Hinata is going to Sakura’s house to tell her to stay away from Menma, and Ino is following her because she’s worried. However, when they get there they see the rose that Sasuke gave Sakura – and Sakura tells them that she feels absolutely nothing for Menma (she starts out saying Naruto’s name but corrects herself at the last moment). At that point, Hinata asks her if she likes Sasuke – though Ino replies that can’t be possible, since Sakura (likes Menma?). Once she understands Sakura’s feelings, Hinata suddenly turns all supportive and tells her that of course she’ll help her. After they leave, Hinata tells Ino that she’ll organize a group outing so that Sasuke and Sakura can get together, and she and Menma the same. She orders Ino to bring two men with her.
Ino meets up with Chouji and Shikamaru and tells them about Hinata’s plan. Chouji is worried because Sasuke is a playboy, and he has so many girls that he calls them ‘kitten’ in order not to confuse their names. Shikamaru himself doesn’t see the problem, since for him Sasuke is ‘cool and smells good’ (no, I’m not kidding you. I guess the anime staff felt the need to throw that little comment in there to promote the Charasuke Eau de Toilette XD). Ino is very confused, since Sakura usually seems to hate Sasuke and always calls him ‘Charasuke’. Chouji says that this group outing could be a problem, since Sasuke is always making passes at Sakura even at normal times, and with Sakura like this it could lead to anything. Ino says Sakura was acting weird, and she doesn’t want her to be unhappy – so they eventually decide to go to the outing together in the hope of keeping the situation under control.
In the meantime, Hinata meets Naruto and invites him to the ‘party’. Naruto feels uncomfortable, so he tells her that he’s already got an appointment. She asks if it’s with Sakura, and when he says yes Hinata thinks that Sakura must be two-timing her teammates and storms off. Naruto reflects that he doesn’t understand her at all.
Hinata and Sasuke arrive when the others are already at the restaurant. Sasuke sits directly in front of Sakura, and Sakura comments that it all seems like a dream (Ino wonders why she’s turning red). Sasuke whispers to Hinata that she was right, that it really looks like he has a chance today – and Hinata encourages him. Chouji tries to order – but discovers that Sasuke has already ordered everything, and the table is suddenly full of great food. Chouji tries to offer Sakura something himself, but Sasuke always precedes him – and keeps showing off by offering Sakura all the foods that she likes without her having to say anything. Shikamaru notices that Sakura keeps making weird noises like ‘Kyuuun’ every time he does so, especially when Sasuke says that when it comes to her, of course he’ll know what she likes. Ino and Chouji are amazed by his skills with the chopsticks, and by the speed at which he passes the food to Sakura. The only time Chouji manages to speak up, Sakura politely refuses his offer because she doesn’t like spicy things. Hinata tells him that it’s because his serving lacks love – and Chouji falls down, giving up and saying that he simply cannot win. Ino tells him to compose himself, and that this has probably got nothing to do with love. At which point they both notice that Sasuke is using the sharingan to read Sakura’s movements and foretell which food she’ll try to eat.
Chouji decides that they should try to take control of the conversation, and Shikamaru tells them to leave it to him – but then he starts a ridiculous tale about a dog with a white tail, and Ino and Chouji worry that no one will find that interesting at all. And indeed, bored by Shikamaru’s tale, Sasuke tells Sakura that she’s got something in her hair and that he’ll take it off for her – at which point she goes ‘Kyuuun’ again. Desperate, Chouji tries to change topics and asks them what they think of marriage, going on and on about how beautiful it is to find that one important someone – though he trails off at the end and seems to get lost in his own troubled thoughts. Sasuke chuckles and comments that they look just like a Manzai comedy duo, and that they aren’t bad at all. Sakura goes ‘Kyuuun’ again and thinks about how kind Sasuke is acting. Ino notices that Sakura’s eyes have turned into hearts, and Hinata is impressed by Sasuke’s playboy skills. Suddenly, Sasuke tells Sakura that he’s got something to talk to her about, but that he can’t tell her here – so he asks her to leave with him. This worries Chouji and Ino – since they know that once they get out of the restaurant, it’s game over. However, at that moment the restaurant is invaded by a group of Sasuke’s girls – upset about the fact that he ditched them to meet with Sakura and the others. They start crying, and Chouji and Ino are surprised but relieved by their presence – since they think that this should put a stop to Sasuke’s advances. Sakura asks Sasuke if he’d really promised to go on a date with those girls, and he says that he has no recollection of it. The girls are upset at his words – but Sasuke tells them that if he doesn’t remember, then it simply didn’t happen. *cue sharingan sound effect* Sasuke tells the girls that they must have misunderstood him – and they agree with him, thank him for the fun date and say goodbye. Chouji and Ino realize that Sasuke must have put the girls under a genjutsu to make them think that their date was already over. Shikamaru comments that kekkei genkai are really awesome. Sasuke says sorry to Sakura – but she says that it’s alright, and that she’s used to see girls flocking around him all the time. To which he replies that having all those girls flock around him is only an annoyance, since he only has eyes for her. Sakura turns bright red and goes ‘Kyuuun’ again, and Shikamaru comments that this time it was a really huge sound. Chouji is in despair, since has no more ideas on how to stop Sasuke. Sasuke is about to take Sakura outside to ‘talk’, when suddenly Ino uses her jutsu to take control of Hinata, tells Sasuke that she has something to tell him and drags him out of the restaurant. Sasuke tells Sakura that he’ll see her later, at which point Sakura notices Ino’s still figure and wonders if she’s fallen asleep. Chouji chuckles embarrassedly.
Outside of the restaurant, Sasuke tells ‘Hinata’ to let him go and comments that he really doesn’t understand her at all – since she’s being a hindrance to him just as things were getting good. ‘Hinata’ says that it’s exactly because it was going too well – which confuses Sasuke, since he thought that was what she wanted. ‘Hinata’ screams that no, she didn’t wish for this at all – and Sasuke is shocked at her behaviour, since she’s speaking in a cute tone of voice, looking at him with teary eyes, and generally acting similarly to the rare times her tsun self suddenly turns dere. ‘Hinata’ tells him that she will never accept him and Sakura getting together, and Sasuke misunderstand and thinks that this must mean that she likes him. (At this point, Ino leaves Hinata’s body.) Hinata asks Sasuke what he’s doing here, and he answers that it’s because she dragged him outside. Sasuke adds that he’s sorry to never have noticed this before, and Hinata wonders why the hell he’s speaking in such a coaxing tone of voice. Sasuke tells her that he’s surprised she actually likes him, though he should have noticed earlier… given that she put such great efforts in trying to grant his own wish (getting with Sakura?), and yet despite all that her real feelings still couldn’t help coming out. Hinata says that’s not it at all – but Sasuke calls her ‘kitten’, tells her that she doesn’t need to say anything else and adds that she had him completely fooled by always going ‘Menma, Menma’ like that, but that now he’s understood her true feelings. At that point Hinata, exasperated, punches him and screams that he’s got it completely wrong.
In the meantime, Sakura and the others are leaving the restaurant. Ino tells Sakura she’s sorry, but Sakura answers that she doesn’t need to be – and that though Sasuke and Hinata left early, it was still a really fun party. Ino tells Sakura that she doesn’t know what exactly happened to her, but that if she ever has any trouble she can always tell her. Sakura doesn’t understand what Ino means, but she’s still happy. After she leaves, Chouji says that in the end they were somehow able to protect her – and Ino adds that it was all thanks to them. Then she comments that she wants Sakura to be happy, and that Menma would probably suit her better – because he’s kind and his personality is exactly like Minato’s. Chouji comments in an aside that actually, yesterday’s Menma seemed much livelier and stupider than usual.
At the end, Naruto is wandering by himself – wondering why Sakura is late and thinking that he wants to go back to the real world as soon as possible. At that point, he happens to see Sasuke with a gloomy look and calls out to him. When he starts joking around with him, Sasuke tells him that he’s too loud and asks him to leave him alone. After he leaves, Naruto comments that despite everyone being different, Sasuke is really the only one who didn’t change at all.
Looks like the love triangle was switched around a bit? AU Sakura likes Menma while Charasuke Likes Sakura. Not sure about Menma himself.
NaruHina seemed to get the shortest end of the stick here. xD
