.

I knew Shika wasn't dead, don't know why so many thought he was, it's been obvious for years Shika is the most important member of the Rookie Nine after the original team seven, he was being set-up to be Naruto's advisor since the sand/sound invasion.

It's a gripe but don't let it detract from the enjoyableness of the chapter. Most of it was very good and this will hopefully be the last set-up for some time.

Did anyone else notice how Kakashi was drawn without a bijuu shroud despite the connection that he should have after having already been supplied with Kurama's chakra?  Minato's FTG may not be capable of transcending dimensions in spite of a familiar chakra resonance existing inside of Kamui.

Yeah, this chapter was somewhat decent. Still giving it a 6.5/10, though. Casting the spotlight on Shikamaru (who's my fav character, btw) made me somewhat happy.

If you're reading the MS translation, their translation of Kakashi's line implies that he knew what was going on outside. While as for MP's translation, he's simply getting ready to go. I'll take the latter, though.

It seems like the damage done by the confession has pretty much gone away. Although it leaves me wondering if Kishi will ever touch on it again, or simply just brush it under the table.

Maybe Naruto introducing Sakura as his girlfriend was Kishi's way of saying Naruto finally realized the truth. It's not like Sakura denied it. I'm inclined to agree with James on the NS moments. In this chapter, you have people saying they want to be by Naruto's side. To me, it looks like Sakura already is. Doesn't seem to be a need to say it out loud.

I'm expecting big things from a Tsunade + Sakura team. I don't think they're going to be needed for healing, because Naruto's chakra seems to be filling that role on it's own.

I appreciate the lack of Sasuke in this chapter. It's kind of his turn to watch Naruto's back and try to keep up. He will, of course, because Plot no Jutsu demands it, but still. I'm hoping he's looking at all this and realized it could have been him. With all his genius and potential, he could have been a true hero. Instead, while he's accepted in this fight, he knows his actions were vile.

Pumped up for Kakashi. I really hope he doesn't go down in this fight. Team 7 shouldn't lose it's leader after everything they've been through.

Looks like Kishi is getting ready to get everyone involved, though. I'm not expecting this battle to end any time soon. My guess is around 5-6 more chapters before the fight with Madara.

i think the fact that Kishi showed the characters (rookies) I actually care about made this chapter more likeable than the few ones before it. just like in the rtn movie, i liked it better because its about the characters i "know" not another filler character.

anyhow is it just me or Sakura looks younger on this chapter??

she's been disheveled all this time in the war (although she should be since THIS is a WAR), its refreshing to see her like this. All the more i support NaruSaku for Naruto brings out those smiles from Sakura. *remembers that cover "i want to protect that smiling face" aww*

The TsunadexSakura reunion was okay, brief but meaningful. and Sakura looked so adorable like a lil child being praised by her mama with that face..

my wild imagination tells me that forehead touch and those bangs are gonna bring me closer to that NS forehead kiss ohohoho.. :fan: do it Kishi. DO IT.

I'm glad Shikamaru is well now, he is one of my faves and i adore him and Naruto's bond (actually more than with Naruto's bond with Sasuke nowadays). It was so nice to see Shikamaru's comparison of the Hokage brothers and him with Naruto.

I wonder what is with that "finally..!?" at the end?

Now it seems that Obito failed taking Nardo's Kakashi-sensei... and now he failed taking Nardo's best bud Shikamaru.. he wouldn't go for the love interest right?.. hope he won't though.. he'll get pummeled! :chuckle: :sakura:

Kakashi and Obito's eyes are connected so I believe they can see what the other is seeing.

So, Shikamaru survived...not the least bit surprising. It's still a shame, though.

Anyway, the only pairing signifiance I see is to NH. Now that others are talking walking next to him it takes away the uniqueness of the expression by Hinata as some kind indication of romantic love or that her accomplishment of that goal signifies some kind grand achievement in her pursuit of such a realtionship. It doesn't kill the idea, but it certaintly muddies the water.

Yeah, that's one of my gripes about this chapter. The drama got thrown out the window so quickly like that. When is it enough for Kishi to keep undermining Sakura? Kishi should've just let her do her thing and shine instead of her master just magically touching Shikamaru back to health.

On another note though, I'm glad to see Tsunade's interaction with Sakura and her Grandfather. And it sure is a good thing that Tsunade's alive, otherwise Hashi would be ripping Madara into confetti over and over again with that Gigantic Buddha Statue of his.

In insolation, the chapter is fine. As has been discussed before, Kishimoto has overused the rah-rah speechs. This isn't Naruto suffering another crisis of confidence at least, and there really isn't anything wrong with it's specific use here, but it's these kind of speechs have been relentlessly abused by Kishimoto to the point, at least for me, it's not as uplifting as it could have been. Again, the issue really isn't the execution here, that's fine. It's just a device that losses it impact from overuse.

As for Sakura...I admit, I didn't get Tsuande's instant recover like that. She could have given a motiviation speech without it. I can't recall...did she bite Karin...does that recover chakra and recover wounds, because before she had been laying half dead burning every bit of Chakra to keep herself and the other Kage's from dying, but she can heal those guys like it's nothing.

I don't think he meant to undermine Sakura with this, but he kind of did by making it look so easy for Tsunade. Just eliminate that and leave the speech and the result is the same.

This chapter was way better than last week's. And Kishi finally show Kakashi after how many chapters (he should've shown a glimpse of him before the God Tree erupted to its glory). Get a move on, Kakashi, your students and former dead sensei are out there fighting a chakra-sucking tree! (Though I have a feeling Kakashi isn't going to last for some reason. I'm feeling a sacrificial move from him soon so he can take Obito with him).

I've always had this feeling Kakashi will end up using the Shiki Fuujin. It's true that Ninjutsu doesn't work on Obito, but what about Fuuinjutsu? Kakashi using the Shiki Fuujin is the only thing I see happening for him in the end. Remember the whole "we'll die together with NaruSasu?" Welp, something tells me it was actually foreshadowing Kakashi.

Loved this chapter! \(^o^)/ I wonder if Sakura's messy bangs gets to stay like this till the end of the manga ('.')?

I agree with StriderC that relationship between Naruto and Hinata is getting less and less chances of being a romantic one.

Yeah, just imagine Minato's reaction when he gets the horrifying realization that Kakashi is about to use it. I could see Kakashi saying something like;

"Sensei, it looks like Team Minato will have their reunion at last."

I don't see it either..

She wants to support him , like everyone else does. More than that she cannot ask , i've told a lot of NH fans that that's the deal and nothing more will happen , because she gives friendship speeches when she had screen time , but they refuse to listen  .
She wants to be his equal , she fallows the words as Shika,Shino and the entire shinobi alliance , nothing special.

The true NH fans will admit to you that NH died in 615 though. These people i like :3.

Couple of realizations this chapter that the majority should see honestly...

NARUHINA- closed. HAS been closed too. Its like Kishi is closing that door from all sides. The front door, backdoor, side door. We're constantly seeing that with that relationship, it's nothing major
He's pushed it away actually and her panels are now dedicated to being an equal to Naruto and nothing more. We're shown this undeniably this chapter IMO. She heard what Shikamaru said and she knows what he meant snd she added to that. She wants to walk by his side as a comrade, an equal, nothing more. At least that's what it seems like right now.

NARUSAKU- As James has said before, Sasuke is there and with that, we see Sakura worrying about both at times but moreso about Naruto and with that, her devotion and whom she values more between the two is more apparent. She's not fangirling or going bonkers over Sasuke and she's not downing Naruto for him. She hasn't in such a long time. For me, it honestly feels like she can live without Sasuke but can't live without Naruto. With that said, things are looking consistently well for NS, and it feels great. Sakura is such a sweet girl. She was very caring and such this chapter and with that, I wondered how could anyone hate this girl at this point. I look forward to more awesomeness from this pair.

SASUSAKU- ............. -_- what can we say about this? It is and will continue to be dead.

THe problem is that you're talking like Naruto and Sasuke are equals, the fact is that they are not, despite they fighting alongside the things that happened between them Sasuke is way too distant to Sakura and vice-versa, ofc she worries about him but there's really an interaction between Sasuke and Sakura?

I say that SS is dead and it is, Sakura worries more about Naruto and i have any doubts about that, but her not fangirling and other stuff has nothing to do with "She now loves Naruto and all" Sakura is serious when it comes to romance and she realized long ago that Sasuke is a bad guy, there are mostly Naruto and Sakura interactions and next to zero SS interactions, it's like Sasuke is there but at the same time not, he's absence on the fight because Sasuke is fighting for himself and his own reason not to save the shinobi world and stuff he had 0 interaction with the alliance shinobis and didnt spell out a single word.

Sasuke is not there rallying shinobis, he's not showing his feelings to the alliance he's not displaying that he cares about the others, he's not there trying to protect anyone, he didnt move to save any shinobi when the tree attacked.

It relates to the great guy thing.

I think this will be resolved either on Sasuke's backstab or Obi/Rin

SS - has been dead

NS - it's bound to happen but the chapter doenst give more development.

NH - It's dead on Hinata always stating ambiguous stuff, and the NH fans seems satisfied with it.

Great chapter. It's an introduction to the alliance's next fight that is coming up.

This moment between Sakura and Tsunade... Loved ittttt XD. I was expecting that the minute Sakura showed her seal. Tsunade is proud of her disciple.

Sakura and  Naruto helped healing Shikamaru and Tsunade gave the final touch. Good subtle link.

Tsunade and Sakura teaming up and fighting against the tree is very possible now. I didn't think of it being this possible, but thank you Kishi cause my two favorite tsunderes fighting alongside together is very possible now. I'll have a thought on this one.

By the way, notice something. First, Neji is dead as friend who died, but Naruto is still on his feet. Second, Kakashi, his sensei, but still alive. Third, Shikamaru another friend, though Obito wasn't personally attacking him, not dead and future adviser. Next makes the road to Sakura being injured directly or indirectly from Obito as indirectly from the tree. Let's see how the OR parallel will happen.

I agree partially although the chapter enforces again what Sakura felt when she give the speech to the shinobis, she understands Naruto and worries about him but it's the same thing that we got this whole arc, ofc i feel that NS is canon but it's not due to this moment but Saku/Kushina parallel and the fact that this chapter enforced that Sasuke is not going to be on the village.

The hints about how Naruto's life as hokage will be the chapter gives more about that.

I like NS moments and stuff but i love progress and development and it's something that this moment doenst have.

I just hope Kishi starts moving on, and i feel that ObiRin parallel is going to play soon after i see Naruto thinking about not letting any of his friends die, i know it's related to shika but could be something afterwards.

Hmm...that's fine, but you are not gonna change my mind. Like I said, these little moments are more than just filler and more than just eye candy. If you have ever watched a harem or read a romance novel, it;s these little moments just like this that make up the majority of the progress. I am watching Rosario-Vampire as of late and watching all the moments, it is just so painfully obvious that I could cut it with a knife. There are hundreds of these moments like this that you know they feel so much for each other and yet still only see each other as a friend up until the very end when they finally admit how they feel.

Same thing here, but unlike a harem which fires a whole bunch of these kind of scenes in your face to the point of pain, this manga is more sparing and uses those moments in times when it makes a huge impact. You always comment on how 540 makes such a huge impact, but that scene gives such a huge red herring that is painfully obvious to the point that I question it. Again, like I said, this is not a harem, but rather something different. Why do you think 540 makes such an impact, but this kind of chapter get pushed under the rug? I see it as being one of the most important scenes in any love relationship. Sure, it is not corny lovey dovey, but then again it is not supposed to be. Not a harem which rapid fires those things 10 times per episode.

So, this scene is majorly important. At least in my opinion it is. If you want to remain humble about it that's fine, but again I see this as a huge progress. A huge step forward to proving NS's valid canonical ending. It's too good not to be. It's too perfect to have her think this, even when Sasuke is standing there. The man that people said she truly loves, Sasuke, is standing right there and she doesn't even think about him. It's even worse when this whole chapter gets brushed off, but one panel where she says "Sasuke-kun" and looks happy and all of a sudden it just wipes out all progress up to this point. That's just crazy.

It's too good to just be brushed under the table and say "This is not a moment."

I'll give one more evidence to back up my stance. This whole manga we have gone through the idea that Naruto is in love with Sakura, Hinata is in love with Naruto, and Sasuke is in love with....himself. The idea was was that Sasuke was going to turn and love Sakura and "notice her." Yet here we are, chapter 649, and we have Sakura thinking about Naruto. We have Sakura smiling when thinking of him. We have Sakura saying thank you to Naruto. She has done this several times through out this manga despite many claiming she would not. That she would just go back to Sasuke and forget everything else, but she hasn't. She has changed. She is no longer that little obsessive girl. She is a grown girl who in her heart knows that Naruto is amazing. Who knows that she can rely on him. She isn't screaming for Sasuke to come save her. She is admiring the man who is one day going to become one of the greatest ninja who ever lived and she was there since the beginning when he wanted to dream. She wanted to protect that dream. Protect that man who she knows loves her with all his heart.

That's what makes this chapter so amazing in my eyes.

Despite 540, despite all the criticism and the harsh fandoms saying what they want to say; she has defied all of it. She done exactly what they said she would not do and she continues to do it. Even now.

That's why this chapter is so special in my eyes.

Rob Thomas sang it best

"Our lives are made
In these small hours
These little wonders,
These twists & turns of fate
Time falls away,
But these small hours,
These small hours still remain."

Hinata never cease to amaze me negatively :/ In each drammatic situation, the only thing that she does is thinking about Naruto's kun hand and wanting to be at his side... She's childish to me... Also after again this clue, I cannot take seriously the NH anymore. It's just... ass-puled.

It was a fine chapter. It was good to see Sakura who was givin all herself to heal Shikamaru and her worrying for Naruto. It was like chapter 628.

I don't think kakashi will dead, I think it would be obito. Knowing Obito, it's invetible that he will get tnj. And I think obito will perform darthvader to madara. If that really happen, than mass resurection will not happen.
