I think Kishi chooses to put on the covers the highlights of the volume and what he considers important.
Yes, but there's not just them. There's also what the cover gives you of an idea, and the surrounding. Some are seeing just the hand holding and not with the idea and stuff. If someone who doesn't read the manga, and see some arguments from here, he/she would think that there's a pairing that is now canon from the cover !!!
Sakura has been in covers before. Not every cover should have Sakura in it even if she's the heroine.
It's not just them, I agree. But they
are the center of attention; out of every moment Kishi could have chose he chose them holding hands. I really thought we got spared of that when 616 came out and Sasuke stole the color pages. Unfortunately we weren't. I think of covers with Narusaku and they never had that, they didn't get their hug or any real physical contact on covers.
I'm seeing alot of people being hypocritical because of the "it means something" reactions to Road To Ninja, technically filler/non-canon, compared to this (drawn by Kishimoto, in the manga) and how it means nothing.
SAKURA is the HEROINE. She will always be. I get that she didn't have a role in this volume. I'd like a cover with her and Naruto that's not just them being the main characters for once.
You yourself said that this doesn't make NH canon but it's a huge NH moment that shouldn't be brush off by any NS fans.
Like I said in my last post, this could be the beginning of NH stepping stone or it could be the end of the Huyga story since there isn't anything else to talk about them but there is a lot to resolve with Team 7, we could agree that Hinata story is almost complete by now, if NH is meant to be the end pairing then she will only waiting for the I love you too from Naruto, but if NH is not meant to be then the focus will switch on witch guy Sakura will finally choose when the focus is on Team 7 again.

I want to believe its the end of Hinata development/Naruhina resolution but I cant anymore because we've been saying that since she confessed and it just hasn't ended. I think it will be the end if Naruto confirms he still loves Sakura. While I believe he does and there's no evidence that points to him giving up on his love for her, confirmation of it should shut the nay-sayers up.
I understand what you're feeling, it's sad to see our Sakura being left out to give opportunity to Hinata, but it is best to wait until the next events before despair. Let's think that Kishi makes incredible back Sakura giving any attention NS and Hinata finally is left out, all these feelings will have been a waste of time. But if he continues to give us one or another point to NH, I would say that we should be concerned.
Actually, that is not worse than the statement, only makes it seem because it came later, as a confirmation of the feelings of Hinata, but Naruto does not show while returning, we're fine.
You need not worry, Sakura will return soon and we will know clearly whether there is cause for concern.

I honestly like Hinata. I think she's a good character. Do I think she completes Naruto as much as Sakura does? NO WAY! Naruto and Sakura have a deep bond that cannot be broken.
When Sakura returns I only hope it's not due to Sasuke. I want to see her fight along side Naruto as she said she would in chap. 573.
I agree that it doesn't confirm Naruto loves Hinata. He still loves Sakura.
With the handholding being so emphasized I don't think we can pass it off as just chakra sharing or compare it to the alliance scene. 616 wasn't really a troll tbh.
THANK YOU! Besides that 617 shows Hinata helping Naruto again. There was no troll, its just the Naruhina fans expected more and we braced for more. We should be happy nothing more happened in 616.
