Well, I don't blame the people who don't understand it. But, in that case why use it if they don't understand what the meaning is? They can just write a story without the honorifics AT ALL. I don't mind if Naruto calls Sakura, only "Sakura". No honorifics are better than wrong honorifics.

Ever read a fan fiction that disappointed you?

Fanfiction.net has some of the best fanfiction ever, and some of the worst fanfiction ever envisioned! Honestly, it's pathetic!
And some of these horrid writers can't even take constructive criticism well! It's humiliating what that site has done to the world of Fanfiction!

Kim... That's just perverted...
MA fanfics are the ones that have to have lemons, no matter what! So I could understand that...
But M fanfics are pretty much just older teen...
The way I see it is like this...
Rated K - Pokemon/Yugioh (3-8, but can be more than that :3)
Rated K+ - Beyblade/Bakugan/The Last Airbender (9-12)
Rated T - Naruto/Bleach/FMA/One Piece (13-17)
Rated M - Gantz/Death Note/Code Geass/Higurashi (18+)
Rated MA - Bible Black/Accelerando/Alice in Sexland (21+)
Got it?

Yeah, but the really perverted fanfics are not allowed as far as I know.
No, they are not. Lemon's are not allowed at all on ff.net. That rule is flagrantly violated all over that site and to my knowledge most readers have no interest reporting them. I think if they get reported they get removed, but I'm not sure, since I haven't written or reported one.

Anything that is reported is removed.

The crazy thing is that the "lemon" is subjective. People get bent out of shape about there being one in a story, or not being one, or that it isn't quite what they expected.
First off, yeppers, it's not allowed on ff.
Secondly, I wrote a steamy one-shot — all steam, no sex — and I couldn't believe how many responses I got saying I should label it T instead of M, so more people could read it. ahem. I wasn't thinking about it having sex/no sex when I set it at M; however I was thinking that I sure as hell didn't want 13yos reading it! And if I set it at T, then that's the youngest audience that might be reading it. And in good conscience, I'd rather have mature audiences reading mature stuff, rather than exposing inappropriate topics to a wider audience just because I need a higher hit count.
I've also gotten quite a few responses on Voice in the Wind asking why is it M when there is no sex. (Yet.) Sometimes people forget language, violence and adult themes are also M-worthy. Again, I'm not writing language and fight scenes for a potentially 13yo audience. Hence the M.

you can also have something vulgar- which there are too many to name
e.g.
this is not thee worst example- but Time Braid by sharperV- had enough to make me feel disappointed about, (and not just because its sakunaruhina fic- i went in reading knowing it would be just to see how he'd work it out). and also wanted to see what a peggysue fic starring sakura would be like :/
the OOCness at times was a dissapointing though

But I do intend to tone it down for my next fic.
For rating, I usually go by the guidelines, which is:
T - Suitable for teens, 13 years and older, with some violence, minor coarse language, and minor suggestive adult themes.
M - Not suitable for children or teens below the age of 16 with possible strong but non-explicit adult themes, references to violence, and strong coarse language.
Excluding the violence side, personally I take a kiss as the boundary between the T rating and the M rating. Anything explicit progressing beyond at least a kiss goes to M rating.

The difference between a good lemon and a bad one is whether the character and story calls for it. A tastefully written encounter that doesn't break the flow of the story (you know, random ooc-ness, or going from holding hands to jumping in the sack) is perfectly fine. But as a reader, you can always tell when the writer has left the tracks and is writing about their own particular fantasies, just played on in Naruto land. (I'm looking at you harem!) Of course, to each his own. This is fan fic after all, and everyone is entitled to their own fantasies. But as a reader, I'm much more likely to stick with a story that has a realistic storyline (tasteful lemon included), than I am with a story that's just a vehicle for some skin.
@madz, I totally agree with your thoughts that kissing is the line between T and M. Anything more than a chaste kiss in the last paragraphs should definitely push the story into an M.
Honestly, I'm more troubled by the sexual doublestandards than anything else. You know, where the male lead gets lots of no-strings-attached experience while the main girl has to remain pure. It's a fairytale model that's wrong on a lot of different levels. But for me, as a chica, it's hard to like a main male who has sowed his wild oats yet doesn't care enough about himself to hold himself to the same standards as the girl is tied to. And for the girl, to settle for that kind of guy, is a real step down. For me, those stories can sometimes be just as hard to read as the over-the-top lemon ones.

I find that stereotypical storytelling to be rather offensive as well... I'm a guy and I've had no sexual experience at all! It's very annoying to have to read those kind of stories...
Also, I actually find it more interesting when the girl has had more experience than the guy, it gives the story a bit of an edge :3

I've never liked this version on Naruto. It stems from the fact that Jiriaya was his master and thus, is expected to behave in the same way. However, we really don't know that much about Jiraya's love life other than that, yes he was a peeping tom who wrote dirty books and, from what I can tell, never got over Tsunade. Sometimes, I wonder if he was more show than substance. The incident prior to Sasuke/Itachi in part 1, suggest he may do it, but there is no real insight into that other than that. If he did, was it because he was just a perv, was he constantly trying and failing to find a replacement for the person he really wanted or something to drown out the fact he couldn't have her?
Naruto is fiercly loyal, particularly to his own beliefs and feelings. He's given plenty of reasons and chances to deviate from them and never does. I don't see him as the type that could sleep around or at least do it and not hate himself for it. Moreover, he doesn't exactly respect this aspect of Jiriaya personality, so I don't see him emulating it.

That is the one version of Naruto that I cant stand D:< it's very OOC for me and the important thing at least in my stories is to keep everyone IC.
