Really late reply, but I'm only just now seeing this.
I don't believe NH can be canon either way. Even if they managed to top this moment with something new, it still lacks everything else to make it a pairing.
(Late reply myself, but that what happens when your computer blue screens.)
Then there is no such thing as "Too high" or "hard to top" concerning such a scene.
At best, you would constantly feel the way I do in that "This feel out of place" as you do about 615 now.
Sorry James but every Anime I watch and I watched a lot of amines so believe me when I say that the stundare tends to beat the living hell out of the main guy a lot worst than Sakura.
Sakura is a joke compere to the other girls from other anime since most of the time they beat the boy the same way Karui beat him normally they use a bat, a table, there foot, etc. People just tend to hate on Sakura because she in standing in the way of NH, SN, some like girls with the submissive attitude plus Hinata looks like a bimbo making some fans say things like they prefer Hinata's melon over Sakura's flat chest, plus many guys in the west tends to dislike the girls with attitude while in Japan they don't seems to have a problem with those type a girls.
What we see in Sakura and Naruto behavior is a regular Nippon humor in a less intense way than other stundere girls.
Yeah, I know that Don-Kun. I am not stupid. Love Hina rings a few bells....as does Ruroni Kenshin. Baka and Test. Demon King Daimao. Fruits Basket may even have the opposite effect with the male being a Tsundere type. Trigun may even has it with Vash and Meryll, but no canon pairing came from this. I might even classify Rei in HOTD as this pretty soon. A couple of times, if you remember and if you have payed attention, I have brought up the argument using nearly the same words as you are using now. However, there are a lot of Naruto fans who have never seen any of the other anime.
However, this is also not the point. There are quite a few Naruto fans who don't read the manga at all. More often than you think. They base their whole experience on the anime itself and, you cannot deny this, the anime depicts Sakura more violent and jealous than the manga does. She was even shown to do scenes very similar to how Naru does with Keitaro in Love Hina and getting extremely jealous when Naruto "flirts" with another girl. This has not happened once in the manga itself.
The point is I see fans hate Sakura for things that are just a frail comparison to other more energized Tsunderes. The anime gives this false impression and I can see it in the NH arguments with them calling her "abusive." I have even brought up many arguments, like you are doing now to me, and they still see Sakura as "more abusive." The most abusive has to be Narusegawa from Love Hina and she stills ends up with the main character in the end. Yet I hear no one complain about this one. Why is this? I do have a reasonable idea.
As you mentioned that the west likes submissive girls. That cannot be more untrue when it came to my generation. Every guy around me wanted the girl who was strong and not whiny or stalkerish. They wanted the girl to take charge, but they didn't want the emotional baggage. This is why most tsundere from the late 90s - early 2000s were very acceptable in the way I saw it even when they were more abusive than Tsundere of today. The newer generation seems to have gone back to wanting the submissive girl who is very shy and is always the damsel in distress. I don't know why this is, but all my friends who like anime hate girls like Hinata, but the younger crowd loves her 9 out of 10 times.
I know I am working with a small group here of people around me, but the data I have is consistent with my theory. You also brought that people like her because she has big boobs and a nice figure. Apparently, this new generation also thinks that any women who is gruff or is a tomboy must obviously be a lesbian of some sort. Look at how people treat Lara Croft who has huge boobs, but is seen as a Lesbian because she is doing things that men are doing. We even see this joke being spoofed in media itself. Look at how people see the Peanuts with Peppermint Patty. Some think she is a lesbian too even though she has been shown to have a crush on Charlie Brown.
So this does not just span anime, but our own media as well. I don't see it as what it is, but rather how the generation views it because even the authors themselves find confusion on why people view their work in ways that are not meant to be viewed. Unfortunately the anime does help by enforcing this as well.
So give me some credit Don-kun. You're not the only one with a wide arrange of anime watching under your belt.
