*Backs up a truck full of Haterade* Here ya go. You're gonna need it.
I met and chatted with a few people while I was there. You might have heard of them: Mike DiMartino, Bryan Konietzo, Joaquim DosSantos, Ki-Hyun Ryu, Bobby Rubio, and the awesome Johane Matte (rufftooon). They all signed my copy of "Avatar, Art of the Animated Series."

did you smell rufftoon? jw. I bet she smells like cinnamon and baked green apples~ and Aaron Ehasz wasn't there? Or his wife? I wanna meet those two so bad. Such awesome writers. speaking of, what do all those other people do? I don't recognize the names Ryu and Rubio.

Rufftoon smelled of cinnamon, lemonade and fresh summer days. She was the highlight of Comic Con for me.
I don't think Aaron was there. Hopefully next year!
Ryu was the main character designer (he was at the main signing), and Rubio was a storyboard artist. Rufftoon told me to get it signed by Rubio.

ANDREA ROMANO: I don't know how much of the series I'm allowed to tell you, but that whole generation has died. It's the next generation. So it's really cool. It's the same producers. It's the same brilliant attention to detail and I'm very excited. Right now we are just making twelve of them and we'll see what happens.
I'm guessing this is just a bad slip of the tongue. There is no reason for the rest of the gaang to be dead. Aang used up his extra avatar time and passed on, but the other characters should only be around 70 or 80 years old. There is no reason for them to die early.
Plus, people higher on the Korra production ladder haven't said this much about the fates of the other characters.

There's also something about referencing the sort of feeling of the roaring 20's because it's sort of around that period I guess.
It sort of sounds like it's going to be around the industrial revolution.
Right, and so it's like, how do you use the Roaring Twenties with an Asian feel? It'll be an interesting challenge. That's one of the ideas that have been thrown on the table. Who knows what will actually happen in the end, but it was one of things that Bryan mentioned and seemed like an interesting idea. It's not like these traditional instruments will be abandoned but I'm sure the instrumentation will be different.
It will be great to see the music evolve with the rest of the Avatar universe.

omg I wish you had bottled her scent; cinnamon lemonade on a fresh summer day is a godly combination. SHE IS THE HIGHLIGHT OF YOUR LIFE. or mine, or yours. or both of ours. whichever

aw! Well hopefully, Aaron and his wife added the grit I loved into the mix. Also they helped with the boy!Toph -> girl!Toph conversion. HALLELUJAH
and AH I SEE. wow, sweet! gotta hand it to Ryu for the designs then. And Rubio did work with Rufftoon, he's by default cool.
and yeah I hope it was a slip of the tongue. Toph would be 87, which would make Katara and Azula 89, Sokka, Suki, Ty Lee 90 (I think), Zuko and Mai 91. No reason for them to kick the bucket well into their wrinkle years, at least not Toph. TOPHS IMMORTAL*
and can't wait to hear the music. The music in Avatar was always gorgeous. You know, I hope they do a cyper-punk genre after Korra. I know I'm getting ahead of myself, but unf would I love it to pieces

And I too dont think theres a need for the cast to be dead at all. Think of King Bumi that old fart had to be pushing into his 110s and going strong. Avatar Kyoshi was said to have lived well over 200 years old the oldest and longest living avatar if I recall correctly.
it would be easy for the entire Gaang to be alive and kicking with the obvious exception of Aang.
The key would be to use them sparingly as annecdotal story telling elements. ways for the new avatar to learn from Aangs past mistakes with out always falling on the speak to my past lives idea. It would be a way for her to learn about the Avatar from anothers perspective and how the avatar affects the world.

Nickelodeon is currently staffing up for production,[3][4] adding that Avatar: The Last Airbender co-creators Michael Dante DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko are involved and that more information will be forthcoming at a later date, possibly Comic-Con International 2011.[5] On July 21, the Associated Press confirmed the series for a 2011 release.

I don't know, but it wouldn't surprise me considering the fact that it's similar to how the first series was supposed to go. Newer rumor I ran across is a slight title change from Legend of Korra to Journey of Korra.
Found this funny picture I thought I'd share:
